Just found out that we will be able to attend the Mini,,,,,for  an hour or so anyway!  Graduation and Birthday party is planned for 4:00 and they are only about a 30 min trip away from the Mini.  Look for us to come.  Great news about Jack.  Hope he really does make it.

Just wanted to say thank you to those who sent messages of sympathy to us on the death of Sammy Smith. There will forever be a hole in our hearts in his passing. I never knew a kinder person. We miss him so very much. Can't believe I'll never again hear him say "Let's go to the beach!" Continue to pray for Sarah. She is STRONG. She had to be. We were looking forward to going to the mini with her & Sammy. Rest in peace Sammy. Love you forever. ROAD TRIP!!!! 😥😥💙💙

I called Jack Sanders yesterday to see if he & his dtr had discussed coming to the Mini.  He couldn't remember if they did.  Asked him to talk to her and call with any questions.  He called me this morning & said they were coming!  Great!  Jack can't remember names and he's very nervous about coming but I told him not to worry as he is among friends and it doesn't matter whether he can remember our name or not.  So be sure to tell him your name first so he can adjust.

Oh, this will make you smile.  Yesterday he said all of a sudden he remembered someone and was wondering if they were coming.  The one name he remembers . . .  Bovie!  Of course, Bovie is kind of unforgettable. [wink]  I'm going to call and tell Bovie.  I hope being around old friends will help Jack's memory.

Sandy - Like you, I’m trying to be positive in the face of really bad stuff. I am trusting that our mini will be a light. 💕

My hotel reservation has been made. Anyone else planning to stay at the hotel?

Love you all - 😘.

Spring is here & all of a sudden the high temps here in TX are upon us.  Forecasting upper 90s and maybe 100 tomorrow here in Dallas area.  And this heat is here all week!

I'm trying to think good thoughts despite all that's going on in the world.  Looking forward to our Mini on May 21 and also our family reunion on my mother's side in June.  First time in 2 years for both get-togethers!  Enjoy your family gatherings tomorrow!  Hope to see lots of you on May21st!!

Comments:
I've been talking with Gordy today, Sunday, 5-1.  He sounded good.  Will be in the rehab facility thru this week and next. On Monday or Tuesday 5-9 or 5-10, he will see the surgeon and hopefully remove all the staples.  Then a few days to make sure the long incision doesn't open up.

A big problem is a wound on his heel caused by the leg brace he had been wearing for quite a while.  They're trying to heal it.  Needs to heal before he goes home.  Gordy said thank you for the prayers and the cards he received.  He really appreciated it!  Again his rehab address is: Villages of Lake Highland,  8615 Lullwhater Dr., Dallas  75238.

It's nice to read the heart-warming comments from others who have known Sammy since the very early years at Lisbon.  Mario, you gave many wonderful personal reasons why we all loved him so much. The one word I haven't seen used is "gracious".  He was always gracious to everyone and appreciative when anything was done for him.  Hope everyone is now realizing we can't count on tomorrow, take advantage of today.

Reading the news about Sammy this morning made me very sad to know that my dear friend Sammy, who always had a way of bringing a smile to your face (no matter how things were going that day for him).  I first met Sammy in the first grade at Lisbon Elementary when we moved to Oak Cliff in 1954, I was a new student having transferred there from City Park Elementary School in North Dallas, not far from Downtown, and I felt a bit out of place at first, but thanks to meeting Sammy, along with other friends he had already made, I felt a lot happier and less worried at my new school.  He had a way of drawing you to him...his smile, his kindness. Nothing seemed to ever bother him, he was the best friend you could ever have, I'm proud to have had him for a dear friend ever since then.
We went our separate ways after those interesting years at Lisbon, but I know that at Zumwalt, and then afterwards at SOC, Sammy would have continued making lots of friends, if you knew him, you couldn't help but love him. All of our thoughts and prayers are for his family and his wife Sarah, who we fortunately later on got to meet, and enjoy both of their friendship and company at all our SOC minis, and Class Reunions.

I too have known Sammy since our days at Lisbon. I am heartbroken he is gone. Sammy was a good person and good friend. I never heard Sammy complain or say a bad word about anyone. I always admired him. The world is not as happy or as good a place without him. Love and prayers for Sarah and family.

I want to reiterate what Gary D said, many of us have known Sammy (and yes,I still call him Sammy) since grade school at Lisbon.  He & Sarah were always at the Minis and the reunions.  It's loosing a longtime friendship that really hurts and that deep sense of loss will linger in my heart for a long long time.  RIP my friend, you were loved and you are missed so much.

Sandy, we were very sorry to hear about Sammie, he was a sweet and precious soul.  Just letting you know, I deactivated my Facebook account last week, due to health issues (dementia is worsening, having difficulties with words and sentences, losing my way more than usual now).  Text me on my phone if you ever want to stay in touch.  903-821-2522.  Always, Tanya
