Place: Richardson Comments: It's nice to read the heart-warming comments from others who have known Sammy since the very early years at Lisbon. Mario, you gave many wonderful personal reasons why we all loved him so much. The one word I haven't seen used is "gracious". He was always gracious to everyone and appreciative when anything was done for him. Hope everyone is now realizing we can't count on tomorrow, take advantage of today.
Place: Mckinney, Texas Comments: Reading the news about Sammy this morning made me very sad to know that my dear friend Sammy, who always had a way of bringing a smile to your face (no matter how things were going that day for him). I first met Sammy in the first grade at Lisbon Elementary when we moved to Oak Cliff in 1954, I was a new student having transferred there from City Park Elementary School in North Dallas, not far from Downtown, and I felt a bit out of place at first, but thanks to meeting Sammy, along with other friends he had already made, I felt a lot happier and less worried at my new school. He had a way of drawing you to him...his smile, his kindness. Nothing seemed to ever bother him, he was the best friend you could ever have, I'm proud to have had him for a dear friend ever since then. We went our separate ways after those interesting years at Lisbon, but I know that at Zumwalt, and then afterwards at SOC, Sammy would have continued making lots of friends, if you knew him, you couldn't help but love him. All of our thoughts and prayers are for his family and his wife Sarah, who we fortunately later on got to meet, and enjoy both of their friendship and company at all our SOC minis, and Class Reunions.
Place: Sachse Comments: I too have known Sammy since our days at Lisbon. I am heartbroken he is gone. Sammy was a good person and good friend. I never heard Sammy complain or say a bad word about anyone. I always admired him. The world is not as happy or as good a place without him. Love and prayers for Sarah and family.

Place: Richardson Comments: I want to reiterate what Gary D said, many of us have known Sammy (and yes,I still call him Sammy) since grade school at Lisbon. He & Sarah were always at the Minis and the reunions. It's loosing a longtime friendship that really hurts and that deep sense of loss will linger in my heart for a long long time. RIP my friend, you were loved and you are missed so much.
