Place: 66erville Comments: THANK YOU Professor Smiley! I greatly resisted algebra back at SOC. I could not grasp what an unknown would be doing in the constant world of math. My inquisitor, Ms Bryant, yelled, threatened, tormented, shamed, tortured me and wrote notes to my parents saying "I wasn't trying". She understood the subject so well she could not understand what I didn't understand. It was as if we were speaking a foreign language. Just I thought all was lost and I would fail a class, my brother by a different Mother, Jerry Tillery conqueror of all things mathematical, rode to my rescue and showed me the way. I passed much to Ms. Bryant and MY surprise! But even back then I KNEW there was something wrong with that way of thinking!!

Place: Echo, Texas Comments: I just read where a teacher I worked with was arrested at DFW airport today as he attempted to board a flight while in possession of a ruler, a protractor, a compass, a slide rule and a calculator. Attorney General Eric Holder said he believes the man is a member of the notorious Al-Gebra movement. He did not identify my friend by name but said he has been charged by the FBI with carrying weapons of math instruction. Al-gebra is a problem for us, the Attorney General said. "They derive solutions by means and extremes, and sometimes go off on tangents in search of absolute values. They use secret code names like " X" and "Y" and refer to themselves as unknowns. We have determined that they belong to a common denominator of the Axis of the medieval with coordinates in many countries. As the Greek philosopher Isosceles once said "there are three sides to every triangle." When asked to comment on the arrest, President Obama said " If Allah had wanted us to have better weapons of math instruction, he would have given us more fingers and toes." It is believed that another Nobel Prize will follow.
Place: Richardson Comments: Shortcake - I'm so sorry about the attack on your niece. Plse keep us posted on her recovery. How awful for the parents.
Place: Hog heaven Comments: Yep, it was two-thirds of a pun......PU
Place: Calif. Comments: Smiley, I thought I stole that one from you. It has your name all over it.
Place: Cypress springs Comments: Hey guys...my 16 month old niece was attacked by a Doberman yesterday at her babysitters house. The dog bit her on both sides of her head by her eyes. They are thinking there may be some nerve damage on one side. The owner of the dog has told my nephew that he can shoot the dog if he wants....but that the dog is going to be put down. They have a 2 yr old and since they cannot figure out what made the dog turn they are not taking any chances. Course it would have been better not to leave a dog that size around small children alone to start with! Anyway would appreciate you keeping Gracie in your prayers. Her daddy is a marine and has just gotten back from his third tour in Afghanistan. It is going to be a tough Christmas getting her through this.
Place: Richardson Comments: Rick - They say when you retire that everything slows down. I think your last post speaks for itself!!

Place: SOC 65 Comments: SNL did you know Larry Hagman's mom was "Mary Martin", she played Peter Pan for years and years, a very talented actress in her day too.
Place: Richardson Comments: Cakeball pan!!!?? Geeeezz! No, I made each little CB by rolling the dough between by hands & hand dipping them with a toothpick into the melted choc. Ea batch made approx 50 CBs. Had a great Thanksgiving Day at my brothers house & then everyone came over to our house on Fri. We had beef stew & cornbread with leftover desserts, plus a fresh peach cobbler. Hope everybody has a safe and wonderful 4-day Thaksgiving holiday, 1 more day left! I was so sad last night when I heard Larry Hagman passed away Fri. He was such a good actor and also very gererous with his time and money here in Dls. He gave to lots of the schools Arts Programs & handed out some of the awards. Most of the kids talking with him had no idea who he was. JR was before their time! I rarely missed a Fri night episode of Dallas. Who amoung us can forget the summer of "Who shot JR?" He was such a good actor, the phrase most used to describe him was, "the man we most loved to hate!". He will be missed!
