Place: DeSoto Comments: BTW - the time is 11:30 am on 4/27. Your event on the 13th sounds like Sandy has done her usual hard work of love for your next get together. Hope you have many in attendance.
Place: DeSoto Comments: Please join other SOCites for a luncheon April 27 at 11:30 am at El Fenix located at 6811 W NW Hwy Dallas. It is just west of North Park on the north side of the street. It would be wonderful to see many of you. I need to ask that you please try to let me know if you are attending by 4/25 so I can give the restaurant a head count for set up. My email is cahuse@sbcglobal.net.
Place: Richardson Comments: Jack, believe it or not . . . we weren't kicked out & no restraining orders were issued! The first two times we were at the Hyatt it was good. Then they rearranged the bar area and moved all the nice big chairs in the sitting area & replaced them with tables! The sitting area was reduced to that little area we were all squashed into last time. I felt like a sardine! The DT decided they would not open the bar for us at 2:00, so I told them we would not be using their bar. As luck would have it, the chef & mgr over the bar & restaurant at the HI is someone I knew from previous SOC events. He is so nice & very accommodating. I do think you will like the HI & the bar area. It has a very warm & inviting feeling to it. So, behave and don't screw this up by getting us thrown out.
Place: 66erville Comments: Sounds like a plan, SNL. Put down two more for the buffet. Did the Hyatt tell you what we did to get kicked out?? Thanks for the article, Richard!
Place: Richardson Comments: Wow Richard, that was an interesting article. Thanks for the link. Brought back memories, some good... some bad.
Place: Calif. Comments: Hey, some of you vets may want to read this. I met Tony Lam in Little Saigon and you can spot his name all over the place. An interesting article as Friday is the 40th anniversary of leaving Vietnam. http://news.yahoo.com/40-years-vietnam-troop-withdrawal-remembered-172252613.html Times change.
Place: FW Comments: Sandy, the Holiday Inn Mini/Dinner Buffet sounds like a good plan. I'm in! See you then.
Place: Richardson Comments: Goes to show Richard . . . you guys never really listen. You just hear what you want to hear! ![]() Thank you Sammy, Cathy & KRL for your quick & positive response. I just know you all will like this bar area & we will have it & the adjoining small restaurant all to ourselves! I think eating there will be fun & it will keep us from wasting travel time somewhere else. I hope i hear fro more of you one way or the other so I can firm up whether or not we want to have the buffet.
Place: Cypress springs Comments: 13th sounds ok to me and eating at the hotel is fine.
Place: Paradise Comments: Congratulations Ricky & Marilyn on 45 years. Sounds like you two had a great celebration. Fred and I celebrated our 43rd on March 26. We had a wonderful time also. It's hard to belive it's been that long. I guess it's true what they say "Time fly's when your having FUN"! Sandy we plan on being there the 13th and eating there sounds good to us. Thank You for all you do.
Place: Calif. Comments: Hey Smiley, today's the 15 birthday of Viagra and the Bob Dole commercials he started; a bit awkward for the times. When asked why he signed up for it, he said with his old age and failing hearing he thought they said the pill would help with his next big "election".
Place: Coppell Comments: Sorry Sandy. The 13th is the annual Farmer(Sarah's side) reunion. We will try to make the dinner with the group though. Yes to the dinner the hotel.
Place: Richardson Comments: Finally, I was able to secure a good place for us to have our next Mini Get-Together! Due to changes at the DT & Hyatt, they weren't viable options. I checked out the Holiday Inn, just 1 block S. of the Double Tree. To my surprise, it was warm, welcoming and a really nice place. It is a good size for us with a very nice bar area. They were willing to open the bar at 2:00pm and they have no other parties for that day/night. When I told him we normally have 35 to 40 btwn 2 - 6 & then some of us usually go to El Fenix to eat, he made me an offer. Sooo, I'm asking you if you are interesting in having a small buffet just for us set up right there for $10pp plus tax & a tip? The bar ajoins the small restaurant (which is closed on Saturdays) & he will have a buffet of cheese enchiladas, fajitas w/all the trimmings, a salad bar and dessert. It also includes a drink (non-alcoholic) or you can just sit down with your drink in hand as the whole place will be ours! For those of you who don't normally go with us to eat, you can still leave or you may want to stay since it is in-house. Please read thru this & let me know if you wd like to stay & have a pvt buffet for dinner. Personally, I belielve it wd be a good deal. Last time we were so crammed in at El Fenix we couldn't move & talking was impossible. This way we wdn't have to pile in our cars and drive elsewhere & we could continue to sit around and talk while we eat dinner. Please respond with either a YES, I wd be interested, or NO, I would rather go to El Fenix. SOC '66 & Friends Mini Get-Together Saturday, April 13, 2013 2:00 to 6:00pm Holiday Inn - Richardson, TX - Bar area The HI is one short block down the acces road from the Double Tree, which is @ the SW corner of Campbell & Hwy 75. Go south on the access rd past the DT one short block to the Green roof of the HI.
