Place: Richardson Comments: My God, a few hrs ago what they think was an F4 tornado just cut a swath thru Moore Ok & across I35!!!! That's exactly where we were yesterday when we got into that heavy rain & hail. It hit as we were passing by Moore & quit when we got to Norman. There is nothing left of Moore Ok today, looks like a bomb hit the town. I35 shut down as cars are piled up all over it. There is nothing left standing. Please pray for the people in Moore OK. I remember Moore so well bec the big water tower said "Home of Toby Keith".
Place: Richardson Comments: Yes I was Susan & I guess now is as good a time as any to tell my crazy, yet memorable Sunday in Okcy watching my nephew, John, graduate from Ok City University Law Sch. We knew they were predicting bad storms for Okcy B4 we left but we weren't gng to let tornado warnings keep us from this wonderful event. Even the fact that I'm still sick as a dog with this full blown sinus crap & can hardly breath, coughing & having to blow my nose abt every 10 minutes! The ceremony started at 2:00 & was really neat. It was held in the Okcy Civic Center Music Hall dwntwn. It started off with abt 10 Bag Pipers walking in & standing dwn front in full Scottish dress. They began playing as the grads marched in. They left once everyone was seated. Nice ceremony & more personal than the big TX Tech & A&M ceremonies we've gone to. Only abt 98 grads plus the faculty. After everything was done the Dean took the podium again & told us the Bag Pipers wd play the grads out & they shd march on out to the front doors & hve their class photo taken. Then she paused a few moments and very calmly said these words in a matter-of-fact way: "I've just been told the tornado sirens are going off. I've also been told this bldg is very safe & we are in the safest part of the bldg & we shd all stay right here until the threat passes, therefore, the Bag Pipers will entertain us with some songs while we wait." I kid you not!!! After about 7-8 min they stopped & she announced the tornado had moved on & we wd proceed with the grads marching out & having their grp photo taken on the front steps! As soon as the pic was taken we found John & headed to our two cars. It was sprinkling & big rolling black clouds. We immediately drove to a restaurant dwntwn & the sirens kept going off all the way. But I'm telling you, no one was taking cover & the streets were full of people. As soon as we got in & seated we noticed all 6 big screen TVs were on the weather channel. They were showing the big blk tornado-looking clouds & dipping funnels. While eating the darn sirens kept gng off & we saw the tornado hitting the twns of Edmonds & Shawnee. Geeez! It rained very hard while we were eating & then it stopped and got totally still. Scary. The TV showed storm was moving east and away frm Okcy. We all decided to hit the road & go home!! My bro & his wife & son had to go back to John's apt & get last minute stuff bec he was leaving his apt & they had it all loaded up in the Uhaul. Don & I hit I 35 south & they sd they'd be behind us within an hour. Their was the biggest blackest wall of clouds to the NE but seemed good on I35. We got just outside Okcy & suddenly the rain hit, it got dark & it hailed on us!! We tried stopping underneath the bridge but too many already there & we were more afraid of being hit than of the hail. We drove slowly in the blinding rain & hail until we got to Norman, Ok & it stopped! It was not large hail but it was being driven by a strong wind. Oh, & as we drove through Moore & then Norman the damn sirens were going off!!! When we got in last night we looked at Don's Edge but we couldn't see any hail dents. If it is not covered in dents when we look in the sunlight, it will truly be a miracle. The amusing thing abt this story . . . John was not bothered one bit with all that was going on. He said not to worry as it does this all the time!! Truly, the people on the streets & playing in all the parks didn't even seem to notice the sirens! I will always remember John's graduation bec of all the sirens that were going off all afternoon, not only in Okcy but in the two towns along I35 as we drove thru. We were saddened to hear that 2 people were killed by that tornado when it touched down in Shanee, Ok & it wiped out many homes. Sorry this is so long, but it was really a very memorable day!

Place: 66ervolle Comments: SNL, Gordy didn't tell me what time dinner was on Memorial Day. Is he serving at 4:00 ?
Place: Cypress springs Comments: Brooklyn probably figures she has to do something to make herself known since there is just one of her! Hey guys ....thanks for the offer of the bubble wrap...I like that! Ribs are still sore when I sneeze or laugh too hard....I think that includes snorting!
Place: Richardson Comments: TNX for the sweet comments about Brooklyn! I don't usually brag about my G-kids, but she is just so cute!! She is so different than the any of the triplets. She has that Shirley Temple curly hair & loves to have her picture taken! I have to force the boys to have their pic taken & then they make faces! ![]() As far as who is the undisputed living King of Country . . . George Strait!! Dale, Boy Who??
Place: 66erville Comments: You did say "living, country and western" singer, didn't you? Smiley, I know you are a VERY broad minded person, but I'm not sure Boy George fits in any part of that. I am sure you can/will enlighten me.
Place: Grosvenor Comments: Jack, The challenge says "living" so I guess you mean George Strait, but not knowing your preferences I guess you could mean Boy George?
Place: 66erville Comments: Silly Discussion! King George, of couse
Place: NYC Comments: Sandy, Brooklyn is really cute!!
Place: New York City Comments: Does Robert Earl Keene count? His stories are great!! And the music is good also. |
