O.K. I saw on Good Morning America where movie theaters will be having a special section of seats for Lover Dovers. It is for couples who want a bit more "privacy" while watching the movie.

Heck, shades of 1950's. We sat in the balconies at Lisbon and Cedar Crest theaters.

Dale, is that the story where he was kissing her on the strikes??
Did you see or hear about the night Mrs. Arnie Palmer was on Johnny Carson?  Carson asked her if she did anything to help Arnie play better before tournments. Her answer rocked the house and Carson's reply was classic.

Dizzy Dean kept saying "ain't"on the air. Evidently this offended English teachers . They claim he was not a good roll model and kids were picking it up and saying it in school.
CBS claimed this wasn't the reason why he was let go.

TNX Susan.  I had seen on FB that Joe has cancer & was undergoing Chemo.  Hate to hear this bad news of him having a stroke.  He will be in my prayers.

Janie Gann just posted on Facebook that Joe LeGrand has cancer and that his doctors think he has had a stroke and is in bad condition.  His daughter texted this info to Janie.  She is asking for prayers for Joe.

Sam,
I seem to remember that Dizzy was fired over his comments regarding a couple sitting behind 3rd base.  Do you remeber what he said?

BTW gang, No one ever slud into first base when Jack was first baseman at Lisbon Elementary summer softball team. Jack guarded the base on the batters side when I and Steve Cargill threw the runners out. Then of course Speedy Harrison, our catcher never slid into first as well since by the time the opposing team threw the ball, he was half way to second.
What a great memory of the summer of 1960.

Smiley is right. There is no rule stating you cannot slide into first . It is not advisable as more injuries are caused than success in beating the throw.
I also remember the Dizzy Dean baseball quotes. Runners slud into bases, players also throwed the baseball and base stealers stole them bases.
I seem to remember a group of educators were instrumental in Dizzy losing his job as a sports announcer.
Dale, you remember the same?

Jack,
Your inquiry about sliding into first sent my mind reeling back to the good ol days when  Dizzy Dean and Pee-Wee Reese used to explain the game to us. I remember once:  Dizzy:  Hey, Pee-Wee did you see that? He slud into first base!' Gimmie some of those goobers. Now, it's time for a commercial from those "Sky Blue Waters".

Oh, it is legal to slide into first base but you do not see it much cause it would slow you down.

Er, Rick, it has been a while since I played (or even thought about it) but I think it is considered bad form to slide into first base. I think it may even be illegal. I'll refer that to the rules committee. What's the ruling, Sam??

Toni, I played softball Monday, and I feel like I was in that car with Bruce
I have a sprained ankle and a banged up knee from sliding into first base.
