Place: The Woodlands, TX Comments: SNL, thank you for the nice comments about seeking lost rings for others. It is a kick to have a successful hunt (which only happens about 25% of the time in my case). One small correction, I don't think Bob Forston has any records for running marathons. You may have meant "Larry Macon" of my class of '63? In 2013 he blew away his own Guiness Record by completing 255 full marathons last year! That's insane! Running 4 or 5 marathons each week. Larry reports that the hard part is juggling the scheduling, flying from town to town or state to state, and the expense of air fare, entrance fees, hotels, car rental etc. The logistics become complicated. http://www.woai.com/articles/woai-local-news-119078/local-attorney-macon-makes-run-for-11937132/ He almost inspired me to buy a pair of running shoes, but I've decided to stick with my metal detecting obsession instead.
Place: Silly mistakesville Comments: Sorry Ronney, I don't know where that d came from.
Place: 66erville Comments: Thanks, Rodney. They are growing up fast. Youngest just turned two and the oldest, Holden's older sister, is a Soph.. in college, plus two 13 yrs old and a nine yr old. Always good to hear from Sally. Glad to know you are not frozen. Rick, looks like Charles and Sam decided to wait until the April mini to celebrate. Hope y'all will be coming to that. Did you get around the problem with the radio?
Place: bigD Comments: Good morning everyone. I'm just checking in to see what's going on. Hello Sally, it's good to hear from you. Jack I will attend the get together if I can .
Place: NYC Comments: We appreciate all you do for us, Sandy--especially those of us not in the Dallas vicinity and away from Texas. And, especially since I don't have the energy for Facebook, this is where I look for news and information about our class and others. I love hearing about everyone. I hope you are all well and enjoying spring. We have not really had more than a tease. Saturday was warm enough for just a jacket but now we are back to cold. Yesterday started in the teens but. . Not complaining compared to Chicago! At least the crocuses have shown their yellow heads and might even be blooming today! We can hope, at least!!
Place: Allen, TX Comments: Good Lookin' grandones, Hawkins!! They grow up too fast.
Place: Beautiful in Richardson Comments: Sally - You are very welcome! I recvd your card and donation ck this afternoon. When I see the NY NY return address, I know it is a card from you! Thank you for your donation!
Place: Sunny Richardson Comments: Happy St. Patrick's Day to one and all!! My Dad passed away 5 yrs ago today. Kind of ironic since he was Irish . . . and he loved his beer!!!
Place: Coppell Comments: My dad did metal detecting as a hobby for 10 years. I remember him saying how elated a lot of people were when he found their wedding bands and engagement rings. My brothers and I inherited a lot of coins he found. I have over 2,000 wheat grain pennies, but most of all a lot of fond memories of dad's stories he told me.
Place: Richardson Comments: John & Annette, thanks for posting the link about Bob Forston! I read about him on FB and the '63 site regarding his marathon accomplishments. I believe he is in the Guiness Book of Records! And now on the Houston News. Annette, you must be so proud and heck, so am I . . . He's a SOCITE!! JS - I think what you, Bob and others do to help people find their lost treasures is so great. I can't imagine how happy you have made a few total strangers. Congrats to you, Bob and the other metal detecting nuts who have brought smiles to so many faces!!
Place: The Woodlands Comments: Oopsie is my FAT finger on the iPhone keys Southie! You are correct Bob is a 1960 model!
Place: The Woodlands, TX Comments: Oops, I stand corrected on Bob Forston. According to the dusty archives of the Dallas Morning News one Robert S. Forston graduated from SOC on June 2, 1960. I was trying to make him a year too old. He is well known in North Texas metal detecting circles, having found lots of cool stuff.
Place: The Woodlands Comments: http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2014/03/14/online-treasure-hunters-find-lost-college-ring/ My brother Bob, SOC Grad Class of 62 was featured on the CBS local news the other night for his volunteer work. Maybe some of you have met him.
Place: The Woodlands, TX Comments: Annette's big brother does good! A few of you know that I piddle around with a metal detector. Today I got a notice that a fellow "detectorist" got recognized for doing a good deed. Bob Forston is 4 yrs. ahead of me (maybe SOC '59?). Here is a link to Bob's tale which helps improve the public image of our hobby: http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2014/03/14/online-treasure-hunters-find-lost-college-ring/ Mercenary that I am, I'd of held out for a big reward (maybe).
Place: Richardson Comments: I'm not sure if I've said it or not, but the date I'm trying to lock in for our Mini is Saturday, April 26th. As to "where" it will be held . . . that's still in limbo. So go ahead and mark your calendar and make your arrangements for 4-26!! Spring Mini Get-Together - Saturday, April 26, 2014 Time: 2:00 to 6:00pm Place: TBD |
