I hate to post this.  Quite unexpectedly Mary Ann died on Thursday.  I met her 40 years ago this month and was married to her over 38 of those years.  I can't express how much I miss her, and will forever, or the level of sad I'm feeling.  All of you who met her treated her as a fellow classmate, and I appreciate that.

I will definitely pass along everyone's well wishes to the family.
Trust me John, we talked often about SOCites....you included. Although she did not see you I can assure all of you that all of her students held a very special place in her heart. She was a great teacher and she became a great friend to me. I will most definitely miss her laugh and her stories. It is going to be lonely here at the lake.

Sad to hear about the passing of Peggy Hess. French Class , front row seat, might have asked for help a few times. Beautiful Lady, she loved to poke fun at my attempt to speak that stupid language.
I only took the class to look at her and Happy Jack Hawkins told me girls like to have French whispered in their ears.
Karen, pass along our thoughts to her family.
Hope everyone is doing well.
Sandy

My Peggy Hess story:

I took sophomore English with Miss Hess and we did a study block on "Greek Mythology". Afterwards she gave us an assignment to write our own Greek Myth. In the class were my pals Larry Pool and Charles Woodard. My hapless friends became the inspiration for "The Legend of Southestes".

The details of my myth escape me at this point but I do recall that Southestes was a great god who was served by two lesser gods ... the near-sighted "Poolia" and his dimwit henchman "Woodus". Somewhere in the tale Southestes shot an arrow through the darkness to slay a troublesome dragon and save the kingdom.

Miss Hess got a kick out of the satirical myth. Gave me an "A", then got me out of class to read my tale to two of her other classes. I enjoyed the brief moment in her limelight and most likely that class is where my particular style of "observation & comment" was launched. Thank you for the encouragement, dear Miss Hess.

Actually both...he graduated from SOC before us then later came back as a teacher. That was when he and Peg became friends.

I was saddended to hear of the passing of Ms. Hess.  Karen, I'm glad that you became friends with her, and I know that you will miss her.

It has been mentioned that her husband was associated with SOC.  Was he a teacher - an administrator - ?  I can't put a face with the name.

Take care, everyone.

Karen,

I know how hard this is on you and Bobby to lose such a good friend.  It is going to be so hard on her husband because they were so close.  You and Bobby will be a great support to him.  Thinking about you!!!!!

Sorry ...you asked about a service.... Peg wanted graveside services with her immediate family and a few of her close friends there. We had the services last Monday. Their pastor was there and Bob wrote a letter to her.
This week has been extremely hard on Bobby and myself. We Said goodbye to Peg and then today said goodbye to a firefighter friend that passed away this week. He had two brain tumors and had been sick for about 6 months so it was not totally unexpected. But still rough.

There will not be an obit. I will answer any question you have to the best of my ability for the last 20 years....of course nothing really personnel. But you would not ask that anyway.
I can tell you this...Peg had a stroke the first of Oct. We thought she was going to be good. Only in the hospital for a few days and then yo rehab. But then she got pneumonia. They induced a coma to let the drugs work but still let her breath on her own daily. On Thursday they were going to take her off the resperitator the next Monday and out of cardiac ICU. Everything looked good still. On Monday when they did the ct they found she had had a massive stroke on the right side that destroyed about 50% of her brain. Had she gotten out of the hospital she would not hear, speak, see, eat walk or move. They finally told us that on around Thursday or Friday. Three nurologists checked. And said there were no feelings or reactions.
She is survived by her husband Bob Hughes and by her brother Dr Charles Hess. She was an amazing person and artist. She painted religious paintings that could rival any great artist. They are absolutely beautiful. She loved antiques. She and Bob loved going to antique shows or just going for rides. You would never see one without the other. I think one of the greatest testimonies of their love was when he told me that if he was running errands he would want to get back home because that is where she was. We will still go to dinners around here ....we just will not have that wonderful laugh that told us Peg was here.... And I am going to miss my chocolate candy at Christmas!!!

Based on my handy dandy rain gage provided by the City we got 1 and a half inches of rain since yesterday evening.  Wished it was more but, with water so scarce, I'll take anything that falls!!  We're now back to being able to water once every other week.  Hope it's a wet winter.

BTW - If you haven't seen the adorable little Paw Patrol on P&J pg, please look.  It will make you smile!!!!  Enjoy the cool weather . . .

Hey Ronney - Happy B-day yesterday!!! Hope it was0 a good one!!!

Yes, it made me very sad to think about the beautiful and vibrant Ms. Hess passing away.  I tried to send her an invite to our 40th & 45th reunions but Shortcake said she was not interested in going to any of the class reunions and would not allow Karen to give out her address.  So, as KRL suggested, I mailed an invite to Ms. Hess c/o of KRL and she gave it to her.  They are neighbors of Ms. Hess Hughes and her husband Bob Hughes.  Thank you so much for the info Shortcake!!  Now for the sad part . . .  putting her name on the deceased list.  [frown]

Sad to hear of the passing of Peggy Hess.  I always remember her beautiful smile and elegant style.  She looked like she stepped off a high fashion runway, and turned heads wherever she went.  I remember her as far too classy for the hallways of SOC. My condolences to her loved ones.
