Place: soaked McKinney Comments: A sincere thank you to those that served our country. I have a Vietnam Veterans Memorial of Rocke D. Ramsey sent to me years ago. He died in hostile action in Quang Nam on Aug.22, 1967. I look at this and remember running pass drills behind him, he was a wonderful guy, always smiling, and a guy I looked up to. So many of these guys did not have the opportunity to enjoy the lives we have had. Enjoy your Holiday, hug the grandkids, pet a dog, and we will see you this fall. Sandy

Place: Der Grosvenor Comments: Jack, It has rained nearly every day for a month but we were so much in the middle of a drought that all 7 of our small tanks have just now filled and are running around the dams. This is no big deal cause they are shallow water ponds (3-6 ft deep) and flow into creeks. Our bigger pond is about 5 acres and is now about 28-30 foot deep and is right up to the spillway. It went completely bone dry in 2011.We have restocked it 3 times with fish. We just got a slow steady rain on Sat. and a small shower Sun. morning. Lots of grass for the cows. God is Good.

Place: Oregun Comments: I have to be thankful I live where I do, we don't have the severe storms or tornados that a lot of you have, and we have a series of reservoirs that control any floor waters that might come down from the mtns. They learned their lesson in 1964 when the lakes were already full and a huge storm came. The Corps of Engineers had to let water out before it went over the tops if the dams, the result was flooding of the whole Willamette Valley. I used the newspapers my Grandmother sent me and wrote a Current Event report for history. It was a mess but nothing compared to some of the storms many of you endure each year. I'm thinking of you all.
Place: Cowville Comments: Dale, my Cows R extra smart, I taught them how to open gates seems like there's always one or two out. Jack & Rod I know what U R talking about some people R untrainable the IQ of a chicken. Sorry chickens.
Place: Soggy & Molding Comments: The rain just won't go away. Again this morning between about 4:00 to 5:30am it came another hard rain and thunderstorm. My rain gauge had 3 inches in it! It rains every day and has for several weeks. Forecast says "thunderstorms" every day thru Tues! Just heard they are evacuating many areas in Wichita Falls as the river is over it banks. I worry about all the animals with so many tornadoes around here and floods, the people and the animals are suffering. Roe, do hope you got it done and you and Carolyn and your animals are safe!
Place: Lazy S Ranch Comments: It's not that West Texas cows are dumb. It's just that up until a coupla weeks ago most of our cows had never seen rain. Remember when it rained for 40 days and 40 nights? Records show we got three tenths of an inch. But we could use a small dry spell.
Place: Oregun Comments: Jack, I've worked with a couple of people who were dumber than a cow, no insult meant to the cows. It is hard to get the full impact of the flooding from TV or pictures, it has to be a terrible ordeal. Hope all are safe from the bad weather and feel free to send some of it up here to Oregon, we need it.
Place: Sachse Comments: Roe, do you know anything dumber than a cow?? Even with that, they will probably move to higher ground unless they are some of those rare swimming cows.
Place: ArkLaTex Comments: The Red River is over its banks & Texoma is opening the flood gates. The Ranchers are scrambling to get theirs Cows to higher ground. We've been hauling all yesterday & hoped to have them all moved excepted 5or 6 wild ones we could not catch. Hope they have enough smarts to get to higher ground. |
