Place: The Woodlands, TX Comments: Memo To Roe Burrow: Very sorry to learn of the passing of your sister, Kathleen Burrow Pulte, yesterday. She was an integral part of the Class of '63 and was always taking an interest in the health and welfare of her fellow classmates. I knew she'd been very ill this year but kind of felt she'd improve.
Place: Sunnyshine in Richardson Comments: It was another stormy and heavy rain yesterday mrng, but this mrng . . . the sun is shinning and it's beautiful. Fri yielded 6 inches here and Sat another 3 and half. No where for the water to go but UP! Can't believe the forecast, next 6-7 days is Sunny!!! No telling how long it will take for the over-full lakes, reservoirs and roads to go down. For those of you not on FB, Linda Wright McCoy's mom, Hattie Mae Wright, passed away this past week and she was buried Fri. Prayers to Linda and her family for healing.
Place: DS Comments: The McCombs little boy was found on Wed evening and he is deceased. So sad for his dad and family.
Place: DS Comments: I've been keeping up with the McCombs family and read yesterday that the little boy was found, his condition wasn't good. Hope it's true . Praying that he will survive and the mother and little girl be found. Can't comprehend the devastation of all this rain. Dear Lord, please send it to California, they could sure use it. Glad to see construction workers were back at work in DS. Sun's out for the second time this week!!! Hey!
Place: Soaked and Squissy Comments: JS nice to hear from you & to know you & yours are OK. I haven't been able to stop thinking about the McCombs family and the other people in that house that was swept away. How horrible for him to be the only survivor and he is seriously injured. And now to know that Mary (Soc '68) & Joe have lost their dtr-n-law and both Grandkids. it's like a terrible nightmare that doesn't end. Thanks JS for sharing your info.
Place: The Woodlands Comments: The latest news from my own Class (Cl of'63) is the surprising turn of events in which Judge Tim Wright changed his "not guillty" plea to "guilty" yesterday. Our Tim Wright was caught in a federal firearms sting conducted by Homeland Security. It is a very tough way to end an otherwise distinguished legal career. The government is recommending a 5 year sentence in a federal prison. Here is the latest on the story: http://www.texaslawyer.com/id=1202727838002/Judge-to-Resign-Surrender-Law-License-After-Guilty-Plea?mcode=1202615604418
Place: The (high & dry) Woodlands, TX Comments: All of you can quit fretting about MY welfare. The storms and heavy rain are not a problem here in The Woodlands 'cause we have "deed restrictions" prohibiting such unpleasantness. All kidding aside, the tale of that family lost in the floods of Wimberly on the Blanco River is a massive tragedy. The young husband (Jonathan McComb) was swept down river for 12 miles before he could finally get to the bank and seek medical attention. His wife Laura and two children (ages 4 and 6) are still missing. The sad tale even has a SOC connection. Some of you may recall Mary Longyear (Class of '68). She and her husband Joe are the parents of Jonathan McComb. ![]()
Place: Dry Oregon Comments: The rain problem must be Bush's fault, right ? I really am sorry for any hardships any of you are dealing with, having never gone through anything like you all are is hard for me to imagine. We do have higher ground her in Oregon so if any of you can get out of Texas we have lots of dry land. It's odd how many think the Northwest is always wet and Texas is always dry, seems like Mother Nature is teaching us all a lesson. Hope everyone survives the flooding and don't loose their homes.
Place: Richardson Comments: Oh my gosh, another downpour last night. Lasted about 3 hrs. Had 3 3/4 inches in rain gage just from last night. Breckinridge Park is under water all the way up to the cabana! Don drove over to the hill but all roads closed. Could only see the very top of the cabana showing and Brand road actually flooded. We are safe and dry but worried about others. All the lake damns are overflowing, things are bad all over TX! Enough rain!!! Saw on FB that Toni is Ok but Jack and Karen D. in Sachse, are y'all Ok?? Water rescues in Sachse this mrng. Geeez!
Place: Richardson Comments: That's great news Jack! All of Don's family, Mom, Bro, nieces, nephews and aunts and uncles all live in and around Houston. None have flooded homes but said Houston was at a standstill yesterday with major fwys shutdown and all the Galleria area under water. It's hard to imagine what 10-11 inches of rain can do to a city that's barely above sea level. And then there's Wimberly, TX . . . all those homes and people swept away by the Blanco river. Makes me even more thankful that I'm dry, warm and not in danger. Hope Shortcake is still high & dry and Mary Skwarlo lives near San Marcos. Of course we have lots of Socites in and near Austin which was flooded too. Pray everyone is safe.
Place: Sachse Comments: I Spoke with Jerry Tillery. He and his are all OK. Said he had to route around the water to get to work, but it was doable.
Place: Lake Tawakoni Comments: I'm really surprised my trees did not blow over yesterday. The wind was clocked at 70 mph here. It was an incredible sight. Really feel for the people at places like Wimberly. Seventy homes totally destroyed and hundreds damaged. I'm sure I'll regret saying this in mid August, but it can stop raining now.
Place: bigD Comments: I lost a big tree two days ago, It is now fire wood for next winter.
Place: Garland USA Comments: Hope everyone made it through the last round of storms yesterday but I'm afraid we are in for more rain this week. Many of you saw the picture of a neighbor's tree I posted on Facebook. I'm thankful we only lost one small tree. Hope everyone had a safe Memorial Day. It's always humbling to remember those who gave so much for all of our freedoms. Sandy McGee, I believe I remember Rocky Ramsey being a neighbor of yours. I always think of him and several others we all knew who never knew life as we have. Anyone hear from any friends from SOC who live near Austin and/or Houston? Hope all are safe!
Place: Sachse Comments: Mr. Smiley, I think you have me confused with someone else with whom you spoke with on Monday mornings. I don't remember seeing you ever in the mornings. And, I don't understand of what you could be speaking. "What you talking 'bout, Willis?" |
