Apparently Smiley is always watching, just waiting to pounce on those vowel abusers.  Where you been hiding out Dale??

Hey Toni, when I went past your house last week I saw the For Sale sign in the front yard.  Then, I think I saw on FB where you said you sold it!  I guess you've had all you can take of those "interesting" neighbors that moved next to you. So have you picked out a new house yet?  Where?  When are you moving?  Curious minds want to know. [smile]

Jack,   Just because Vanna struts across the stage every time you buy a vowel does not mean you can add another "I" to your name.

Indeed they are Sammy, and so is that full moon!  This month we have two full moons . . .  the 2nd one on July 31st aka  a Blue Moon.

The two girl Grandones have been with us since Monday.  A 10 yr old and a 5 yr old.  Been fun but they have to go home tomorrow.  The two boys are coming just as soon as baseball ends.  They're in a tournament and when you loose ... you go home.  Catch you later, time to go pack them up for an early departure.

Thanks again for your prayers and well wishes. My surgery just wasn't meant to happen. After one and a half hours, three anesthesiologists and one trauma surgeon tried thirteen different procedures to get a breathing tube inserted. Due to my ankylosing spondylitis causing my neck to be bent down, the insertion was impossible.
I will be having shots in my shoulder to help ease the pain and at least be more comfortable for awhile.
One of my memories of Mr. Headrick was the time he let those in his class who wanted to, sneak down to the auditorium to see Pat Boone. He was a really good teacher.

Just catching up with the GB!  I've had a hectic year thus far but felt a need to sit down and catch up with old friends.  I took a really bad fall going into my garage last weekend but am feeling a little better now.

So sorry to hear that Sammy's surgery was cancelled.  What a bummer!

Karen Melton Davis, I'm really sorry to hear about your little Chippie!  I know too well how much our pets become family.  We lost our first cavalier, Duchess, in April.  Our other doggies are still grieving as well.

Thank you John Southworth for posting the link about Bobby Egan's passing.  I have great memories of him. I always knew he was destined for greatness! Blessings to his family.

Hope everyone is enjoying the weather change.  It's a nice change of pace.  Enjoy your summer everyone!

Thanks John for the story and sentiments.  Robert Headrick was indeed a nice guy and good teacher.

He attended our 40th reunion and was so much fun to talk with and really seemed to enjoy himself.  Shortly after the reunion I received a nice note from him via US Mail thanking me and the rest of the committee for inviting him to the reunion and providing a great program, dinner and time to visit with his friends.  His closing sentence was "It's nice to be remembered."  I shared the note with the rest of the committee as it's not often we get such a heartfelt note of appreciation.  Unfortunately, a year and a half later he passed away. Ramon Ford passed away less than a year after our 40th.

As for the bathroom explosion, you are correct . . .  Mr. Headrick had the right last name!  It was always a sore subject with Bobby, but it was a legend in the making for the class of '66!!  LOL  Of course they rounded up the "usual suspects", but it wasn't any of them that time!  Fond memories of SOC '66 and some of it's finest teachers.

My Headrick and Egan "tale":

In 2004 I exchanged letters with Robert Headrick who was the Chemistry teacher back in 1963. His reply informed me that he was at SOC for 10 years then spent 17 years at Kimball and retired in 1986. Moved to Lancaster.

I relayed to him my failed plans to become a Chemical Engineer and discussed some of my classmates including Michael Egan who had discovered how to make a crude form of gunpowder in Jr. High.

Apparently, the name "Egan" triggered some old memory and Headrick mentioned "He may be the Egan brother who set off the massive explosion in the boy's restroom across from the chemistry lab." That puzzled me in 2004 because such an event would have been BIG news in '63 but no such thing had happened?

About 2009 I learned that the event took place during the years of your class! Long after Michael Egan departed from SOC. The legend has it that there were a number of likely suspects.

One of the persons-of-interest (who shall remain nameless) was nowhere to be found. His girlfriend, a diligent gal named Yuvonne something-or-other, was questioned but knew nothing of the misadventure. Another suspect, Bobby Egan, was high on the perpetrator list. Perhaps in 2004 Mr. Headrick was a bit fuzzy on just which "Egan brother" may have been implicated?

Headrick's letter concluded with "I have good health for which I am thankful every day." In 2008 he passed away at age 77.

Sadly, lives and circumstances change no matter how hard we fight to keep the status quo.

I just recvd this msg from Sarah regarding Sammy.  Frustrating indeed.  Poor Sam & Sarah.

"It looks like there will be no surgery today. They couldn't get the tube down his throat. He's in recovery now.

How frustrating."

TNX Sammy, you know everyone will want to know how you're doing so having Sarah contact me or vice versa would be great so I can give updates.  Praying for a very successful surgery and a good recovery!!

I'm bummed about Bobby Egan's passing. It was a great photo of him on the obit.  Only thing missing from HS was the black hair and those black horn-rimmed glasses.  Other than that he looked just as I remembered.  Sad  we never got to visit with him as he didn't come to any of our last 3-4 reunions.  I think the last I remember seeing him was our 25th.

Sam, you think this is the price for being a great 3rd baseman and firing that ball to 1st base, waist high, for the out?
Praying for a successful out-come and a speedy recovery.
