Place: Calif Comments: Check's in the mail.
Place: Donation Request Comments: I failed to mention a few things on earlier post. I've had a long-term 5-year-contract with Network Solutions for our site. That's why we've been doing fine & coasting along with few donations, it was paid upfront & was a really low rate. That long-term contract expired March 4th this yr. NS has not been providing good service & they simply let our site's software grow obsolete without so much as a warning! Now I've chosen a new ISP, Go Daddy, & I'm setting up a new site. So here's the Donation Request - Only one person gave in 2015 & he doesn't even own a PC. He just likes coming to the reunions! 4 people in 2014. If you can, a donations from as many as can afford it would be a big help! Our funds are low & going into our 50th reunion year we could sure use a little extra so we can afford some decorations and a few fun things to make the reunion more enjoyable. No, the ticket prices aren't padded to cover decorations or music or photo opportunities! The fun things & little extras you enjoy at the reunions come from the money left in the kitty after I've made sure the website & GB are paid up for several years. Our group has always been top notch in supporting this class, our reunions, the site & GB. So from me to you, "Thank You in advance for any donation you may send." As always, make checks payable to: SOC '66 Reunion Fund" and mail to me (Sandy Lynn) at 2801 Ashbury Dr. Richardson, TX 75082. Thanks, I appreciate it!
Place: Richardson Comments: Jack, it was rough going the first day trying to learn a new software & program. Plus, it was a blank canvass! But by the 2nd day it started coming together & I'm happy to say I have 3 pages completed and the 4th half done. I purchased the new site Monday, so I've been working on it only 4 days. Posting photos in the future will be a snap instead of a 4-5 hour chore! There are no more "Free Trials" so when I bought it Monday, 12-7, the clock started ticking. I plan to do the cut-over on January 1. I will have all the pertinent pages and will go back and add photos from our parties and get-togethers. Odd you would ask about money, the new site will actually be less expensive, but I haven't had any contributions in a good while, so funds are low. Also, keep in mind . . . next year is our reunion year! It's always nice to have a little bit extra in the Kitty because it helps pay for a few decorations and the class directory everyone receives. So, if any of you could spare a few bucks for the SOC '66 Reunion Fund, it would be greatly appreciated.
Place: 66erville Comments: Good for you, SNL. I know the site has been a chore for you the last few years. Glad you decided to change host. I am excited to see what new things you come up with for us. Knowing there are cost involved, do we need to fund the kitty again?
Place: Richardson Comments: We had a great time at the SOC Luncheon held at Peaches Walker's home. She's CL '63 and been doing this for 12 yrs. Got to see all my SOC friends from '62,.'63,'64 & '65, plus . . . Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus were there! Got our pic taken with Santa! Update on our class website - Our existing site is all but DOA! I've had terrible problems with it for the last 3-4 yrs. I've complained each time I try to post our Get-Together photos, it just won't work!! They always make excuses and then try to blame me or my PC for the problems!! I'd finally had it and bit the bullet. I'm now working a brand new site!! Before you ask . . . No, you can't just "transfer everything over!! It all has to be recreated one page at a time. I started Monday and I now have 3 pages done. It will be totally different and I will be able to easily add all our pics fro parties and of course, our 50th! It's a little harder than I thought it would be but I plan to debut the new site on January 1st. I will have info about the Reunion and how to book your hotel room. The old pics will disappear when the old site is killed and I bring up the new site. We will keep our Domain Name, SOC1966.com" and the old site will simultaneously go down as the new site goes up. Once the site is up and running and everything is working good I will go back and post many of our Get-Together pics and our 40 & 45 reunion pics. But on January 1, 2016 it will probably be 5-6 of the main pages like HOME, EVENTS, 50TH REUNION, UPDATE YOUR INFO and MEMORIAL pages. Anyway, I'll let you know when I'm ready to do the cut over and yes, we are keeping the GB!
Place: Oregun Comments: It's a shame but when budgets need to be cut, maintenance is usually the first thing cut back. I have 3-4 schools districts I work with on their flooring projects and I see this in every school, elem to college, public or private. It is a shame to see these schools deteriorate as I have over the last 20+ years. They end up paying more in the end but they continue to go down the same path. This holds true in the smaller districts as well as the larger ones. It is a shame but little seems to get done to change it.
Place: Richardson Comments: This isn't the first time SOC's been in the news. About 2 wks ago a reporter did a story on the deplorable conditions at the sch. The ceiling tiles were gone and elec wires were hanging down, there were buckets everywhere to catch water from the leaky roof & you never knew when you'd have any heat or AC. Been that way since sch started. DISD is not noted for their ability to repair and maintain schs . . . they just build new ones! OH, and where the ceiling tiles were removed there was mold! I do hope they fix all of it over the Christmas break!
Place: Cypress Springs Comments: First of all - yes the kidney stone is still hanging in there!!!! The Dr. is waiting until after we get everything with Mom settled since I feel ok. Mom had some problems last week and we have been trying to get her Dr. problems done so, unless I feel really bad I will wait to get anything done. They have suggested we have what is called "gentle care" for Mom (another word for hospice I think). She has congestive heart failure and several things and the hospital just runs every time she has a pain and says nothing they can do. Under gentle care she can have the nurse see her at home, which makes her happy. ![]() Did you guys see the news on SOC? The kids walked out yesterday in protest of the conditions! They said they were tired of waiting for repairs "to be made on the 63-year-old building" they complained about the hot and cold classrooms, the leaking roof etc. Oh and that they were tired of the teachers leaving in the middle of the school year. Several million dollars have been given in the budget to fix it and a lot of it should be completed by the end of January but I guess that is not soon enough. They walked out in the middle of the STARR test. I probably would have protested the test and not the conditions!!! lol Anyway - it was all over the news yesterday. Just goggle South Oak Cliff High School Walkout and you can read all about it.
Place: Richardson Comments: Annette - Small world! I met your brother Bill at the SOC Christmas party thrown by Peaches ( cl of '63) at her house. She's been doing this for 12 yrs. When he found out I was from 66 he said "I have a sister who graduated in '66" . Nice guy - he sends his best! ![]() Oh, he said you now live in the Woodlands, did you send me an update? I thought you still lived in Houston. Do send me your new info as next yr is our reunion yr and want to be sure I have your correct address.
Place: bigD Comments: Goose or turkey, it doesn't matter, I'll eat it, then take that nap. Oh yes I'll eat the whole pecan pie.
Place: Oregun Comments: Jack, I would prefer you keep your Christmas Goose to yourself. Nothing personal.
Place: Oregun Comments: Jack, I don't dislike turkey but we have it a few times a year so I am tired of it. I found a ham at Costco that is great, large boneless, unsliced and great taste, so that's my choice. Oh, I don't need to use turkey as an excuse for a nap, they are pretty much automatic these days.
Place: 66erville Comments: Rod, are you saying you don't like turkey?? Shoot, the nap it gives you after eating it is reason enough. How do you feel about a goose for Christmas?
Place: Oregun Comments: Sandy, I think it is like many things that start out special and end up like a daily occurrence. If we had it every week or so it wouldn't be so special. I would hate to get to the point where I didn't want it any longer, like I am about turkey.
Place: Richardson Comments: Glad you & your family have been enjoying the Sweet Potato Casserole Rod! It is an old family tradition and we have it each and every Thanksgiving and Christmas. Not sure why I never make it except on those two days?? Maybe I'll start making it more often as I could eat the whole dish myself! Uh, maybe that's why I don't make it all the time! Was sad to learn of James Burge's death. He had given me his new address & updted info in January of 2014. He was living in Carthage, Mo. Another classmate/friend gone. |
