Well, it was a nice surprise to see that Rosemary is back in Texas!  Welcome home, Rosemary!

The news about the Fugate family is not such a nice surprise.  However, I can ask my Sunday School class to add the Fugates, Ada, Charles and Jim Young to our prayer list.  Plus anyone we don't know about yet.  I love all my SOC 66 classmates and am so sorry to hear about their problems.

RoseMary, glad you are back in TX and hope the "circumstances" that brought you back weren't a really bad thing.  Yes, going to check with hotel and see what date in Oct we can get the bar area without having to compete with drunk wedding party guest!! [rolleyes][rofl]  I'm hoping for either Oct. 21 or 28.

Thanks for checking in with us and letting us know your back!

Hi SOC family, First of all, I lift Barb a Don’s family, Ada, Charles , and all others in need, in prayer 🙏. This morning is the first time , in such a long time that I have opened the “Guestbook” but I will be checking in more often. Due to circumstances, I am back in TX and living with my son and family. I understand there may be a Fall Mini, and I hope to attend and see my SOC classmates. Take care, and sending hugs and healing prayers… RoseMary (Zapata) Cooper

Donnie & Barbara, I'm so sorry to hear things have taken such a wrong turn. They have both been in my prayers for quite a while but time to double down. They have had so much illness in their young lives. Thank you for sharing.

Please forgive us for the long post.

We don’t post often but we are posting this asking for prayers for our daughter Kellye and her husband Derek. As a lot of you know, Kellye had anal caner 2 years ago and was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year. She underwent a double mastectomy and had implants. The day after she was released from the doctor for that, Derek became ill(7/13). Needless to say this has been a very stressful year for them.

Derek has an autoimmune disorder called Antiphospholipid Antibody Syndrome (APS).  The immune system mistakenly produces antibodies that make blood much more likely to clot. These antibodies can cause blood clots to form in arteries and veins.  Another symptom is low blood platelete counts (Thrombocytopenia).

When labs were run Derek's platelet count was at 2000....normal range for platelets is between 140,000-450,000.  So, he was admitted into the hospital for two weeks.  During this stay Derek underwent several treatments.  All of this in hopes to build his platelets back up.

Saturday 08/12/2023 Derek was admitted back into the hospital.  Monday 08/14/2023 Derek underwent a spleen embolization.  By Tuesday 08/15/2023 his renal labs (kidney function) were still not good so it was decided that dialysis was needed in order to give his kidneys a rest.   While in the hospital his platelets have continued to improve and he underwent 7 Dialysis treatments.

Thursday 08/24/2023-Derek was released from hospital with platelets at 34,000.  He will continue to receive outpatient dialysis on Tue-Th-Sat each week until his kidney function has returned.  The kidney doctor is wanting to do a kidney biopsy once Derek's platelets are above 50,000 to make sure there is no clotting within the tiny vessels in his kidneys.

We are happy to have him home. This is definitely a marathon that he is running and not a sprint.  So it is going to take time to figure out what is next.  Please continue prayers for his kidneys to heal and recover and for his platelets to continue to increase.

Their primary care doctor was able to get them an appointment at UTSW in Dallas on September 12th, with specialists that are familiar with the Antiphospholipid Antibody Syndrome and all that is involved.

Specific prayer request:  Please pray that his platelets continue to increase, that his kidneys continue to improve and that he continues to gain his strength back.

Hay Ada, I have took the liberty to book you into the SOC assistant living facility. You are in room number 1, this is where the staff & security can keep you in check.  You are one of the original hell raisers.  Room number two is a tossup between Sandy Lynn & ShortCake.

Charles has a P.O. Box.  Here is the info.  P.O. Box 723, Midlothian, TX 76065.  And you're right Ada Ann, he is the most positive person I know and he never gives up. Talking with him will make you feel better.

I'm so sorry to learn of your struggle with Parkinson's.  But it's very encouraging to hear some of the symptoms have gone once you quit taking the medication that was the culprit. Maybe y'all can make it for the Fall Mini if you are feeling better.  Uh, guess I better get it in gear and get the Mini on the books!!  Take care Ada Ann - get better soon![love]

I talked to Charles last night....he was pretty upbeat.  He has more strength than anyone I know.  He can lift up my spirits just by talking to him.
I don't know if I have his correct address.  Could you please post it
I have a medical update.  I have a form of Parkinson's.  It was brought on by a medication I was taking.  This was in May when the symptoms started and the reason we didn't attend the last mini.  I am off that medication and some of the symptoms have gone away, but not all of them. They could stay around forever.
Maybe Charles and Roe have a good idea about the SOC66 senior living center.

I talked with Charles again Saturday morning.  He's gong to have more blood work done Monday morning to check on status of his kidneys and other issues.  Dr. wanted to put him back in hospital but Charles said "No".  He told Dr every time he goes into hospital he comes out feeling worse!

Charles is a fighter and he said he will fight until the end, never giving up! He also said he didn't live this long by giving up and every day is precious to him.  Good lesson to remember from someone who knows how hard it is to keep going each day.  Feel free to call him or send a note or card.  It really brightens his day to hear from any of us.  Contact me and I can give you cell and address if you need it.  sandylynn754@gmail.com

Thank you James for the update on both you and Charles.  I'm glad you are breathing better after the stent and hopefully you will continue to improve.  Stay inside until the heat wave brakes!  No matter what your health is . . .  this heat will suck the life right out of you!! [rolleyes]

I hate to hear Charles is still having trouble receiving enough oxygen. I'll follow up in the morning with him.

Monday a week ago I had another Heart Cath in Tyler. Dr cleared some plaque and put in o e stent. Doing good so far and feeling much better.
Also, just got off of the phone with Charles Moss. He has a Drs. Appointment this afternoon at 3:30 and he is having issues maintaining his oxygen intake. He seems to be in fairly good spirits and really enjoys having calls from his old SOC Buddies. Anyone wanting his number email or text. Also know he appreciates Prayers as do we all in these times in our lives.
Take care all and stay safe.

Thank you very much, Sandy and Jack. It is so nice to be remembered. We have had a great time of celebration. 50 years married, 74 years of life. What can we say but that God is so good! Wishing all my classmates the very best themselves. Blessings to all…Paul.
