Place: Richardson Comments: Congratulations on G-baby #3 Doc!!! Maybe they can name him Charles Sam! Jim, I was wondering the same thing about Jerry Tillery & family. Richmond is still under water & as of this evening news they said they expected the water to rise even further tonight in Richmond. Jack - Have you spoken to Jerry today? I know y'all stay in close contact. Thanks for any news anyone can provide on our classmates in the affected areas.
Place: KC, MO Comments: Birthday Greetings to all who are celebrating today - and congratulations, David, on the birth of your grandson! Our bakery / luncheon today raised $2,851.40 for Houston - not too bad for a hastily thrown-together project. Of course it's just a drop compared to what will be needed - but "every little drop"....I especially like the $1.40 portion. To me that last little bit represents the grassroots nature of the event - donations being made by employees as opposed to a check being cut by corporate. (Of course, the nice, big, round cash and in-kind donations being made by corporate offices throughout the country are greatly appreciated - hope that they keep rolling into Texas and Louisiana for a long time!) Love to all - Carol
Place: southlake Comments: My daughter Ashley just gave birth to a baby boy right on Charles Moss birthday Grand baby number three for us
Place: Carthage, TX Comments: Jack, Is Jerry Tillery still doing ok? Richmond was still getting tremendous amounts of water as of yesterday. Glad all are safe and hopefully can rebuild or make other arrangements.
Place: Richardson Comments: I have an update on Larry & Martha Lewis. Just spoke with Larry. They have moved from the shelter in TX City to a friends house for a few days & he's on a "list" to get a rent car. Hopes to have one by this evening or tomorrow. Rental place said they were trucking in a load of them from other cities. Also, a friend of their son-n-law has a house in TX City that didn't flood and he was about to put it up for a rental. He told them Larry & Martha & their dtr & her family they could use the home for as long as necessary. The true kindness of strangers helping people in desperate need. They lost everything but are happy to be reunited with their dtr & her family and for the help they have received. A neighbor next to the house they are in temporarily has been giving them a ride to the shelters to find some clothes, buy some basic essentials & to the car rental place. Hopefully they get a car soon. They have already filed on their insurance. Larry & Martha, as well as their dtr's family were rescued by boat on Sunday morning. They are glad to be reunited and to be able to stay in one house together as they figure this out & try to put their lives back together. God Bless Texas and all our friends as they start this long hard journey of recovery. It will not be quick.
Place: Birthday Celebrations! Comments: Yes indeed, something good to celebrate today. On August 31, 1948, Charles Moss, Janie Jones, Rusty Powers and of course . . . Sammy R. Smith were born. Happy Birthday to all of you and may you have many more birthdays to come!! Best Wishes!
Place: Dallas Comments: Happy birthday to Rusty Powers, Janie Jones Gann, Charles Moss and Sammy M. Smith.
Place: Southlake Comments: Is Harvey's first name Lee?

Place: KC, MO Comments: It was great to learn that Larry Dunn and family are OK. Let's keep the good news coming! We're having a bakery / lunch tomorrow in our office to raise money for the United Way of Greater Houston - baked goods, pizza, boxed lunches, etc. I won't be surprised if items are purchased for way more than normal. Such events are taking place throughout the country, of course - because the U.S. is filled with good people! When it has been determined what our SOC group can do to help our friends affected by the storm, I know that we will step up and do what is needed. Love to all - Carol
Place: Oregun Comments: Thanks Sandy, don't know how I got the idea he lived in Houston. We were camping last week, a lot of smoke but we were fine. Sunday the Forest Service came by and said we needed to leave, fire was moving our way. It's very dry here, sure could use some of that Houston rain here. The situation there is awful, hope all will be OK.
Place: Richardson Comments: Rod, Don L. lives outside of Austin, near where my dtr lives. Yes, they got a lot of rain but nothing like they have received in the past or what Houston got. I do believe he is fine. But I'm afraid as the water slowly goes down in the Houston area there will be many more drownings than they first thought because they haven't even been able to get into some of these areas and won't be able to for several more days. Now Beaumont is being flooded, as Harvey just won't give up.
Place: Oregun Comments: Trying to catch up, has anyone heard from Don Lincoln yet ?
Place: Richardson Comments: Heard through Carol C. & some back channels that Larry Dunn in Houston is Ok. Not inundated with water. Thank you Carol for letting me know. I'm still worried & very concerned about Larry & Martha and also Carolyn who had to evacuate too. Don & his Mom are very fortunate. No water in her house & still have electricity. No landline though it went out Sunday. A Kroger store opened Monday & today a WM & Target are supposed to open. This is all in Pasadena around her home and not in main Houston. Pray for Houston and the entire south TX area as this is going tot be a long hard road to recovery. |
