Place: Our Fall Get-Together Comments: I hope many of you have read the post below or seen the Events pg. regarding our next Get-Together! It's been almost a year since our 50th . . . Let's get together!!!
Place: Fall Get-Together ! Comments: Have been working on getting us a place to have the Fall Get-Together. Hyatt - No Double Tree - No. Holiday Inn - YES. Here's the info, so mark your calendars & make plans. Fall Get-Together is October 28, 2017. Will be from 2:00 to 6:00pm on Saturday at the Holiday Inn. It's the same H.I. we had several other gatherings at before we started going to the Hyatt. Location is 1655 N. Central Expwy., Richardson, TX 75080. Pho: 972-238-1900. It's just 1 block south of the Double Tree. Unfortunately, the Hyatt had big weddings (350-400 people) booked on the dates in October & each had a reception & dinner following the afternoon wedding. The Double Tree opens the bar at 4:30 and wasn't interested in accommodating us. The H.I. was glad to open early for us. Please pass along the info to our friends & spread the word.
Place: Richardson Comments: Jerry - It is so nice to hear from you and that you are able to finally get back to your office. We thankful you 7 our other classmates didn't get water in their homes but can only imagine how devastating it must be for other residents so so fortunate. As far as I know, the only SOCite to be rescued via boat and have their home inundated with 4 feet of water is Larry Lewis. They lost everything (50 yrs of marriage) and were taken to a shelter. They are trying to recover and with the kindness of friends of friends who gave them the use of their rent house for as long as necessary, they are at least safe and not in a shelter. God Bless Houston and all the surrounding areas covered in water. Will be along hard road. Let us know if anyone knows of one of our SOCites whose home got flooded.
Place: Allen, TX Comments: Sandy, any of those dates work for me. Gee! I wish I could attend the '67 50th reunion. The job sure gets in the way of fun. LOL
Place: Sachse Comments: We cannot make the end of October. We are going on a cruise on October 17th and will be back October 31st. Could make the 12th or end of Sept. Bobby got through his surgery today. He is hurting tonight but Tammy fixed him dinner and then he took a pain pill and is asleep.
Place: Lazy S Ranch Comments: Jerry, So glad you sorta dodged the bullet concerning Harvey. Von and I were worried about you and were happy to hear you are OK. See you around February. keep on keeping on.
Place: Richmond Comments: I am just now getting to the point of having access to my office and time to share some information. Thanks to all that sent prayers and good wishes our way. Fortunately none of my extended family was directly affected by water. Several of us were basically captive in our houses for 4 to 5 days since there was so much water everywhere. We were finally able to get around a little over the weekend. Our prayers go out for all those who did suffer from the flooding, especially for those with water in their houses. According to some reports I have heard that several areas around town may have water in the houses for two to three weeks. I think we were spared because the rain ceased on Sat upstream from us(College Station, Brenham and Hempstead). Our rain run off flows primarily to the Brazos River which dumps into the Gulf at Freeport. Those areas feed directly into the Brazos River which was our major concern. Others were affected by Buffalo Bayou, White Oak Bayou and Cypress and Spring Creeks as well as the Trinity and San Jacinto Rivers. Those sources all flow toward Galveston and Trinity Bays on the east side of Houston. There was so much rain it was unbelievable. The rain was so widespread that all were affected as has never happened before. As I told Jack and saw that he posted here, we received at least 52 1/4 inches of rain from Fri through Mon. I hope to never see that much in such a short period ever again. It was also good to read that most SOCites in the ares were spared the water. However for those that did not our hearts and prayers go with them.
Place: Richardson Comments: Ladies - thanks for the input. Yes - I'm kind of partial to the last of October (10-28) myself. It gives us/me more time. Executive decision, let's shoot for Oct. 28th for our next Get-Together! I will call Hyatt & see if they have any big event for that day. If so, I'll fall back to the Double Tree across the street. As far our 70th B-day Party, I haven't got anything in place yet. Just got the idea and some interest in having one a week or so before Harvey hit. I'll admit, with Don down there with his Mom in Pasadena and all his relatives and many of our friends all in Houston and the surrounding areas, I was glued to the TV & my phone all week. I didn't do much else. I'll need to do some checking at several places to find something appropriate. I learned by watching several other classes try to pull off a 60th and a 70th Party only to have low attendance and end up in the hole because the costs exceeded the income! It has to be low key and not too costly so everyone can attend without a big expense and if we don't get a big turnout we aren't out lots of money. I'll start calling about our Get-together and a place for our 70th and see what I can find. Will give an update as soon as I get some info. Thanks so much for the interest in both events!
Place: North Richland Hills, TX Comments: Any of those dates are alright with me, Sandy.
Place: NH Comments: Will the 70th birthday party be in the Spring?
Place: KC, MO Comments: I vote for the end of October, as I can't make it for either of the other dates. Of course, I can't expect you all to plan around my schedule - or can I? ![]() Love to all - Carol
Place: Get-Together Questions! Comments: Ronney - Thanks for reminding me about a Get-Together! With the boys here for a week then the next week Harvey hitting, I've not even thought about it. Sorry! The '67 50th reunion is the weekend of Sept. 23 & 24, so can't have it then. Several of our '66ers (including me) will be attending, plus some of our gang are married to someone from '67. How about any of these dates: Saturday, 9-30, October 14 or October 28?? Any of those look good for y'all. I'll check out the Hyatt at Campbell & Hwy 75.
Place: Allen, TX Comments: Sandy, Are we having a get together this fall? Just wondering. I haven't seen anything of GB, but I might have missed it.
Place: Sachse Comments: Bobby is going to have his gallbladder removed on Tuesday morning in Rockwell. His Dr kind of reminded me of my knee dr. She walked in wearing scrubs and cowboy boots. Do not care what she wears as long as she is good. If BD is feeling ok we will probably go home Thursday. I usually drive so he can kick back and relax! Thought this would basically be a nice relaxing trip up here for the surgery but my brother-in-law had emergency appendectomy Friday. He went home from the hospital yesterday. Hope everyone is still staying dry. A lot of the guys that worked for Bobby are in the Houston/Beaumont area. Keeping everyone in that area in our prayers.
Place: Richardson Comments: Good to hear the Tillery Clan are still safe & dry. It's hard to comprehend what 50 plus inches of rain in a few days would be like. I know a couple of yrs ago we got 5 plus inches in 24 hrs and that was an overload. I can't imagine how all the people who lost everything will recovery, it's mind boggling. I hope Larry was abl eto get a rent car by today so they can get their dtr, son-n-law and G-dtr and get into that home that was offered to them. At least they can all be together as they work thru this. |
