Place: Gaspe, Canada Comments: We are in Gaspe, Canada today. Looks like it will be a beautiful day but cold! High in the 40s. We leave at 5 for Halifax, Nova Scotia. Having a great cruise and absolutely love Viking!
Place: Richardson Comments: Don't forget about our Fall Mini Get-Together next Saturday! We have several people coming from out-of-state to attend, so make plans to be there so you can visit with lots of old friends. Two that come to mind are Carol Carpenter from KS and Paul Scholte from OK. Invite: Saturday, 10-28-17 from 2:00 to 6:00pm at the Holiday Inn It's located on the south bound access Rd of Central Expw. (aka Hwy 75) just a short distance south of the Campbell & Hwy 75 intersection. As always , it's casual & Free. The only cost would be if you want to purchase a drink or perhaps food from the bar. We gather at the bar and there are lots of table & chairs.
Place: Richardson Comments: Thank you Gary for update on Steve Short. We appreciate you letting us know about his condition and upcoming major procedure.
Place: Mansfield Comments: I just wanted to let those who might be praying for Steve Short know that his long procedure that was to begin tomorrow, the 15th, has been pushed ahead at least a week. I will let you know the day before he goes in.
Place: Richardson Comments: Per Charlotte - David's services are as follows: David A. Walker Sr. - Visitation is Tues, Oct. 17th between 6 to 8 pm. The funeral services will be on Wed, Oct. 18th at 2:00pm. Both will be at Laurel Land Memorial Park. It's just off I35. Here's the obit she sent.
Place: Deryl Litchford's passing Comments: It's with great sadness and a broken heart that I learned late yesterday another friend and classmate has passed away. Deryl Litchford died in the early morning hours of 10-11-17. His wife, Carol, is also a SOCite from '68. We've lost two classmates in two days and I know both David Walker and Deryl Litchford were good friends with many of you, I'm so sorry for your loss. Please keep their wives, Charlotte and Carol, in your prayers as they travel these uncertain waters. I will post info on the services as it becomes available. RIP David and Deryl . . . you both will be missed!
Place: Calif. Comments: I just heard from Carol Litchford. My oldest and best friend Deryl died last night. He'd been through a lot of health issues over the years. Mary Ann and I , along with the Litchford's traveled together a multitude of times over the years; from San Francisco and wine country, to Cabo San Lucas and other parts of Mexico,Tahiti and points in between. I've known him since grade school, and we stayed in touch for well over 50 years. Arrangements are pending at the Midlothian Funeral Home. He's missed.
Place: David Walker's passing Comments: For those of you not on FB, I am sadly posting to let you know another classmate and friend, David Walker, passed away yesterday afternoon (10-10-17). David was diagnosed with cancer last year about the time of our reunion. He had been undergoing treatment. He was married to Charlotte (Hilburn) Walker and both were SOC '66ers. Prayers for Charlotte as she travels through this difficult time. RIP David.
Place: Calif. Comments: I was reviewing the "Memoriam" page and noticed there are 88 of our classmates listed. I know number 89 is coming up, so for safety sake, I'm reserving number "90",:it's mine. Nobody can take number 90, so leave it alone. I'm in no rush to take that number, but it's mine; so, you folks need to relax, and take care of yourselves. Somewhere between now and 20 years from now, I'll step up and take that number. So,.........leave it alone and take care of yourselves. I'm just sayin'.
Place: Richardson Comments: I'm excited for you Carol. Hope you make new friends and make some great memories. Can't wait to hear about the concert when you're here for the Mini. And I don't blame you, I never post on FB personal info about where I am or when I'm not going to be at home. I don't think it's a smart move. Place: Almost Aspen - Colorado! Comments: Rod - Glad that you're home; just keep healing and feeling better. I'm still not totally comfortable posting my "whereabouts" on Facebook - so just a reminder here that I will be Aspen-bound next week! I'm excited but still a little nervous. I'll stay in Denver Monday night - then be on to Aspen on Tuesday for the John Denver celebration - leaving Aspen on Sunday for one night in Manitou Springs - then home on Monday. I'm expecting to see a lot of beautiful country, hear a lot of great music, and maybe meet some new friends. It may be just hype, but supposedly there will be JD fans from several countries attending the music festival. Then - a few days after returning home - I will be off again to see some of the best folks in the world at our SOC mini! Life is pretty sweet sometimes! Love to all - Carol
