Place: Edmond OK Comments: So that i am not guilty of withholding a story, when she was five years old my wife sat on Elvis’ lap when he performed at the Old Sportatorium. Speaking of the Sportatorium, my mom worked at JC Penny with Fritz von Erich’s mom. The only event I have is as a student at UTA, my buddy and I were walking one night on Campus and a tour bus pulled up to ask us directions. We looked in the open door and there sat Porter Waggoner and Dolly Parton.
Place: Edmond OK Comments: Jack, You are so good at getting to the key point of the story!
Place: 66erville Comments: Dang, Sam, never heard that story before. You left out the important part, did they let you use their bathroom??
Place: Edmond Ok Comments: What a FABULOUS story and a treat for you. And what fabulous artists they were too! Thanks for relating this.
Place: Dallas Comments: Paul, Here's something to add . My older brother Marty Smith ( class of 1963 ) bought 2 tickets in 1961 to see Peter Paul and Mary perform at Moody Coliseum . He bought mine for my 13th birthday. I actually met all three in the downstairs suite by accident. I had to go to the bathroom before the concert started. I got lost in the maze, heard voices in a room, knocked on the door to ask for directions and Paul answered the door. I told them I was lost and Paul said " Well Lost, I'm Paul and this is Peter and Mary". Memories I'll never forget.
Place: Edmond OK Comments: Sam, You really run the gamut, from Blue Eyed Soul to Folk Rock to...I am not sure how to categorize Neal. 😁
Place: Dallas Comments: Any song by Simon and Garfunkel, The Righteous Brothers and Neal Diamond. Sarah and I were fortunate to see The Righteous Brothers perform at Moody Coliseum in Dallas and Neal Diamond twice at American Airlines Arena.
Place: Richardson Comments: That's why I do better with a hairbrush in my hand rather than a mic! Love me some R-E-S-P-E-C-T .
Place: Edmond OK Comments: I suppose that could prove problematic. 🗣😁
Place: 66erville Comments: Sometimes she forgets she's lip syncing and sings!
Place: Richarson Comments: Careful what you wish for . . .
Place: Edmond OK Comments: To see you do the Aretha Franklin thing would be worth the price of admission.
Place: Richardson Comments: I'm a big Sam & Dave fan, so Hold On I'm Comin' is a personal favorite of mine as well as Soul Man! I also still like In the Midnight Hour by Wilson Picket. I'm an ol' Rock n Roller and just ask the girls . . . don't play Aretha's RESPECT unless you want me to lip sync it. LOL Hopefully Sally T. will come back here and let us know what made her go to NYC. Maybe her handsome husband was the incentive?
Place: Edmond OK Comments: Remarking on your comment, Sandy, I do wonder how a classic Texas gal like Sally ended up in the Apple. I have never heard the story if it has been told. 🤔
Place: Edmond OK Comments: Speaking of those wonderful days, do any of you have a really special song from our SOC years that goes beyond just, “I liked that song alot”? On the playlist I have for my gym workouts, I have “All These Things” by Joe Stampley and the Uniques. Not sure it made much impact at the time outside Texas and Louisiana, but it was popular during our graduation activities, especially our Senior party at the Country Club. KLIF played it either while driving to or from (maybe both) and that was such a great evening, it is really special to me. Y’all have one? |
