Place: North Richland Hills, TX Comments: I kind of like the idea of The Chocolate Angel. I love that place and we haven't been there in a while. But whichever one you choose will be fine. You must have read my mind ... not an easy thing to do. I was just thinking this morning that we haven't had a GNO in a while. I'll save the date.
Place: Richardson Comments: Paul - I look forward to seeing you & your wife at the Spring Mini!! OK girls . . . I'm giving everyone a little over a months notice that there will be a Girls Luncheon on Saturday, December 8, 2018. The place is open for suggestions! Carol Carpenter will be in town that weekend to attend a John Denver tribute by Jim Curry. It would be great to have a luncheon so we can visit with Carol. Mark your calendars and let me know if you have a particular place you want to eat. We can go anywhere up or down Hwy 75 or anywhere else for that matter. There's always the good old standbys of El Fenix or Chocolate Angel. Just make sure you "Save the Date"!
Place: OK Comments: I know I am ready for the next mini after my schedule SNAFU with regard to the Birthday Party
Place: Richardson Comments: I just wanted to reiterate Don Lincoln's post (3 posts down) regarding Odis McLean's obit & his request for no flowers, instead he asked for people to make a contribution to 3 Charities, or, a charity of your choice. Odis was a kind and generous man and the Wounded Warriors was a special thing for him. The quick onset of a very aggressive cancer and a quick demise ending in a very unexpected death of our good friend, Odis, has brought new meaning to my constant plea, "Please make every effort to attend our Spring or Fall Mini, or any other get-together, because the person you would like to see may not be there the next time!" We all thought we would see Odis & Karen at the b-day party . . .
Place: Richardson Comments: Watching the WS again tonight but, wanted to wish Ada Ann Happy B-day again here on GB. Hope it was a fantastic day for you and wishing you many more to come. It was so wonderful seeing you for the party!!!
Place: Allen, TX Comments: Odis is definitly going to be missed. The minis will not be the same without his big smile.
Place: LV, TX Comments: Another follow-up regarding Odis, partly for clarification and partly with additional info. When I offered to collect donations on behalf of our class and submit them to the Wounded Warrior Project, I didn't intend to imply that you couldn't make a personal donation, if you preferred. However, if you're interested in the group donation, please reply at the link shown above and send your donation to me. The 3 he requested, in lieu of flowers are: 1. Wounded Warriors Project - http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org (personal or group donation) 2. Jews for Jesus - http://www.jewsforjesus.org (personal donation) 3. Salvation Army - http://www.salvationarmydfw.org (personal donation) Realized we hadn't posted a copy of his obit previously, here's one: https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/dallas-tx/eudis-mclean-8029819#remembering
Place: OK Comments: Happy Birthday Ada Ann
Place: LV, TX Comments: Care to lighten the mood a bit? If so, please join me in wishing Ada Ann a Happy Birthday today!
Place: Lago Vista, TX Comments: I mentioned earlier that I intended to follow-up regarding Odis, or as his memorial program reads: "Eudis Odis McLean, Jr.". I also discovered he and I shared the same birthdate - Nov. 7, 1947. The memorial video produced by his step-daughter, Heidi, revealed interesting glimpses of a man most of us knew very little about. Many of the photos showed Odis and his wife, Karen, dancing, smooching, cutting up, and behaving like teenagers into their senior years. Many other photos showed how this inspired their children and grandchildren with much fun and togetherness, as did their unshakable love for each other and their collective family. For an otherwise sad event, it gave us some feel-good moments. Sandy mentioned in her previous post that there had been a Bag Piper. Although it was on the program, he startled many of us with the opening selection. But, when closing the service with "Amazing Grace", I think it drew every tear and sent chills up everyone's spines. The note at the bottom of the program reads: "Pipe Major Robert Richardson has performed for HRH Queen Mother, Prince Charles and Princess Diana, Pope John Paul II, Frank Sinatra, Paul McCartney, and now, the most interesting man in the world, Odis McLean." In closing, Odis requested in lieu of flowers, donations or memorials be made to any of 3 organizations, including the Wounded Warriors Project. I mentioned to Sandy and others at the service that I'm willing to accept pledges or donations from our classmates and submit the total from our group. Once I have a confirmation letter from WWP, I'll post a note here and e-mail donors as Bcc addressees to provide proof. The family should also receive a similar letter advising them of our donation. I think a collection period until mid-end Nov. should be sufficient, but I'm flexible. I've activated my e-mail link above. All my contact info is in the student directory from our 50th reunion.
Place: Allen, TX Comments: I am emotionally overwhelmed by my classmates' show of support. Love and thank all of you.
Place: Kerrville Comments: Will keep the Sims and the McKees in our thoughts and prayers.
Place: NH Comments: Ronney and Connie, my heart is breaking for your family. Just know that I am praying for God to hold all of you in his healing hands.
Place: Lago Vista, TX Comments: Randall - If you're out there, by any chance, to you and your family - please accept my sincere condolences on the occasion of your wife's passing. I did not know Peggy, but wish I'd had an opportunity to meet her. I can't imagine the void that must be created, but never filled, when your life-long friend, lover, and partner is taken from you. Try as we may, I'm sure there is no way we can ever be truly prepared for that day, which will surely come for all of us. We were classmates since grade school. Once Sandy has an opportunity to post our Oliver football team photo from '59-60, we'll all be able to see that. But, I wasn't aware that you had attended the 50th reunion until noticing your couple photo in Album #2 from Sat. night (row 3, col 3, image 15/78). I sure wish one of us had recognized the other, but guess it had just been too long ago. I hope we get another chance in the near future and have activated a link above if you'd care to send a private note - when you're ready. Until then, prayers for you and yours.
Place: Lago Vista, TX Comments: Oh, what a sad week this has become for so many of our SOC '66 family members. I was about to follow-up regarding Odis, but will address that separately. Ronney - I can't begin to imagine the depth of sorrow a parent must endure in the loss of a child; only to be forced to revisit that pain in a situation that threatens their unborn grandchild. That sort of sadness is beyond all that words can describe. I join our other classmates in offering sincere prayers of peace and blessings of the Lord for dear little 'Max', your daughter and son-in-law, you and Connie, and all your family, including your extended family members in Neb. |
