Place: Richardson Comments: We just got back home about 30 minutes ago from Austin. Left at 9:00am and got back about 9:00pm. Went to Don's uncle Jimmy's 80th B-day party! It was at the beautiful Oasis Restaurant atop the cliffs on Lake Travis. They had rented the banquet room on the 3rd level and it faced the lake with an all window wall and a big balcony. Very nice and the food was good too. And, the b-day cake was Italian Creme, my favorite! So delicious. And No Jack, I don't have all my shopping done yet. My biggest problem is what to get 3 14-year-olds! I have everything else done and wrapped. Gotta call their mom tomorrow and yell H-E-L-P! Jack - Next year I'm enlisting your help!! It was so much easier when they were little. LOL
Place: LV, TX Comments: I submitted donations to the Wounded Warriors Project today, in memory of Odis McLean, on behalf of those who contacted me regarding a group donation to this organization. Many thanks to all who responded to this request. Whether you did so directly as a personal matter, or gave to one of the other organizations identified, I'm sure his family will be very grateful - thanks again!
Place: Sachse Comments: What? SNL still shopping? Can`t believe that. Wow, I finished yesterday. Everything wrapped, bowed and, as necessary, shipped. Must be lunch time.
Place: Richardson Comments: Richard - In Carol's first sentence, I think she's eluding to you not having a very good memory?? This should be interesting! LOL We dodged a bullet here, no sleet or snow just some rain and very high winds. They were out of the north, burrrrr. Beautiful today, sunny skies and just a slight breeze. Hope everyone is getting their shopping done, I got a few more to go.
Place: OP, KS Comments: Richard, I remember the discussion about JD but wasn't sure that you did. People's eyes sometimes glaze over and their minds sometimes wander when I ramble on about JD. Would you do me a favor and send me your address? I haven't located my SOC directory yet since I brought my office stuff home. (Don't panic. I'm not planning to drop by for a visit.) ...and who the heck are Patience and Prudence? 🙃
Place: CA Comments: Carol, I'm aware. We talked about that whole JD thing in Dallas and over lunch at Chips. The reality is, who among us are not John Denver fans............and also fans of Patience and Prudence. But, that's me.
Place: Overland Park, KS Comments: Richard, it's really funny that you would say that. When I went to North Platte, NE to see Jim Curry following last year's Aspen trip, I posted that I might be dangerously close to becoming a groupie...but added that at least I would have something to do after I retired. I might actually have reached groupie status, as I have started planning my 2019 JD-related trips. Next stop - either IL or OK to see Chris Collins and Boulder Canyon! 💕 (Of course, my JD-related trips will be planned around our '66 SOC minis.) ❤️
Place: Richardson Comments: Yes, she is a big fan /aka groupie! the show was fabulous! The performers were so talented and it was a great kick-start to this Christmas season. Saturday's girls lunch at El Fenix was really fun! You can't go wrong with El Fenix, SOC girls and margaritas!!
Place: California Comments: Man,. that gal's a John Denver groupie. You two have fun.
Place: Richardson Comments: OK group, it's beginning to feel like December! Thought it time to change the login photo as it's chilly outside. Where are you guys?? I guess you're all over on FB posting. Too bad, because people still read and enjoy this site for more personal info. On the upside, Carol Carpenter is on her way to my house and should be here in a few hours. We're going to the Jim Curry concert tonight. He's a great tribute artist for John Denver's music. Tomorrow, Sat, we're having a girl's luncheon at El Fenix. Looking forward to seeing so many of our girlfriends! It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas . . .
Place: The Woodlands Comments: Awesome pictures and memories of Oak Cliff https://www.pinterest.com/dsedwards2/oak-cliff-and-memories/
Place: LV, TX Comments: As I mentioned to the SOC '66 Vets in a separate e-mail, since we're into the holidays now, I'd like to finalize the group donation to Wounded Warriors for Odis McLean by Dec. 15th. Once I receive a confirmation letter from WWP, I'll post it for all contributors to view and his family will receive a similar letter. Thank you.
Place: LV, TX Comments: The fried turkey turned out great - crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, very flavorful, but not spicy. I started marinating it Wed. a.m. and we served dinner late Thu. afternoon. Kathy complimented it with a smoked, spiral-cut ham, plus all the traditional side dishes and desserts. It was a drink, eat, nap, repeat ... sort of day. Only our oldest son, Greg, and his girlfriend, Val, live close enough to visit, so they came up from Corpus to join us this year and she also brought more homemade desserts ... mercy. Now, only the 2 of us are left to continue working on the leftovers, since they went back today. We'll be heading down to visit them at Christmas.
Place: Richardson Comments: Don L - how did your fried turkey turn out? Hope you didn't burn down the house like so many people do when using hot grease! Hope it was a great feast for you Kathy & some of your family. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day all day long! We went to my brother's house & it was family & friends all day working in the kitchen, eating, cleaning the dishes and eating pie. Of course you can't have a Thanksgiving in my family without pie, coffee and the Cowboys game on TV. It doesn't get any better than beating the Redskins on Turkey day! 31 to 23! Go Cowboys!!
Place: LV, TX Comments: Best wishes to all classmates & families for a happy & safe Thanksgiving Day! I've been marinating a turkey since yesterday & it'll be headed for the frying pot around 5 pm. |
