Place: North Richland Hills, TX Comments: Has anyone tried to get on Facebook today? When I try to open it, all I get is a blank, white page.
Place: Overland Park, KS Comments: I don't know about the quality of the reproductions that Classmates offers. I did purchase a reproduction from e-yearbooks for my brother David for his birthday last year. He graduated from DeSoto (Kansas) High School in 1958. The reproduction is quite good. Of course all of the notes to the original owner of the book are included, but that doesn't hurt anything, IMHO. SOC '66 mini coming up 1 month from tomorrow! YEA!!! Love to all!
Place: Edmond OK Comments: Classmates.com has been offering these yearbooks for quite a while. Depending on how the replication is accomplished, quality might be suspect. They have offerered them in the past for about $100.
Place: Soggy Richardson Comments: TNX Jack. That's interesting. Hope they do a good job!
Place: 66erville Comments: The website, Classmates, apparently has reproduced the 1966 Den for sale. Not originals. They may have other years too, but the notice I got only spoke of 1966. I thought I remembered someone looking for a Den, so I put the info here.
Place: Richardson Comments: Jack, what do you mean by "reproductions" of our Den?? Who is selling them??
Place: 66ervile Comments: FYI: Classmates is selling reproductions of the SOC 1966 Den.
Place: LV, TX Comments: Sandy - Sorry my message didn't come across the way it was intended. I'm sure your experience of yesterday is still sensitive today. To be clear, however, I also don't expect the Mystics to actually regroup, especially with the sad passing of David, plus the additional info you shared regarding Danny. You touched on what I was actually referring to - the memory of David smiling when he sat down at the keyboard at our 45th, how much they surprised everyone when he announced the Mystics were back, all the fun we had that night, and of course, the music - we have that much at least. For anyone else planning to attend David's military service at DFW cemetery tomorrow at 11:15 a.m., the following was copied from their website: "All funeral processions meet with their family, clergy, and cemetery representative at the Public Information Center (PIC) and then proceed to the designated shelter." Rick Mitchell and I plan to attend.
Place: Richardson Comments: Don L. - No, I don't agree with your assessment. There are only 2 Mystics left, Danny & Glenn. Danny hadn't played in more than 25 yrs when David asked him to be part of the 45th reunion surprise. He didn't want to at first, but David was relentless & finally talked him into it. In fact, David had to borrow a guitar for Danny as he didn't even have one. Knowing what I do, Danny would not likely be playing in any type of band, he is not in very good health. On the other hand, Glenn is just like David, both would play at the drop of a hat & Glenn still plays anytime he can. To me, David was the Mystics and I will always remember the smile on his face at our 45th when he took the stage and sat down at his keyboard. The beautiful memories will live in my mind forever, but the Mystics will not ever play again. And, No, I didn't see anyone filming the service. I actually have never seen someone videoing a private service that I've attended.
Place: LV, TX Comments: Sandy - I wanted so much to be there with you and Rick yesterday. It sounds like quite a unique service and I hope someone recorded it for others to view later, so maybe I'll get a chance. You know Glen and Al Struble, and maybe Danny, while continuing to play their own music in the groups they've formed since our time, will continue to play those songs as tributes for as long as they have instruments and groups to belt them out. So, please try to keep the faith. I don't see the Mystics dying out in our lifetime - many of us are still here. I'll bet they'll still be talked about and those songs will be resurrected from time to time by those who miss the good old times we enjoyed in the future.
Place: Richardson Comments: I went to David Mitchell's services this morning. Rick Mitchell and I sat together. It was a heart-wrenching yet heart-warming service. Gave me a chance to say good-bye to David. There was no church music played, instead, the opening song was played from a recording "Never gonna let you go" written by David about his wife Shirley. There was two different guys who each got up and sang. Each of them stood in front of a mic with only their guitar and sang, each song was beautifully done. All 3 of his children spoke as well as Glenn and Alan Strubble. Glenn and Alan spoke of how they grew up with David and how their two families meshed and always supported them in their music endeavors. They spoke of the Mystics and how much fun they had together. I was hanging in there and holding it together until the very end . . . and then . . . the last song played from a recording, "Didn't We Have A Good Time!" I lost it, as did many others. It seemed as if today, the Mystics died.
Place: LV, TX Comments: There were several entries on that Garage Hangover/Mystics website by Robert Faries' sister, indicating she was trying to locate him or contact anyone who knew where he was. It's unclear whether or not she ever caught up with him before he passed - very sad. I think some of us became aware that Ron Jobe was ill in 2011, which prevented him from joining the Mystics for their surprise appearance at our 45th reunion. Members of the cover band, Chill Factor, including Al Struble (Glen's younger brother), filled in and Al posted a note on the above website afterward that doing so was a dream-come-true. Although I'll miss David's service on Sat., I'm taking leave from work on Mon. and plan to be at DFW cemetery for his military service. I hope the weather forecast improves, but that can't be helped.
Place: Balmy in Richardson Comments: OK Gang, let's plan a Mini on Saturday, April 13, 2019! Not sure which hotel will get the honor of our presence, but will work on that next week. I know many of our group aren't feeling good and battle health issues, but all the more reason to get together and see one another! I'll let you know as soon as I confirm a hotel. Speaking of Get-Togethers, the Class of '64 is having their 55th Reunion on April 26 & 27. Click the link to go directly to their site and the info is on the Home pg. They throw a real good party! http://www.soc64.com/
Place: Richardson Comments: You're right Paul, and I do have a lot of very good memories flooding into my mind the last few days. Each time I see a Mystics photo on FB ( and there are a lot being shown) it brings back fond memories.
Place: Edmond OK Comments: To me the Mystics were a “defining contribution” to what made SOC 63-66 special. Thanks to Sandy and Don for helping us revisit that time. I’m just glad we all have the opportunity to make those days a shared and treasured possession. I choose to think of those people and times not as lost to us but as always residing in a storehouse of cherished memories. |
