You're welcome Paul!  I just thought it was such a good description of Randy & those not of FB would miss seeing it.

Yes, the Hyatt for our Mini is located at 701 E. Campbell Rd. @ Hwy. 75 in Richardson.  C'mon gang, put a smile in your heart & a lilt in your step and let's try to make this a great turnout and enjoy visiting with great friends!

Hotel reservation made for our SOC '66 Mini! Just FYI in case anyone still needs to make a reservation - There are two Hyatts in Richardson. The Hyatt Regency is where we'll be - not the Hyatt House. (I verified that with Sandy.)
I hope that all who are able to come to the Mini will make an effort to do so. I'm guessing that at least one classmate is hoping to see YOU above all others.
Love to all - Carol

Unfortunately, this  beautiful obit wasn't printed on the program at his services on 4-2 but, it was still on his wall on FB.  Someone, maybe his wife??, posted this on 3-31.  I thought you would like to read it.(see below)  RIP Randy.

"Randy R Conine passed away peacefully Friday, March 29 surrounded by family and friends. He was a loving husband and fur daddy leaving behind his beloved wife Marian Conine and dog Gracie. He is also survived by his Uncle Jim and Aunt Peggy as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Randy was born on December 18, 1948 to Sharon and Al Conine. He spent his life in Oak Cliff graduating from South Oak Cliff high school in 1966. He earned his Master’s Degree in English from the University of Texas at Arlington. Randy dedicated his life to education as an English Professor proudly serving the Dallas County Community College District. During his 43 year career he impacted many lives and was proud of his relationships with his students. He was an incredible teacher and was awarded the Piper Professor Award from the State of Texas. Randy was a tireless advocate for his students focusing his attention on international students, he believed that education was a right for all. He and Marian established the Sharon Conine and Inez Austin Scholarship fund in honor of their mothers.
It was always his dream to build a cabin in the woods, he was a great carpenter, he reached his goal when he built his amazing cabin in Mont Alba with his former student and surrogate son Nathan Brown and his wonderful hound dog Sam. He was an avid reader with a great love for books. He enjoyed classic country music, the likes of Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard, and he loved his pickup trucks. He was a loving and caring man dedicated to his wife Marian and dog Gracie. His loving spirit will be missed by everyone.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 1, from 6pm to 8pm at Jeter and Sons funeral home at 332 Cedar Street, Cedar Hill, Texas 75104. The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 1pm at the same location. Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to the Human Rights Initiative in honor of Randy."

You're so funny Paul!!  No, I think they're all kinda afraid of me so they don't dare lift it. LOL LOL

Seriously, I'm the one who usually "forgets" to take all my stuff. I have been know to leave my camera only to have friends "Fugates" pick it up and bring it to me at the dinner. [rolleyes]  So I guess what I'm really saying is "Don't let me leave  my stuff behind!  [biggrin][rofl][rofl][rofl]

Paul, I understood perfectly.  We can't go around being depressed/sad all the time.  None of our friends would want that.  I talked with Vernon Moreland & Bovie late yesterday after I got home from Randy's services.  Both are coming to the Mini.  We are going tot have a great turnout!  Remember: April 13th @ the Hyatt Hotel.  See our Events page for full details.

Paul - your RSVP for a hug has been accepted!  I would like to see lots of smiles, hugs and good memories of good times remembered and shared at the Mini.  This time I promise I'll bring my Den.  It's the great reproduction Fugate did for our 40th.  I use it all the time because my original '66 Den is so fragile.  I do expect to get it back when we leave the Mini. [smile]

You are right Paul, we need to be able to celebrate life and the good memories we had with friends who have left us.  I think some of us are just pouring out our sad feelings and hopefully will feel better and more joyful at the Mini.  Our friends would want nothing less than for us to have a good time with each other.  So let's remember them the way they would want . . .  being happy & celebrating life!

Just know in advance . . .  everyone is getting a hug from me!!  [biggrin]

Hopefully we can balance the mood at the mini so that good friends are conscientiously remembered while still being positive about the ones who remain.  This has been an emotionally draining couple of months so it is important we make this mini a celebration:  of positive and fond remembrance but also of what a great class we have still remaining.  A lot of wonderful people are still with us; we should not forget that.

Robert H. McMillan, I am glad to hear you are recovering. And, I am sure all of our fellow SOC '66ers are glad you are doing better, too. It is so sad that we have so many classmates passing away or are sick these days. Part of growing older, I guess But so many of our class members are either sick or are dying that the loss of our friends is really doing a number on me. I feel so lonely knowing they are no longer with us. For me, this was not something I thought about when I was younger. Now, though, I cannot ignore it. So thankful we still have a good group with us. After all of our class parties, I now thank God for those of us who are still with us. And, glad to hear you are doing better. Take care of yourself.

Janice, you have always been such a caring person. That is what I always liked about you. I was able to sit and talk with Randy for awhile at the 70th party. It was the best talk he and I had ever had with one another. I rememberd to him about what a "nut" he was in school. Whenever I saw him, I knew I would soon be laughing. He just said something to me like, "Did what I had to do to keep 'em smiling." Such a typical Conine response. I was able to tell him I loved his sense of humor. His humor often took everyone by surprise. I am so sad to hear he died. But I am so enlightened to find out what a great and caring person he grew up to be. Can you imagine how it would be if all of us in the Class of '66 were as loving and caring as Randy. What a remarkable person to make such an influence on his students' lives. That has boosted up in a VERY positive way, the way I think of Randy Conine from here on out. What a powerful influence that has for all of us.
Janice, as  always, I look forward to seeing you at the upcoming mini.
