Memorial Day is for remembering those who never came home from the war fighting for our freedom.  It's also a time to remember our good friends from SOC, any class, who came home but have passed away.  They also fought, but have recently passed and we miss them greatly.  God Bless America & I pray our friends are resting in peace.

It nice to read all of your good memories about Chris and his brothers. Chris inherited his grandfather's land and home in Pittsburgh. Once he moved there he became distant and then went silent. I hate we didn't know for so long and as far as I know he was alone. Hope you are now at peace.

Back in my sophomore year at SOC (1961) I had my eye on the lovely Dianna Cottle who turned down my request to join me for a burger & coke at the Freezette on Beckley. “I can’t” she said “because I’m going steady with Ben Oefinger”. Dang. Ben was a senior (Class of ’61) and a big shot in ROTC. The Oefinger family lived two blocks south of SOC High at 4217 Summit Ridge. Ben had a younger brother (your Chris) and an older brother Simeon (“Sim”) who was a 1957 SOC grad. The good news (for me) is that Ben did eventually graduate, leave town (for Texas A&M), and open the door for my long awaited shot at Dianna. Some of you might remember her … long curly dark hair … used to carry my books to school. Sadly, Sim passed away in 2015 at age 75 and Ben is now an 81 yr. old Master Gardner in Cleburne. This concludes my yarn about the Brothers Oefinger.

Always liked Chris. We went to Oliver and SOC together I think. He also had an older Brother. We became friends on Facebook and then I don’t think I ever saw a post from him. Was living Pittsburg. Texas.

Sad to hear about Chris. He was a good guy at SOC. He came to one of our minis back when they were out on west 635. Didn't talk much and sat mostly by himself at the bar. Told me he didn't really know why he came. Whatever your demons, they are gone now. Rest in Peace.

Here is the obit Richard sent me for Chris.  Unfortunately, it appears when we start looking for people we haven't seen or spoken to in several years, we find they have passed away and its been many years ago.
Chris passed on Oct. 14, 2020.  So long Chris , it was good knowing you.

Sadly, I learned last night that another SOC '66er has passed away.  Chris Oefinger passed away on Oct. 14, 2020.  Richard Carter found the information and sent it to me.  Thank you Richard!

It takes a village to keep up with all that happens within our SOC group.  So never hesitate to send me an obit or, even better, something happy or great about a Classmate. I have a lunch appointment today but will post the obit here when I return.  RIP Chris.

Well, I posted the photos from Saturday about 45 minutes after Toni reminded me I hadn't done it yet.  Then I forgot to post a note saying they were posted!  Uh, photos posted [rolleyes]

Had to establish a page 2 for Mini photos, the 1st page was full and couldn't expand it.

Very funny. No, but I was having such a good time visiting with friends I hadn't seen in a few years . . . I actually took very few pics.
They aren't the best pics but you're right, I need to post them. We only had 18 people and 9 of us went to dinner at El Fenix.

So sorry to hear of Sandra Hurley’s passing. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family.
Sandy, we’ve been waiting for pictures of the get together last Saturday. Did you forget your camera?

The previous post about Sandra Hurley passing had some issues when looked at with a cell.  I'm reposting her photo and the very brief obit that was given so it will be easier for everyone to see. We just found out of her passing on 4-26. Thank you.

Yes, unfortunately we keep loosing good friends and it's really hard. Charlotte Hilburn was good friends with Sandra Hurley and they kept in touch until a few years ago.

Charlotte said Sandra had dementia and slowly their communication got less and less until it stopped.  Charlotte had knee replacement surgery 3 weeks ago and was using the down time to look for info on old friends.  That's when she found the brief obit for Sandra Hurley.

Sorry you and Ramona can't make the Mini.  Wish Ramona Happy B-day for me and hope to see you next time.

Dear Friends;
I was so sad to hear of the passing of our friend, Sandra Hurley.  I remember her as a mere waif, small in stature and huge in personality and heart.  The picture in her obituary shows the smile she always had on her face.  If anyone knows the why or how of her passing, please let us know.

I may not be able to attend this reunion, but I shall try.  My favorite persons birthday is May 4, and it will be a milestone for my wife, Ramona.  We have God to thank for our health, and yes, we have our trials and tribulations, just like all of you, but we'll get through them.  Life is good right now.  I  wish and pray for the best for all of you that I love.  Please try to make this reunion if you can.  As of now, we have 23% of our class confirmed who have passed, with probably another 10% or higher who are missing and we'll never know the details of where, when, or how.  God bless.
