Glad to head Dane has been moved to rehab and that he was in good hands to recover from cardiac arrest - pretty scary.  Prayers continue for him and his family.

I wish there was some way we could deliver one of those over-sized cards from our class, like the one Richard Carter brought to the last mini, that many of us signed, and he delivered to Eileen.

Any ideas on something we can do to boost his morale, or would it be better to send individual wishes - maybe the more, the merrier - ?  Just so he hears from and knows a lot of us are thinking and praying for him.  Y'all jump in here, please.

Jack/Sandy - Please excuse that last post.  I prefer the 'Book Antiqua' font style, but forgot to preview it & reset the size before posting.  Hope this one's easier on your peepers.  Sandy - Please let me know if you feel the need to skip over one of my posts due to readability - I don't mind the feedback.

I went to Walgreens following that last post and got the 1st Shingrix shot.  My cost: $0 - insurance (Medicare) paid: $182.  I felt a little soreness after a coupla days later, but otherwise, no after-effects.  2nd injection due in 2 months.

Susan - Our section of Lago Vista, NW of Austin near Lake Travis, didn't originally have cable TV available.  So, I installed a round mini satellite dish and we signed up with DirecTV.  Several yrs ago, they replaced it with an oval shaped dish, plus new cables and receiver boxes.  It's still susceptible to heavy weather disruption.  However, we manage to cope with it by watching pre-recorded movies or episodes of favorite TV series.

Susan, I’ve hadVerizon FIOS, AT&T/DirecTV and now Suddenlink. The best of these would be Verizon FIOS (now Frontier). DirecTV is a joke. Suddenlink is the only other choice we have up here in the sticks!! It’s not bad service wise but terrible customer service.

The chicken pix vaccine was first available in the 1995. Neither of my kids had the vaccine. My son got the chicken pox and I did everything to get my daughter to catch it!! She didn’t so when she got older she got the vaccine as soon as she could.

When we had DirecTV weather was seriously disruptive. We now have Cox cable, expensive and imperfect, but a vast improvement when the weather is bad.

Several years ago when Bobby has shingles I checked with my Dr about the shot and at that time he told me not to get it because if I had never had chicken pox it could trigger shingles. Course I am sure it has probably been improved by this time. And I understand it is two shots now.

FYI Richard, Doc told me shingles virus was a "strain" of the herpes simple virus (cold sores kind not the genital kind). So chickenpox is part of the herpes strain. That bugger has lots of branches. Hope your outbreaks are few and far between.
Susan, we had Verizon and they sold out to Frontier. Horrible customer service, pretty good packages and pricing not too terrible. Good Luck!

Well, it pays to get everyone involved.  I got a nice note from my friend Earlene & she said she had Chickenpox as a child because the Chickenpox vaccine wasn't available until much later than to any of us during school.  She said the small round scar we all have was for Smallpox.  Both she & her son had Chickenpox.  I do believe she's right, that darn little round scar was Smallpox, which had been rampart in the USA when we were small, kinda like Polio.

So now I wish I could remember for sure if I had Chickenpox or not.  But as soon as my Dr. says it's OK, I'm getting the Shingles vaccine, too many friends are getting this terrible disease.

Jack I know what you mean about older siblings.  I was the older sibling and in 3rd grade I caught everything.  3-day measles (twice), German measles, mumps on both sides and I brought it all home to my brother who hadn't started school yet.   If it hadn't been for a very good & sympathetic teacher, Mrs. Hensley, I wouldn't have passed 3rd grade.  She stopped by the house every few days and brought my lessons home so mom could help me with them.  Between the two of them I passed 3rd grade!

Today I was at my dermatologist office to get my Dupixent shot.  I go every other week & only see nurse.  I asked her about getting the Shingles vaccine since I'm taking Dupixent.  She will check with the Dr & get back to me.  If I can I will do it very soon!

We all know Dane has a lot of rehab to do so let's still keep Dane, Paul and Speedy in our prayers and ask God for a good recovery for all of them and better health.

So happy Dane is making some progress!  I've known quite a few people who have gotten shingles ... I sympathize with you, Jack!  From what I've seen and heard, it's a rough thing to deal with.

On another subject, my husband and I were wondering about different TV services.  We have AT&T/Direct TV and we are so sick and tired of the TV going off when it rains!  Could any of you recommend or warn me about the service you have.  We would appreciate any input you can give us.  Thanks in advance!

Jack, I had all those childhood diseases in elem. school; mumps, chickenpox, measles, various flu strains and viruses.  That's my recollection.  Not sure what that means for my sunset years, but all I notice is an occasional cold sore (don't much like them, but I can deal with it).  Of course, we had Dr. Baker living a few houses over from us, and he made house calls in those days. (I think several of you knew him).

Great news about Dane.
Got to thinking about the vaccine. I believe the "broken glass" vaccine was for smallpox and then three other shots required to enter school.  Chickenpox vaccine may not have been invented until the 1970s. But man, how anybody went through elementary school without getting all those "childhood" diseases I'll never know. Specially if you had an older sibling.

Janet (Dane's sis-n-law) called & Dane has now been moved from hospital to rehab center.  She couldn't remember the name, only the street, but I tracked it down.  Here's the info:
Post Acute Medical  (they call it PAM)
                1001 Raintree Circle
                Allen, TX  75013
                972-908-2000 - main #

Please keep in mind, Janet said he will be in rehab therapy twice a day, morning and right after lunch.  She suggested if you want to visit to come after 3:00pm and even into early evening.  She said they got a big scare last week as suddenly without any reason he went into cardiac arrest!  They got to him quickly & brought him back.  They did add'l tests and he seems to be fine now.  Wow!  I'm sure he would enjoy some visitors, so for all those asking about it, he can now have visitors.
