Place: Another Classmate has passed.

Comments:
Wanted to let you know we just found out another classmates has passed away.  It was Mike Merola, he lived in Quitman, TX.  Charles Moss contacted me a few weeks ago to see if I knew anything about Mike's death, which I didn't.  Charles Goff also lives in Quitman and he's the one who heard about it and called Charles M.  Unfortunately, that's all we have as Mike passed while at home & was found by his housekeeper.

That's all we know, but thought you would want to know of his passing.  RIP Mike Merola!

Just wanted to let all of you know about a "Discount" program Lowe's has for Military Veterans.  It's a 10% discount on all purchases!  Don signed up about two yrs ago.  If you haven't done so already, you should.  We bought a grill yesterday & even though it was on sale, we still got the add'l 10% off.  They give you a card & then they/you can scan it.  Sure helps with all the home repair stuff we buy.

Paul - You said y'all lived in C City 20 yrs.  Was your military career in the Air Force? Did you work out of the Air Force Academy?  I've been all over C City & Boulder & they are so beautiful, when it's not winter! I always made sure my business trips were in June Thru Sept.

Sandy,
I will say visiting and living there are two different things. We never got a snow blower and after the umpteenth time shoveling snow, it gets old. You haven't lived until your dog walks up a six foot plus snow drift, over your fence and down into your neighbor’s yard. ❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️🐕❄️❄

Wow, a lot of us love CO!  Until I stated work for ABC, the only time I was in CO was to snow ski.  We went 1 to 2 times a yr for many yrs.  Then I started my traveling job & saw it in the summer and fell in love all over again.  So much to see, so little time.  [smile]

The Cog train is pricey but it saves the wear and tear on your car driving up the peak. If you do decide to drive, Vernon gave you good advice. They will check your brakes part way down and if too hot, they will tell you to pause for a bit. There is a neat little store at the brake check point. You can also drive a paved road up Mt Evans west of Denver—taller than Pikes Peak—and often you get to see Rocky Mountain Goats and Big Horn Sheep. There used to be a herd of female bighorns that love potato chips, hence the name, “Potato Chip Queens.” At Pikes Peak you end the drive on the Summit. On Mt Evans you hike the last 300 ft but what a view from the top.

Hello Don . It sounds like a great trip. Hope you all enjoy your adventure. Some things I would suggest is to use your transmission and down shift when going down hill ,to keep your brakes form over heating and glazing over. The other thing , Pikes Peak is over 14,000ft. The air is very thin.Have a wonderful trip.

When I was working . . .  CO was one of my 5 or so states I traveled to seeing clients/prospects.  I liked Denver (in the summer) but I loved C City & Boulder so I cultivated lots of clients in those places so I could visit there more often.  It's so beautiful in C City in the summer bec you can still see snow on top of Pike's Peak.  Enjoy Don, as Paul said, there is much to see!

Don - If you don't already drink lots of water throughout the day, you should start doing that to ward off altitude sickness. ...and of course I suggest a trip to Aspen if you have time. Have a great trip! - Carol

If you are feeling gutsy take the swing out over the Royal Gorge but watch out for that infamous first drop. 😱😱😱. It is NOT for the faint of heart 😳

Don,
Kathy and I lived in Colorado Springs for 20 years so we know the place. Estes Park is Fun, but touristy. Take the road through Boulder home of the Univ of Colo to get to EP. Be sure and drive the Trail Ridge Road to Grand Lake, Grandby and back to EP. You will get to drive at 12,183 feet which most cannot say they have done. Be sure and do Royal Gorge and the Pikes Peak Cog train. Hike around RMNP and see the beauty of the Rockies. If you have time, see the Great Sand Dune NM home of some of the tallest sand dunes in the US. It is southwest of the Springs. Take the train trip THROUGH the Royal Gorge. Visit Old Colorado City and Manitou Springs on the edge of CSprings. Lots to do. You wont have time for it all. By the way, we lived at 6900’ and weren’t even in the mountains.
