So sorry to hear about Speedy.  I remember hanging out with him, particularly one summer.  Great guy.

I’m not going to be able to attend the October Mini due to a rare booking of my Nashville band in the city of my primary residence Uvalde, Texas.
Any SOC 1966 era friends are welcome to the famous Lone Star Saloon on Friday October 25th or my annual outdoor music/food fest the following evening at my Uvalde Batters Box.
And of course Prayers for our classmates who have passed before us, and Prayers for the ever dwindling number of us who remain.

I cannot imagine a world without Speedy. Men do not usually say this about one another. But, I cannot think of any better way to describe him. SPEEDY WAS PRECIOUS! I am so glad I have pictures of his "over-the-top" smile. I will miss that smile. He was one-of-a-kind. I will always remember him. The most delightful man in our class. He may have been small, but his love for each of us was gigantic. I tearfully acknowledge that each of us will miss that giant of a little man. SPEEDY, WE LOVE YOU!!!!

I'm so sad to hear of Speedy's passing. He was a champion at Lisbon and a champion in all our hearts. Our prayers are with Myrna and the family at this time.

I'll continue prayers for Myrna & family, although Speedy is now free of suffering.  May he join Odis, David, Randy and others in heavenly laughter now.

I'll notify our vets by e-mail DL also, since Speedy was a former sailor.

There's no question in my mind that Speedy just finished and won the biggest and most important race of his, and of our lives too.
Thank you Speedy for sharing a part of your life with me way back at Lisbon when you did...it really meant a lot to me.
I didn't get to know you as well as I would have liked to - but know that from now on you will always be in my thoughts and prayers.
R.I.P. amigo.
God bless our SOC class of 66.

It is with a very sad heart that I post this info.  Mike aka/Speedy Harrison passed away this morning about 5:00am.  Myrna called to let me know.  He will be cremated, so no date for services set.  Please remember Myrna, his wife, in your prayers.  I will let you know when arrangements are made.

For all of the old Lisbon gang . . .  this is especially difficult.

When we chatted during various '66 get-togethers, Speedy usually reminded me of the times he, David Hamm and I, plus a few other guys from '64 & '65, worked at A&P in the SOC shopping center at Kiest & Lancaster.

The lady in the cashier's office and ass't store mgr were a pretty cool pair.  But, the store mgr was a bit of a tyrant.  When he was on a tear, I think his facial expression might spook the Grinch!

The mgr got word of some employees stirring up trouble by trying to unionize with meeting flyers.  So, he made sure everyone got a quick face-to-face visit to let them know they didn't need to go to any such meetings or sign anything to join a union.

Speedy and I got a chuckle in more recent years after recalling that we went to one of the meetings anyway, got all riled-up from the union boss' pep talk, and signed up to become new members.

Several paydays later, after our measly hourly wages rose from $1.15/hr. to about $1.30/hr. or so, the new deduction for union dues took it's share and left us with less than we were taking home before!  So, the store mgr got the last laugh, but we never admitted it then. [sneaky]
