My brother & his wife have been without power since before dawn Tuesday morning.  they came over last night and hoping for power today.  Nada!  Oncor is "working on it" and hopes to have all power restored by Friday.  The biggest concern is all the food in his Fridge & freezer. his whole neighborhood is out.  He lives in Lake Highlands in Dallas.  At least his home is in tack without damage and we're enjoying having them here for a good visit.

in my area of Richardson we all have power.  Thank goodness!!  But most of Dallas & Plano and Garland don't Our neighborhood is littered with trees and alleys blocked, BUT no roofs were damage and everyone is OK.  Just a lot of stuff to cleanup. My bro & his wife are on the way over as they lost power at 6am this morning and still nothing.  Didn't want them in that hot house all night.  Finally got them to head on over for supper and some cool air.  they'll stay the night.  Gotta  go.

Paul, certainly glad y'all escape that really large hail and you are safe.  We're in a good spot here in E. Richardson.  We did get some heavy rain and very high gusty winds move thru here from about 5:15am until 8am. Down tree branches, some large, all over neighborhood. Our trees only lost small branches and tons of leaves. No roof damage and no hail.  And, we still have electricity!!  Many in Dallas, Plano and Garland have no power!  Unfortunately, weatherman says another storm will move thru DFW area tonight with more of the same.  Really wish Spring would be over .  .  .

We are fine Sandy, thank you. The storms have been veering northeast or southeast of us. It has been amazing. We have had 95 tornado warnings in the state this year. We are truly grateful.

Nice to hear from you Paul.  I saw where OKC has had more than it's fair share of storms and large hail.  I know yo live just N. of OKC but it looked very severe on the radar map.  How did your & Kathy's home do and are y'all OK?  Did you escape the large hail, sure hope so!

Most people under 50 today have no idea what our generation went thru or what our parents endured.  War is hell and there's no clear winner, everyone suffers. God Bless the USA!

There is no greater love than this than a person lay down their life for a friend. Jesus was saying this about the incredible sacrifice HE was preparing to make but it applies to our veterans as well. 🫡🇺🇸

Memorial Day 2024 - SOC Vets KIA Vietnam - Classes '63-'67

Greetings all – Here’s the link to view the YouTube slide-show for all known SOC vets whose lives were lost in Vietnam:

I’ve already e-mailed this to all SOC '66 vets.

Please remember to fly your flags today and observe a moment of silence as a tribute to all our fallen classmates.

Best regards to all.  – Don

Memorial Day is for remembering those who never came home from the war fighting for our freedom.  It's also a time to remember our good friends from SOC, any class, who came home but have passed away.  They also fought, but have recently passed and we miss them greatly.  God Bless America & I pray our friends are resting in peace.

It nice to read all of your good memories about Chris and his brothers. Chris inherited his grandfather's land and home in Pittsburgh. Once he moved there he became distant and then went silent. I hate we didn't know for so long and as far as I know he was alone. Hope you are now at peace.

Back in my sophomore year at SOC (1961) I had my eye on the lovely Dianna Cottle who turned down my request to join me for a burger & coke at the Freezette on Beckley. “I can’t” she said “because I’m going steady with Ben Oefinger”. Dang. Ben was a senior (Class of ’61) and a big shot in ROTC. The Oefinger family lived two blocks south of SOC High at 4217 Summit Ridge. Ben had a younger brother (your Chris) and an older brother Simeon (“Sim”) who was a 1957 SOC grad. The good news (for me) is that Ben did eventually graduate, leave town (for Texas A&M), and open the door for my long awaited shot at Dianna. Some of you might remember her … long curly dark hair … used to carry my books to school. Sadly, Sim passed away in 2015 at age 75 and Ben is now an 81 yr. old Master Gardner in Cleburne. This concludes my yarn about the Brothers Oefinger.

Always liked Chris. We went to Oliver and SOC together I think. He also had an older Brother. We became friends on Facebook and then I don’t think I ever saw a post from him. Was living Pittsburg. Texas.

Sad to hear about Chris. He was a good guy at SOC. He came to one of our minis back when they were out on west 635. Didn't talk much and sat mostly by himself at the bar. Told me he didn't really know why he came. Whatever your demons, they are gone now. Rest in Peace.

Here is the obit Richard sent me for Chris.  Unfortunately, it appears when we start looking for people we haven't seen or spoken to in several years, we find they have passed away and its been many years ago.
Chris passed on Oct. 14, 2020.  So long Chris , it was good knowing you.

Sadly, I learned last night that another SOC '66er has passed away.  Chris Oefinger passed away on Oct. 14, 2020.  Richard Carter found the information and sent it to me.  Thank you Richard!

It takes a village to keep up with all that happens within our SOC group.  So never hesitate to send me an obit or, even better, something happy or great about a Classmate. I have a lunch appointment today but will post the obit here when I return.  RIP Chris.
