Missed one yesterday ...

Belated H a p p y B i r t h d a y
wishes go out to Ronney McKee, for Nov. 3rd!

Ronney – Hope you enjoyed your big day & didn’t feel a whole lot older this morning.  Like wine, we only get better, remember?

So, if you ring that bell and breakfast in bed fails to arrive, Denny's always has an "Artery Slam" that you can probably get a senior discount on.

Best wishes for many happy returns!

Did everyone have a chance to see last week's Mini photos.  They've been posted for a week under the Our photos. Here's a direct link: http://www.soc1966.com/mini-get-togethers.html

Also did all you girls see the Events page?  We're going to have another Girls Christmas Luncheon the 1st Saturday in Dec.  Here's the link directly to our Events page: http://www.soc1966.com/company.html

As I scanned the obits this morning I saw a face I thought I remembered.  My Sr. English teacher Joe Waddill Jr. passed away at age 91 in Canton, TX.  He was a great teacher and our class was always "interesting" as we had a lot of characters in it.  Let's see .  .  .  there was Howard McAfee, Robert Dean, David White, Sally Taylor, both Barbara Williams and others I can't remember.  Best English teacher I ever had!  There wasn't much of an obit but the site to see it is:

Yes Don, it's been a heartbreaking year for many of us.  Odis McLean was a regular at all the Minis and it's been a year since we went to his services.  Then David Mitchell, who we affectionately called "Doc", left us in March and before we could turn around Randy Conine passed away a few weeks later. And my longtime friend, Mike "Speedy" passed away recently.

That's why it's important to attend these Minis.  You have an opportunity to visit and laugh with old friends.  If you blow it off . . .  you will regret you never got the chance to see that old friend one more time.  Plus there are others that I wasn't as closely acquainted as with these 4.  But all classmates meant a great deal to different people, yet each was a classmate and it saddens all of us.  OK, I'm done. ðŸ˜¢

Since Sandy touched on the subject below ...

I thought about saying something last week about the 1-yr anniversary of Odis' passing on 10/18 and his memorial service on 10/24, plus the many g/b comments from other classmates, including Randy Conine, whom we lost later.

Late Oct. was not at all kind to our classmates.  During that same week, Randall Simms also lost his wife to cancer.  Then, Ronney McKee and his family had to cope with the terrible loss of his daughter's & son-in-law's unborn infant son, Max.

The best thing that happened that week was the continuous outpouring of prayers and condolences from all other classmates to show their support for those in need at that time.  I'm thankful we all have that in the bank.

The Mini Get-Together photos are all posted.  Check the "Our Photos" and click on Mini photos to see all of them.  The most recent is first.  Do me and yourself a favor and scroll on down to the March 2018 photos and look thru them.  You'll notice that 2 classmates in those photos are no longer with us. Odis and Speedy have passed away.  How quickly things can change.

If you look at those photos it will give you the best reason you should be at the next Mini.

I came in to turn off my PC & saw Don's post.  I had to laugh because it was mostly true!  [rofl]

We had a darn good time & who knew Randal & Don L could blow a paper straw sleeve so far??

I'll get the photos posted tomorrow & yes, I got some good pics!  But then, we're all very photogenic.  Good times & so great to see so many good friends.  [thumb]

Adding my thanks, also, to everyone who turned out to make this such a fun mini!  I hated to see Rick Mitchell leave early, but he was nursing a sore leg & needed to rest it & get some meds.  So, let's pray that he gets relief for this issue and full mobility very soon.  [thumb]

A few familiar faces returned to visit - most notably, Charles 'The Bouncer' Moss, recently sprung from the hospital, again - his last GB post said he intended to join us.  He's been thru a hell of an ordeal that isn't over yet, but seemed pretty content to be among his friends for a change.  And, to his right, Ms. Sheryl Bunyard, SOC '67, who has been one of our regulars for many years at gatherings & on the GB.  Our families both attended South Cliff Christian Church, which was a stones throw from SOC's parking lot.  And, then Mario & his wife, Barbara arrived from the 'Playa' a bit late, but just in time to get in on the fun.  [cool]

Sandy was trying her best to (how to express this) "herd cats with a flaming fly-swatter" for a group photo.  I think there were 5-6 taken altogether, but I can promise you, the line-up will be different in at least 3, since some got tired & thirsty, so they walked back to the bar.  Maybe next time we should offer free drinks to everyone who stands still til AFTER the photo shoot! [idea]

Great crowd though!  A little loud, a lotta laughing (a little wheezing), cutting up, but not too rowdy - at least, no broken furniture and the riot squad didn't show up.  But, what are they gonna do - take away our
?!  [sneaky]

I guess there were 3 strokes of luck during dinner: (1) the waitress limited the number of paper-sealed plastic straws brought to the table, otherwise, the number of paper sleeves that we "blow-darted" from around both tables would've covered the floor; (2) if there had been any rubber bands around (and there weren't any) some of us were thinking about making "spit-wads" (remember those?) to intercept & shoot down as many incoming paper sleeves, as possible, while minimizing collateral damage to the max extent; and (3) the luckiest of all - the food finally started arriving & we lost all our thoughts of 'anti-straw-sleeving'; all you could hear was grunting, groaning, "pass the (something), please", "do you want to try some of my (whatever)", "I'm so full - I can't eat all this", "I'm gonna need a go-box", "I think it's past my bedtime - let's pay-up & go!" [sleep]

Seriously, Sandy - Thank you for organizing & steering us thru another memorable get-together!  That's a wrap! [comp]

Thank you to everyone who found the time to come party with us Saturday!! We had 36 people show up and 27 of us went to eat afterward.  We all had a great time.

Yes, there are a lot of us who live within 8-10 miles or so of the Hyatt, but many of our classmates drive long distances to be here.  Yesterday we had classmates drive in from Arlington, Mansfield, Midlothian, McKinney, Frisco, Ft. Worth, N. Richland Hills, Jamaica Beach, Austin, Waller and even KS!  It was a good time, hope you can make the next one in the Spring!!
