Comments: SNL I used to walk almost the same trek as you described. I stayed on Denley to the corner of Adelaide and Denley. I never realized that we lived so close to each other back then. I guess you can learn something new every day. I can also see the baseball field, the horse apple tree and the mulberry tree. We used to throw the ripe mulberries at each other too. They made an almost irremovable stain when they splattered on cloths. Toni, you are so right, we deserve a little time to ourselves after the three weddings in six month marathon.
Comments: Sandy McM, speaking of Miller...was it a brand new school when we went there? Do I remember correctly that we had classes at Cedar Crest Baptist Church before Miller was finished?
Comments: Toni, in what grade did you leave JNBryan? I transferred there from WBMiller in the 4th grade.
Comments: JWT/Joyce.....happy, happy anniversary...you guys really deserve a special day having lived through 3 weddings last year! The sharpest tack in the box beat me to the "funny" about the lip balm! The visual on that one boggles the mind!!! JD, you need some of what Dale has been taking because your memory is playing tricks on you . I went to John Neely Bryan in the second grade, at the tender age of 6, and I was "toe-headed" or "cotton-headed".....almost white it was so blonde! My dreadful 2nd grade experience caused my hair to fall out and grow back a brownish auburn. Only my hairdresser knew for sure the auburn red transformation which took place somewhere around the 20th reunion! JD, I think that's what you were thinking about...remember we spent quite a few hours together with Shortcake and Sue Ash on Saturday at the hotel enjoying those frosty adult beverages. Happy Jack, I think I just answered your inquiry....I was 6 and Karen had been 7 for two months when we met....and the rest is history....thank goodness ![]() .
Comments: Jack, you old nostalgic dog!! I closed my eyes & I could see Lisbon & the playground & baseball diamond as clear as a bell. I remember walking home all the way down Denley to Kingsley, right turn on Kingsley & then left on Kildare. I specifically remember the Tether Ball pole (I loved to play) and the old horse apple tree. We used to pick them up and throw them at each other!! Now I think I'm gonna cry . . . !
Comments: Many thanks to my SOC family for the comments, regarding our anniv. I think we will settle for a quiet dinner. I would have to get guidance from DWF about what to do with the lip balm. We might enjoy looking at the stars on the ceiling. JD I am blushing from the comments from you and Sandy McM about baseball. I always thought the object of baseball was to run the bases. No one ever told me there was another meaning to the terms(LOL).![]()
Comments: To my main man, Tillery, happy 36th!! Thanks for the invite for dinner tonight. I know Joyce loves me being around, but you take her to dinner tonight. We can have boys night out another time. Dale asked for this: Those of you not lucky enough to go to Lisbon may not know that it had a first class ball diamond with big backstop and bleachers on the southwest corner at Denley and Ann Arbor. It also had one of those small concrete swimming pools run by the park dept. in the summer. The guy who ran it in the summer was a SOC grad from 58 or 59 or 60. I think his name was Doug. Besides running the separate swim times for boys and girls, Doug also coached softball and baseball teams. Mostly we just practiced and had pick up games with the people available. But one year there was a city competition. Lisbon park won the city championship. Hard chunking Sammy Smith played third base liked he owned it. Nothing got by him. The first baseman was scared not to catch the balls thrown by him, because he (me) was sure they would kill him if they hit him. Speedy Harrison played shortstop like a vacuum cleaner and I think Walter Carroll was second base (nobody stole second). We were the happiest kids for the rest of the summer. I think that may have been Sam's last year to play ball. Hope you understand Sam's love for 3rd base at Lisbon. This is one of those memories of childhood that last forever. And friendships that span decades. Tillery's church played there at nights and I used to walk up there to see if he was playing. Lots of memories at that old diamond. Crack of a wooden bat and slap of ball in glove. Great memories!
Comments: Mcm, thanks for the baseball training...I didn't know...as I was a late bloomer...regardless of what ever reputation you people had conjured up...I was a very nice, quite, well mannered young man...opened doors, called older people Mame and Sir...called my grandparents Grandfather, Grandmother...I really didn't become a bad guy until Bovie got into my brain...and said there was more to life. Rick, Ricky...Rickypoo...my God Perkins...what's in the water down there...I know I drink clear stuff most of the time...but my excuse is it's not H2O.
Comments: No Sandy McM she didn't come with me. But I did ask her to. I went to the Beach to watch the surfers and toured some antique shops and a antique clock shop. Cal is a beautiful place the trees and plants are different from Texas plants. It has rained a lot here which they say is unusual. Going back to class now.
Comments: Linda P, I was called Rick, sometimes Ricky, Only special people call me Rickypoo, You will have to determine for yourself if you are one of those special people. I think all soc women are SPECIAL.
Comments: ![]() ![]() ![]() HI RICK. Good to hear from you. Hope you're enjoying your training and California. I don't guess Marilyn got to go with you?![]()
Comments: And that means you SCORE.
Comments: Thanks for the BD wishes, Training is still going well. Wish you were here. Richard called, we may get together on Friday. went to see my cousin in Carlsbad on Sunday, haven't seen her in 10 yrs or more. She has written two books on early child development. and will be in Dallas in Nov for a convention. I'll see her then again.
Comments: OK, I understand Home Run JD. I loved Wee St Andrews. Dates there were always fun. I hated to see it torn down. The land had been tied up in court for years after the owner died. Now a luxury (JPI)apartment complex takes up the entire land.![]() ![]()
Comments: Yuvonne, I'm sure you are computer literate as your wonderful? husband...we would much rather hear from you than him...chime in sometime. McM...I love your baseball comment...but ppppllleeeaassseee...dumb you are not!!!! |
