Comments: How did I leave out Sky King, Fury and the GREATEST cowboy ever, Gene Autry? I thought The Thing was the best S/F movie. BLB did you know the Thing was played by James Arness?? When that cut-off hand starting moving, I didn't think I would ever get my breath again. I have a friend who grew up in the desert near Socorro NM. He lived in a trailer when the movie Them came out. It was set in that area. Said he didn't sleep for a month. Kept hearing a strange chirping sound from the desert. If you remember or watch the movie you'll know what he is talking about.

Comments: Barb & I visited w/Christie right after work yesterday. She will leave the Rehab Ctr this Sat (3-22) & go to her dtr Amy's house. They have tried to recreate Christie's bedrm so it will feel like home while she & Bill stay there. Amy has arranged for a Physical Therapist to come each mrng & then after lunch Bill will drive Christie to Baylor for radiation treatments. Radiation will be 5 days a wk for 6 wks. She is also taking Chemo pills. They did a custom mask for her to wear during radiation treatments in order to protect her face. She said it looks like Darth Vader!! She feels all the prayers we've been sending & asked that we keep them up as she has a long way to go & it's a hard road she's traveling down!
Comments: Can't leave out Romper Room and The Cisco Kid. Red Ryder and his sidekick Little Beaver. Who's sidekick was Jingles?? Remember the movie serial Captain Midnight? What was his sidekick's name??

Comments: I remember "Winky Dink", Buffalo Bob and Claribell, Hop a long Cassidy. It's fun to remember ![]() ![]() ![]() My mother told me I would get nose bleed if I sat in the balcony, and I Never had nose bleed. Some people just know how to put my button.
Comments: Thank you KMG for the vote & saying it in proper English!! ![]() ![]() Also, I forgot about It's a Wonderful Life! Considering I've watched it more than any other movie, it must be a favorite! I see it every Christmas and never get tired of it. Some of the oldest shows I can remember are Howdy Doody, Topper, I Love Lucy and then the old Westerns like Lone Ranger & Hopalong Cassidy. Doc, make sure you & Shirley come on June 7th & you can meet the elder Mr. Southworth live & in person!
Comments: Hey, Reynolds-Wrap: Looks like I have something for ORANGE. But, to be honest, it is only a coincidence.
Comments: OK Ronney - did you just pick out movies with Orange in them and go see them? Mesquite has activated out CERT group from the Fire Dept. to help find the teenager that drowned in the flood Monday. They still have not been able to locate him. So we are going over there this morning. We had a group there Monday night but it did not help. It seems like everytime it rains that happens somewhere! Sad!
Comments: On the subject of movies, did any of you guys ever see "Running on Empty"? River Phoenix was nominated for an Oscar for it. And, he deserved it. Everyone in it was GREAT. But, get ready. Even the guys get teary-eyed watching it. Very, very moving flick. If you haven't seen it, check it out sometime. It came out in the late 1980s. You will love it, I am sure. Another great European flick is from Holland, named "Soldier of Orange." I guess being part Dutch make me a little partial to it. It made Rutger Hauer famous internationally.
Comments: Doc Mitchell - to answer your question, the earliest TV show I can recall is "Winky Dink" around 1953-ish. It is perhaps the first "interactive" video game. You could buy a plastic screen that adhered to the TV and special crayons to draw with. In each episode Winky would get in dire trouble. Let's say he was being chased by cannibals and ended up at a river. The announcer would tell us kids to "draw a bridge from here to here so Winky can cross the river". We would do so, and miraculously, Winky would cross the improvised bridge and be safe. Sometimes I'd even remember to put the plastic screen on the TV before I commenced drawing. Nowadays, eight yr. olds can spend hours playing Grand Theft Auto and learning future life skills. |
