Comments: Hey, Yourself , Ronney! I will try and see Vantage pt.How's our Girl?My Eva and Sarah went to Market today to buy for Gorden Boswell and the Baby Store.First three day weekend I have had in several months.Tonight is my night with my Ava!!
Comments: Sandy Joe, My first year to teach I was to have 5 sections : Biology (4) and Chem.(1) then a conference period and coach high school football, basketball and track(after school only). For that I was to be paid $6,000 for teaching and $250 for coaching. On the last day of coaching school one of our junior high coaches told the AD he was quitting. It was too late to hire a new coach so I was re-assigned to JR High FB, Bsktbl and track before school (7:00 AM) then 6 sections of science classes, to pick up one of the vacated coaches classes, and high school FB, Bsktball and track after school. For doing this I was given ANOTHER $250 for a grand total of $6500. I had given up my conference period and my life. In the Spring our Tennis coach left for another job and I became the tennis " sponser" for one year. No salary for that. Did take an athlete to state in singles but I promise all I did was drive the bus and say "way to go." The kids deserved better.
Comments: Hey, Bobby (and all others): If you want to see a good movie, go to the theater and see Vantage Point. Very interesting and fast moving. It is made in a very unusual and effective manner.
Comments: Watched an old great movie western this early morn...SHANE.Jack Palance was great in it too..besides Alan Ladd.I was at the University of Chicago when I first started watching Wolfman Jack..Stayed up many a night to watch his show....Sandy...shot a 76 once, my best in golf.Once bowled 22 straight games over 200.My best scores were left handed. Can't golf or bowl anymore because of the knees and the back.
Comments: Going back and remembering Mr Headrick...Trying to think who it was that combined carbon tet, hcl and I don't remember what else...it was like a bazooka,, next thing I know , I am in flames from the waist down. Thought I would take my pants off because I was in flames about three feet in diameter..then I thought that would not be prudent so I spanked the flames out...didn't want the girls to see me in my underware.Didn't think I would be nominated for any fire prevention commitees.HA!..........JWT are you out there??Sally T???
Comments: Prof. Smiley, I taught 8th grade earth science my first year coaching baseball. I attempted to put them in alphabetical order seating the first day, the first class. I got thru the m's when the bell rang, all of them laughing at me the entire time. Great times, for such little money.
Comments: For those of you that have not met John Southworths' wife, Dru, Yuvonne and I can tell you she is a remarkable artist. She has a studio in their home adorned with her work. She works in many mediums but water color, pen and ink and collages are strengths. The self portrait in little squares is something to see. If it got second in the Woodlands Art contest we need to see the winner. Question is : If she has such a talented eye.....how could she have picked ol' John to marry??? ![]()
Comments: Hey, Dale You and Yuvonne were first to see Dru's latest artistic endeavor - the self-portrait done in pen and ink. If you recall from her studio, it is composed of 234 one inch squares, with each one shaded in a different pattern to create the lights and darks (values). It was so labor intensive, I doubt she'll try that technique again. Today it took 2nd place in the Spring show for the Woodlands Art League. She titled it "Gridded Face". Dru also took a first place with an abstract watercolor. A big day for her! http://people.consolidated.net/swsw/gridded_face.jpg
Comments: We are in Galveston now and getting ready for bed. We went to Fishermen's Wharf for dinner and will be up early to board the ship. Everytime I start doing something Bobby starts asking 500 questions. We have not been together 24/7 in awhile. This should be an experience! There might be something said for 24 on 48 off schedule of a fireman! Just kidding guys!!!!
Comments: Ronney, The Hood has changed since we were there. I was driving through Oak Cliff a few weeks ago and they have changed the " TOYS- R - US" to " WE - BE- TOYS "
Comments: Ronnie you crack me up !!! you must be Dales cuz
Comments: annette the Lionette: Does that mean that WE grew up in the hood? Who would've "thunk" it?? Guess I need to go buy a big boom box to carry on my shoulder as I strut down the street moving my head forward and backward like a rooster. haha!! ![]() "POC-POC-POC-POCAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!"
Comments: Just got in from a 160 mile trip thru Bellville, Chappel Hill, Brenham area with my sports car club. We set out to view the bluebonnets but turned out to be maybe 2 weeks too early. Dale, it is sad and ironic that we were just talking about Mr. Headrick 3 days ago. He inspired me to be a Chemistry major, but I ended up in Finance since Arlington State didn't offer a major in Chem. when I enrolled. This link leads to a copy of a letter I received from RWH four years ago. He mentions an "incident" where he suspects my '63 classmate Michael Egan might be the culprit. Mike was too brilliant to be involved in such a scheme and now it has come out that Bobby Egan (a younger brother) was behind the damage caused by dropping a large firecracker in a toilet. The letter also references "Frank" who is '61's Frank Goodloe who has a younger brother in your ranks. Here is the letter, excuse the quality: http://people.consolidated.net/swsw/headrick_ltr2.jpg Headrick was a hard teacher and a good influence.
Comments: JWT, Do you remember the time we were at Mr. Headricks farm and he let us drop some sodium into the creek. As we all know Na +H2O = NaOH +H2 Since this is a highly exothermic reaction there was a great explosion as the hydrogen gas caught fire and the H2 continued to burn till the Na was all gone. Not too many Chemistry teachers would let you have that kinda fun. He is the reason I minored in Chemistry in college. I even taught Chemistry in Cedar Hill my first year out of school. Mr. Headrick used to tell me he was surprised I passed Chemistry, much less TAUGHT it John Southworth shared a letter Mr. Headrick wrote him several years back. You could tell from the letter that he liked the students at SOC. He was a good'en ! I think we really had great teachers at SOC. Speaking of the Southworths, we had another delightful lunch with them this week and then went to their beautiful home for dessert. They really have a wonderful home that you can tell they continue to landscape and revise. It's just a great place to call home.
Comments: Boy, miss a day, and this board is way ahead of me! Karen MG, so good to hear you're feeling better---I'm doing a comedy workshop at the Laff Stop, we'll have a show next month. They want us all to compete in Houston's Funniest Person contest, YIKES, sounds tough! Jim, speaking of SOC, our movers in Calif. were young Hip Hop looking guys from Dallas---they just gave me the silent treatment until I told them I graduated from SOC. They were shocked! They REALLY respected me then. They started telling me about the hot new rapper named "SOC" and his song---"Oak Cliff, That's My HooD! Put it in your face, make it UNDERSTOOD!" We had a great time singing--look up OAK CLIFF in the URBAN Dictionary---"a place where even Crackz Got Cred!" We are one tough bunch! |
