Yes, Linda, "Old Red" was built in 1913. On October 22, 1957 two hundred and thirty-five students from Sunset were invited to take part in a week long event of painting the old building that off-red color that we all know and appreciate today.

I know this, because my older sister, Elvira, was part of that group.

Linda, I'll warn you now, there should probably be a sign taped to John Southworth's forehead.  It should read something like this:  "Caution! Words coming from this person may be Interesting, but not necessarily true!  Believe at your own risk!!"       JS has been known to pull the wool over more than one set of eyes!

Great pics of Dallas; I remember going on top of the "tall bldg" Southland Life after bible credit exams and reading all the signs "do not throw pennies off bldg, could cause car damage or person damage". That was one tall bldg.
Girls, I just finished watching "Tyra" with segments about being Moms- this one lady was 60 yrs. young and just had her 4th. baby and it was 'TWINS", the oldest child is 4 yrs. Sounds to me like BLB all over again!! I'm sorry Bobby, I'm not making fun of you and your Ava, just glad it isn't me (By the way, the lady didn't mention a "Hot Tub")

Sandy Lynn, the reason the old postcards are in Black & White is that prior to 1955, ALL buildings constructed in Dallas had to be black, white or some shade of gray.

It wasn't until early 1956 that building codes were relaxed and construction using colored bricks was allowed. Post cards issued after that date are much more colorful.

SNL, those postcard photos of Dallas were really nostalgic. I really enjoyed looking at them.

Linda, it's good to know that Gary D is alive and well and does not live underground as many of us suspected. Speaking of missing in action, where the devil is Richard? We need to hear from you, pal. Let us know you're out there.

Yesterday evening while grocery shopping at Tom Thumb in Duncanville, I saw and visited with the "lurker" Gary Dagley.  Gary looked decidedly better than I did, and we had a nice conversation near the produce section.  So, just wanted to let everyone know, Gary is for real, and said that he would see me at the mini in June.  We both have lived in Duncanville many years and it's the first time I've ever run into him.

Sandra Crowe -- hope your first day at work is wonderful.  It sure is a beautiful day outside. 

We had to cover up our begonias outside last night so that they wouldn't get frost bite.

I'd like to thank Doyle Fitzgerald for letting me know one of our beloved teachers passed away a number of yrs ago.  Ms. Rae Files Still passed away on April 11, 1991, but was not on our list.  Doyle remembered her passing and got the info frm the Dallas Morning News archives.  I have added her name to our In Memorium pg.  Below is the DMN obit:

"A memorial service for Rae Files Still of Waxahachie, a former state legislator and teacher, is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Central Presbyterian Church in Waxahachie.

Mrs. Still died Monday at Baylor Medical Center after a brief illness. She was 84.  She began teaching at age 18 in Seguin and taught in Lancaster, Milford, Waxahachie, Midlothian, South Oak Cliff and Germany before retiring in the mid-1970s.

Mrs. Still, who served as chairwoman of the House Commission on Education, spent five terms in the Texas House after her election in 1940. In 1956, she received the Texas State Teachers Association Award for her "Outstanding Service for the Improvement of Public Education as a legislator, Classroom Teacher and Professional Leader.' She also wrote The Gilmer-Aikin Bills, A Study in the Legislative Process, which has been used as a text and reference in universities across the nation.

Mrs. Still is survived by several nieces and nephews. Her husband, Forest Still, died in 1956."

I went back into my archives & pulled out the GNO pics from 2005 I had to remove when we ran out of room.  I've reposted them on the GNO pg.  I also posted the one pic we were able to get at Lone Star Park!  All of the GNO pics are shown in order with the most current first and then going all the way back to the first one in Feb 2005!  Enjoy!

Hey all you Grandma & Grandpas . . .  please send me some Grandone pics!!!  My cupboard is bare & I know you got pics just waiting to be shown!!
