Place: LV, TX Comments: Sandy - Thanks for making the call and the update regarding Paul. Glad to hear he's hanging in there, but very sad to hear the news of his grand-daughter's relapse. Will definitely add them both to my prayers. Jim Y. - I haven't spoken directly to JD in several months. But, I recall getting an e-mail failure on some info I sent to SOC '66 Vets a while back, so I texted him. He said it came thru just fine, but I still get the same e-mail delivery failure messages. Also, what's weird is, I'm using Austin RoadRunner (austin.rr.com) and JD's using Wisconsin RoadRunner (wi.rr.com) - why those 2 can't communicate is beyond me - ?
Place: Richardson Comments: I spoke with Paul S. this morning and had a great conversation! This is what's going on with he & his family. His G-dtr Bristol's cancer has returned. She turned 5 a few months ago. She has Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) which is normally in adults. She went into full remission late last year but it returned this year and she is now back in hospital and will be for quite some time. After Paul's stem cell transplant in Aug of last year he began chemo in Sept. He will go every 2 wks for chemo for 2 years. This Sept will be 1 yr. After that they will run tests to see if the cancer is completely gone. Like all of us they are staying home, except for treatments & Dr appt. and praying for some miracles. Paul appreciates the inquiries to his whereabouts and said I could post an update. I will ask that all of us keep Paul and his G-dtr Bristol in our prayers and ask God to help Paul and his family heal. 🙏
Place: Carthage, Texas Comments: Has anyone seen or heard anything from J D Garoutte lately? Just wondering.
Place: LV, TX Comments: SNL - Pls tell Don I said glad he finally got some relief, so he can at least shower by himself now! It'll get better, but everything heals sooo doggone slow these days. When Medicare won't allow your Dr to provide something medically necessary, but will cost-share if you get it with a prescription, you have to wonder who the real beneficiaries are - follow the money ... Jack - You're reading my mind. I've also been wondering about Paul. Like me, he's not on FB, so unless he chimes-in or someone else does, we may ought to consider a health & welfare call.
Place: LV, TX Comments: Shortcake - This week, we're reminding a couple more folks that just because we're semi-isolated, the calendar still catches up eventually ... H a p p y B i r t h d a y wishes go out to Karen Melton Davis for July 22nd and Cathy Wood Nickols for July 23rd! Ladies – Sorry for the delay. We hope Mike and Fred were on their games this week and did their best to treat you right on your special days. Best wishes to you both for many more happy ones!
Place: Richardson Comments: Don said to tell you "Thanks" Susan. He was so excited to take a shower Friday without having to have me put on the plastic sleeve & rubber band. His arm finally got some air & good ol' soap & water!
Place: North Richland Hills Comments: That is such good news about Don getting his cast off! Another step forward! Happy for you, Buddy!
Place: Richardson Comments: At least we have Baseball. I'm sick of reruns & boring shows. 2nd game shortly, Let's Play Ball.
Place: Richardson Comments: Thanks Jim! I know her fingers must hurt and tingle as Don says his do all the time. He can hardly stand to touch several of them. Dr says it due to the long period of being tightly bound in casts and lack of blood flow. I hope Geneva starts getting some relief thru PT and I'm hoping Don will too. It's difficult watching them experience so much pain and you can't do anything about it. At least last night we had baseball and the Rangers won their first official game at the new Globe Life Field!!!!
Place: Carthage, TX Comments: Sandy good to hear Don is making progress. Even though it is taking longer than he would like. Geneva is at Therapy as we type. She is doing well and trying to get movement and strength in her hand. As well as lessen pain. Jack Blackburn’s plant is outside of Jefferson. Our Walmart sells the products here in Carthage. We Live going to Jefferson. A couple from our Church moved to Jefferson and bought the Green Gables Bed & Breakfast. Very nice people. Our Son Jeff and his wife Stormi went about a month ago for a couple of nights.
Place: Richardson Comments: Thanks Jack & Carol. It's been a hard 12 weeks but now that cast is finally off things should get better. Start PT Monday. Jack, didn't know Blackburn's is in Jefferson. Sounds like a good day trip just to get out. We're going stir crazy too. But at least tonight we have Baseball. As Chuck Morgan would say, " Let's Play Ball!! ".
Place: Allen, Texas Comments: Just got on here and saw the posts about Ron Chapman. My family moved to the north end of White Rock Lake in January 1968. Ron Chapman lived across the street from us. I knew he had moved to Florida. Did not know about his health, though.
Place: Sachse TX Comments: Paul, you have been very quiet. Everything OK up there in Indian Territory? Glynda and I took a mental health day this week. Red Plum Jam is her favorite and I have not been able to find ANY at any store in our area. So we went to Jefferson, TX, the home of Blackburn's jam, jelly and syrup. Great little town in east Texas. We went to the outlet store and stocked up. Had a nice lunch at a local cafe and drove back home. We are talking about going back an exploring the town when things get better. Glynda said she didn't know there were that many trees in Texas. Good to get out and see some countyside, cabin was setting in. SNL, glad Don is out of that cast and, hopefully, feeling better.
Place: Overland Park, KS Comments: Sending good thoughts for continued healing for Don. This has been quite an ordeal! Stay safe and well, dear ‘66ers. Love to all. - Carol
Place: Richardson Comments: Today @2:45 we had another visit with Don's surgeon. Finally, after 12 weeks with several different casts on his left arm . . . it came off!! Dr. wanted him to have a brace but, as some of you have experienced, Medicare won't allow the Dr to give you one. Huh?? I asked, can we buy it from you. No, Medicare won't allow that either. He wrote a prescription and we headed out to Preston & Campbell Daugherty's Pharmacy. they didn't have the right one. Sent us to Preston & Royal and they had it. Very nice and did good job fitting it correctly. $32. It was 4:40 by that time & we headed home in the bumper to bumper traffic. Now I've got to get my material ready for the HOA Board meeting at 7pm. We've been doing it via conference call the last 2 months & probably a few months more. Hopefully Don will have a decent night tonight without that heavy cast. Later . . . |
