Comments: I almost didn't go to Gordy's 4th of July Picnic/Get together due to sadness I felt over the passing of my sweet cousin Debbie, but I'm so glad I was encouraged to go and have a good time with friends. It's really important to relish all the good times we can with one another whenever we have the opportunity. I know Debbie would have approved. The water pistol (or should I say water cannon) battle, stuffing ourselves with copious amounts of food and later climbing high up on the brick wall to stand and watch fireworks exploding in the distance was a real throwback to golden days of yore and I'm glad I was there to share it with friends (even if Jack and Bruce cheated!). Many thanks to Gordy for putting on such a great spread and also for the great "doggy bags" we got to take with us.
Comments: I still have water in my ear. Devious...wait a minute I think that was Jack and Bruce. Who knew it was going to be a wet tee shirt contest?![]() ![]() Delicious food...what a spread. Gordy sure knows how to cook that brisket. ![]()
Comments: Hope you all had an enjoyable 4th & it was sunny & dry at your party! it was HOT & WET at Gordy's party!!! After we had all pigged-out on the huge buffet of food & made several passes at the dessert table, Gordy disappeared. When he returned he had lots of water guns from Toys R Us!! As it turned out it was Jack & Bruce against KMG, KRL, Sandra Mc & SNL. There were no rules & only minor injuries. There are several things you learn about your friends when you are in armed battle against your competition! ![]() 1. Karen MG & Sandra Mc don't like to lose & will fight relentlessly to the bitter end!! They are true warriors! 2. There is one place Karen RL won't take her camera . . . into water battle! 3. Thank goodness for waterproof mascara!! 4. KRL may be short, but she comes prepared... she's the only person who brought a change of clothes!! 5. Sandra Mc is very devious... I definitely want her on my team!! 6. If the winners were determined by who was the driest... there were no winners!! If by who was the wettest... we ALL won! 7. Some how the images of "FlashDance" & the water bucket came to mind several times last night! About 9 as we're all sitting in the backyard (couldn't sit in hse, too wet) Gordy brought out lots of sparklers! That was fun!! Then we heard the booming of fireworks going off. We walked around to the street & many of us climbed up on the brick wall & watched several displays from atop the fence. It was a great night & lots of fun with our SOC buddies, who knew we were all still kids at heart. Nothing like a water fight to cool down!!! Now I'm off to the new house, got some doors to help Don hang. Later gang...
Comments: Oh how sad to hear we have lost another lovely classmate. I never knew Debbie in school. But, I learned to love and appreciate her through our reunions and the GB. How sad this is for me and for all of us. She had such a sweet smile and energetic personality. I know we will all miss her very much. I pray for her family and friends. And, I hope we will again lift our glasses high for another classmate at our next mini. She was another special lady.
Comments: Haven't read the GB in ages, clicked on just now and dropped my coffee. I can't believe we lost our little Debbie! I loved that girl since I first met her at Clara Oliver and our church Trinity Heights. What a terrible loss to all who knew her. Debbie was the sweetest ray of sunshine---full of love and happiness. My heart goes out to her family and her cousin Karen MG. Those Melton girls are the best, and Debbie was a shining light among them. God Bless and keep her family. Such sad news.
Comments: The news of Debbie's passing is very sad & unexpected, as we've been reminded 3 times in as many months. Some of us go all the way back to Oliver & Storey with her & cousin Karen MG. She & her immediate family will undoubtedly have the many prayers from all of us, her 'extended family'.
Comments: I was on my computer late last night as I have been busy answering questions about our puppies when I saw an email from Karen MG, and then I read the post from Debbie's son. What a caring son to post the passing of his mother when we know he was in shock...how caring. As Linda said, we all had a lot of laughs that day in OC (Feb. 8), and who would have guessed that five months, she would leave. Our prayers and sympathy go to Debbie's family and to Karen's as well. Debbie loved going to their lake house at Lake Texoma....she was doing what she enjoyed! We will certainly miss her.
Comments: I was so surprised and sorry to hear of Debbie's passing. When Toni, Sandra, Debbie, and I went riding around the areas we grew up in, we had alot of laughs and good times. Debbie talked affectionally about her kids and husband. I don't check the GB Fridays and the weekend much and Sandra called me last night about 10pm to give me the information on Debbie. I am SO SORRY. My prayers are with the family. Don L., I am happy to hear the good news about your brother. I know it it a relief whenever a scan shows no sign of the nasty disease.
Comments: I know we're all in shock after reading Matt Coker's post about his mom, Debbie Melton Coker, passing away last night. Karen MG, Debbie's 1st cousin, clarified the msg & gave us more info in an em to me late last night. I wanted to share it with you. I aslo corrected Matt's post as he was so distraught he put the wrong date. She died last night, 7-3. Our prayers are with her family & you too Karen MG. (see below for KMG's note) "Debbie and her husband were on their way to their lakehouse last night about 8 p.m. last night (July3) where their kids were going to come down for the holiday weekend. They stopped to buy groceries in Sherman and Debbie passed out just outside the car. Her husband tried to perform CPR and someone else came up and tried to assist as well. They called 911 and rushed her to the hospital but she never revived. They determined the skin graft that held the vein together where they put the stint in had separated and her heart just failed after that. Her doctor said he had never seen that happen before. I am still in shock. It's so hard to believe that it happened so fast. They had recently put her on some powerful pain killers due to the extreme pain of the angina she was experiencing. The name of the funeral home is Crown Hill Memorial Park and it's at 9700 Webbs Chapel Rd. The visitation will be Monday and the funeral on Tuesday @ 1 p.m. When I have more specifics, I will let you know."
Comments: Matthew, My heart goes out to you and your family. Debbie always had a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone...a wonderful person who will be missed.
Comments: Matthew, I am sadden to hear of your mother's death. We had a great time a few months ago spending the day driving around our old stomping ground. God bless you and your family . May He give you peace at this time. You are certainly in my prayers. To say the least, I am shocked.
Comments: To whom it may concern, My name is Matthew Coker and my mom's name is Debbie "Melton" Coker. I believe that she graduated in 1966 from SOC. I am sad to say that she passed away July 3, 2008 near our lake house with my dad being right there with her. She will be in the Sunday paper in the Dallas Morning News about funeral details. In the mean time, please contact me if you have any questions, 214-616-1210. Thanks and God Bless!!!
Comments: I just have one question about tomorrow. Is there valet parking?
Comments: We will definitely be there tomorrow but I don't think that Bobby is going to be setting in the Christmas room. I think that is even more cruel then the kidney stones! Jack - I think that you had better be ready
Comments: Gerald, I dated a Sunset girl our SR year and Mike Jacks dated her for a little bit when they went to Texas Tech in Lubbock. Her name was Dinah Tilson and she was a ' 66 Graduate. I believe she was a Bisonette. I had known her and her family for many years. Be out next week for classes in College Station. Hope everybody has a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July. |
