Great old photos, Southworth. I didn't go to that school, but I remember a number of those people from Zumwalt and SOC. I really do enjoy these old photos people share.

Don L., I too recognize Zita Campbell. I had a date with her during my freshman year in college. I always enjoyed sitting by her in classes at SOC. She had a wonderful sense of humor.

JD,
Ah, you are so eloquent.

Don,
The story you told about your sheltie and the cat laying across the threshold was too funny (just like a cat).  One evening I heard my 61 lb. border collie yelping from across the house and I jumped up and went running.  Every time he would try and go out into the hall from my bedroom, our cat Willie (9 lbs.) would jump out at him from across the hall and he would yelp like he'd been shot.  It was so funny, but he was actually afraid of this little cat with no front claws.  Cats have a quirky sense of humor where dogs are concerned.

Yes, we girls had fun yesterday, a good meal, and S & S took lots of pics.  I went home and took a 2 1/2 hour nap.  Having fun is tiring.

Don,

As I recall, you were in Class 6A with the famous Smokey Kimbrough, the infamous Bobby Egan, and sweet Mary Helen Hill among others:

This same link will take you to a site devoted to the Clara Oliver 6th graders of that year. Lots of pics.

I just stumbled on it while doing a search for Frankie P.

JS - I guess those were some of my former classmates in that photo of the Oliver Valentines dance, but I hadn't seen it til now - thanks.

I recognized only Zita Campbell, far right - my date for the 6th grade prom.  I wouldn't have recognized Frankie otherwise & I have no idea  who the others are - Oliver folks?

During those days, Zita & Sarah Dunahoe were both neighbors of Frankie's, on the same block, & Coach Turner lived in the corner house, 3 doors up from ours, along Ramona Ave.

JD, you mentioned a health problem...it must be serious if you think I was serious about placing a bowling trophy next to your bronze star my friend.  Now I'm fairly certain that my good friend Victor Noah would get a kick out of it, but I know where to draw the line on my sometimes twisted humor.

I remember Frankie Petrik as a petite, docile but friendly little girl. It's sad to hear of her passing. And I also remember my cousin Debbie fondly on what would have been her 61st birthday yesterday. Miss you girl.

And I really missed being with my beautiful "sisters" at the girls luncheon yesterday. (I hope Miguel wasn't too devastated. Hah). Hope to see you guys at the mini in Oct.

Happy Anniversary to Susan and Jerry Floyd!

I also rcvd some sad news from David Hamm that we lost another classmate recently - Frankie Petrik Sheppard.  This was confirmed by Terry Flint, whose cousin was her former husband.  Terry would've graduated with us, but left SOC in '65.

Apparently, there was no obituary notice, but Frankie had been living in the Rockwall area.  She was suffering from diabetes and died of a heart attack.  Her remains were cremated and a memorial service was held in Pilltown, near Cedar Creek Lake.

Frankie had 2 sisters, Thelma Petrik (SOC '64), Elizabeth Petrik (SOC '68) & brother, Louis Petrik (SOC '68).  They all lived 1 block down from me, in the 1400 block of Marfa Ave., in the old neighborhood.

I'm trying to contact her son, Dale Ringo (son of Larry Ringo, also deceased), or brother, Louis to confirm her date of death, sometime in early Aug.

Gentlemen, Gentlemen, Gentlemen...and I use that word very lightly and with a small..tiny bit of humerus sarcasm...(RN & JH)...don't you guys understand that I have "BORED" my way through life...just ask my wife, my kids, Jacob my grandson...and all the people I work with...they'll tell you I put them to sleep every chance I get...LOL.

RN...and everyone who is one the website...please...listen carefully...Our 1966 SOC Military Website is for all class members  who served...yes if you have bowling trophies and awards...we will be pleased to display them...and I'm not being funny...also any pictures you may have while in the service. We are planning to post every picture of everyone that sends one...combat or not...that is why I believe this site could easily change almost every week for the next year or more. Partly because people respond slowly and also because we have decided to re-do the "Other Classes" section and add more stuff.

And...regarding the citations. I'm really sorry...as the hyper links have been on the blink...but expect to have them working by Monday...go back and read them...but especially Bob Hook's...it is my belief that the remainder of us that received awards were simply doing our jobs and someone thought differently. But not Bob Hook...he put himself in arms way for his Airborne Comrades and gave his life to safe their life...that is entirely different...and I personally am in total awe of his heroism.

And like I have said...we have good reason to believe that there is at least one more class member that has a citation of a Bronze Star or above...we are just trying to get him to respond...and it has been difficult.

Hope all are well and loving life...

Don L -don't listen to SNL - she won't show up for breakfast - we should just go ahead with our plans to surprise her at her house and raid her cabinets.  If there is no food we can just sit and stare at each other

Jack, don't sell JD short. I've always thought of him as a complete bore.........(jivin' you here JD).  About all the medals and ribbons on the vet site...does a military bowling trouphy count?  Arnold & I won trophies & awards like crazy while bowling in the Navy.  Doin' our part.
