This has been a trying week and after so many days (make that weeks) of contractors in/out and disrupting your life it kinda starts to wear on you.  Linda can relate.  So here's what my my life has bee like lately.

From the day I moved in my 2nd pho line has not worked properly.  So much static I couldn't use it.  After 3 calls to repair and 3 trips by two diff pho guys it was finally cleared!  This took 2 wks.  As soon as I started using it & giving out the # I found out my line wasn't going to Voice Mail after 3 rings... instead it was rolling over to the fax machine!!    In 10 days I turned in 10 trouble reports on this problem but all they wd do is take the report and within 2 to 8 hrs "clear it" as fixed!!  No one ever called me to see if it was fixed or came out.  Finally on Tues I got someone who actually listened to what the problem was & took time to looked at the way it was programmed.  He noticed some irregularities!  Within minutes he removed the unnecessary items and it was fixed!  I was so happy as it had been 31 days and I finally got my line working & also going to VM.  This was at about 4:00 pm. Tue.  But no happy face here....!

At 6:45pm we were in the house moving some boxes & heard all kinds of noises you would associate with a car crash!  We ran to the garage as we thought someone had crashed into one of our cars in the driveway.  Once the garage door came up we looked at our cars and no damage. We looked at the fence and surveyed the situation and felt relived that it must not have been here that it happened.  Then we turned and saw a mangle telephone box that looked like a bomb had hit it!!  The cover was knocked off & lay about 5 ft over in the grass and the guts of the unit were pulled up out of the ground with wires sticking out everywhere and metal twisted like pretzel.   You guessed it....  we lost all pho & DSL service and so did everyone down the block on our side of the alley!!  We saw no one in the alley and we just stood there and stared in disbelief.  I asked Don to call repair as they probably wouldn't accept anymore calls from me.

So, @8:05am Wed AT&T trucks started arriving and by 9 there were 4 trucks.  By 12:30 they had rewired a new control box and had both our lines & DSL working.  That was a good thing.  However, while all the AT&T work was going on outside there was a guy, Thomas, inside putting in the very last item needed to complete the work done by the contractors.  All he had to do was put the two medicine cabinets in the holes that were already cut and pop in a couple of screws.  He did so and left about the same time as all the pho guys.  Aaahh, peace and quite!  I then went to get a cup of coffee and realized the pot was off.  Suddenly the outlet was dead!  When Don got home he discovered it wasn't just one dead outlet, it was all the outlets in all the baths.  The breaker switch was tripped & wouldn't go back on as there was a fault somewhere.  Today, Thur, they sent another guy & Don told them his best guess is the guy put the screw right thru the wire running up the 2x4.  The guy removed the screw Don suspected to be the culprit and he was right.  We reset the GFI & everything worked again!!

It's 4:35pm on Thurs & I still have working pho service as well as DSL.  All the outlets are hot and no one but me is in the house!!!   I have all my appliances installed in the kitchen and it looks so different with all those holes filled up!  They are absolutely beautiful.  We put together the breakfast table last night and it looks great too!  If I still have pho service & DSL tomorrow it will be a new beginning.  There will be no contractors, delivery, repair or installation men in my house for the first time since we moved in one month ago.  The sound of silence will be music to my ears.

Thanks guys...to be honest...I had taken some previous tests...Heart Scan, Treadmill with the Nuclear stuff that makes your body glow in the dark and all were very very negative (as in bad)...in fact the glow in the dark thing said I was a prime candidate for a stroke.

Haven't slept for 3 weeks...worse than wounded in Nam...thought I was gonna die.

Then the Doc says that he got up there and found almost nothing...well he did find some things...Charlene Browning's lipstick, a set of golf clubs, a picture of the TR4 I'm gonna buy next year...a picture of the golf bums...even the one with B Capps wearing the A&M hat, and something very strange...a list of all your names...and McM and Toni's were on their twice...not sure why.

He thinks I was planning on taking all the stuff to Heaven had I died on the table...what a card!!!

I think they were there because I was planning on coming back and haunted all of you.

Thanks for your concern and well wishes...nice to know that the people I have known almost all my life still think I'm worth keeping around.

Now...when is this get together?

Again, JD, I'm glad your checkout was negative, but if gets Rick back to regular posting in the book, then good deal!
Hey Rick, if it was something I said, I'm Sorry!

On the morning of his procedure, JD sent me an early e-mail about things we need to work on for the vets' website.  That sort of thing was not on the tip of my brain stem when I had the carpal cut out of my tunnel recently.  I'm telling you, the guy's walking point on this website & he's serious - obviously!

JD, you big palooka! Don't scare us like that. Thank God no artery blockage. Maybe you're just constipated (another kind of blockage). Get well and that's an order! By any chance did they remove that ornery streak? lol.

JD, I am so glad you are OK, It is good that they didn't find any blockage in your arteries. Lucky for you they didn't do a brain scan. Well I hope you start feeling better soon and go back to work,   mi amigo.
If you do find out what the health problem is, let us know so we can go through it with you. We want to be there for you.

OK, SandyMc, I will comment on the weather.

I love it. Very autumn-like. My favorite season has always been autumn. I love the cooler weather, the smells, the colors, wearing sweaters and jackets. My dogs love it. They don't mind staying outside for longer periods of time. And, I don't feel guilty for not letting them in too soon. This is especially good for me, seeing as I recently inherited two dogs from my elderly aunt. That makes four dogs (ugh) and one house cat.

I only hate one thing about autumn, winter, and spring.....the water in my pool is too cold to swim in. I didn't put a heater on my pool and don't want one. The cost of warming the pool is too high for my checkbook.

JD, glad to hear that you got an "all clear" report from the doctor!

SNL, we're all waiting on the story that wouldn't be funny until after 24 hours....don't keep us waiting!

Hey JD, what's a matter? You run out of vacation days and need a couple of days off so you went to the hospital??  You must not have known that they won't give you a day pass to go to the golf course.
You get out of there. That place is full of sick people and you could catch something. Bet the Doc said get more exercise and loose weight
Glad to hear that you don't have any blockage. Get well soon and don't try to get back to the old grind too quickly. We don't spring back as well as we used to.

JS, reading your comments makes it all sound easy to deal with, but I know it has to be a monumental grind.  Reading about this and seeing photos over a few minutes doesn't compare to what you and all the storm victims are really feeling. I wish you well, and that's from the heart. And since I asked you about Leyman Bros. and the 500+ drop early in the week...another 450 drop. It's just out of control.

Sorry to read about JD. I had an idea he was into something more serious when he stated something about a "health" issue. Take care there, my friend.

JS, if you should hear from the Smiley's, let us know about the damage on their house & how they're doing.  A tree falling on it sounds ominous!   Hope it was a very small one!

No one has mentioned the weather.  I think it is wonderful, I was ready for a change.  The moon has been beautiful for the last two nights, hope some of you saw it.  And the coolness of the air refreshing.
KMG, I bet I have you beat on the post-its.  I have trouble to them sticking to the wrong thing, then I can't find them.

John, KMG beat me to the draw on the question...ouch!  I hope everything goes well for you.  When you mentioned Kemah, I remembered that little town as having some of the best seafood and garlic coleslaw I've ever eaten!  Annette, glad you got to watch the game.  We're glad you're finally home!  I hope the damage assessment is not too bad for Dale and Yuvonne.  I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm ready for a little life in the slower lane....geez!
