Greetings Sandy Mc and all from the west side of the mountain and east of the desert!!!
Made the move just fine and just about to get settled in...at least until I find a house.  For now, I'm back in an apt.  Since they gave me a country club membership and I can play golf/tennis and participate in activities I think I can handle this for a little while.
Weather is beautiful for now.  I hear it get a little "nippy" come winter.  That's what my heavy coats, which I haven't used in a few winters, are for.
If anyone is heading this way, give me a call...same cell from Dallas  214-236-2765 or NM  505-203-1512.
Hope to see you all Nov. 1st.

I am sorry to hear about Jackie Fullington.  It must be hard on her family.  If I remember correctly she and Lamar were a couple since junior high ( maybe earlier?).

Sandy, thank you for what you have so eloquently said about the problem with the homeless.  You summed it all up perfectly.

Susan, I'm sorry I missed your birthday.  I hope you had a good one.  Happy Birthday to you Mr. Burrow.
Apparently the "homeless" is a sore subject.  I have some stories to tell about the Katrina folks as well as the Ike evacuees.  But that was not who I was referring to.  Sally that was a good article, I remember reading it.  Doesn't anyone remember the mental institutions being closed here in Texas a few years back.  That's what put a lot of folks on the streets.  They can't live in society.  By the way Jack the shelters are closed during the day, because they expect people to be out looking for a job.  You see them hanging around cause they want to make sure they get a bed before they're full.  Then there are the people that won't go to a shelter because they have to turn over all their belongings.  I thought alcoholism is an illness, or is it just if in our family?  I certainly agree that some are content being on the street, some have master degrees, some are veterans, and some are to proud to ask for help.  I just think it's ashamed that prisoners are treated better than the homeless.

Jack, you did an excellent job with the "homeless" explanation, and Sally, we know that there are MANY deserving individuals who need help but as the saying goes " one bad apple"....you know the rest!  Bruce and I, along with Karen RL and her hubby helped three families from Katrina and we ended up just shy of being robbed at gun point!  That does leave a bad taste in ones mouth for sure but we still continue to help!

Happy Birthday Mr. Burrow!  Any tractor races lately in East Texas??

Guess who Bruce and I ran into today at Petsmart with our herd of cavaliers?  None other than Lou Ann Richardson!  We talked for some time and I told her I would tell everyone "hello" from her!!  She said she is among the lurkers from time to time!

Sam, so sorry to hear that Sarah's mother passed away.  You all will be in our thoughts and prayers.

SNL, so about breakfast ....let's say, pastries and coffee, at your coffee bar, about 8:00 a.m??  Do you have an elevator or must we climb the stairs???  Bruce says "count us in"!

Pool Guy - Yeah, 6 kids, I guess so.  But remember, he had to go across the state line & find a sweet little LA gal who hadn't been grossed out by his 'good side' at the DQ drive-by.

I can't point too many fingers though, because that's where I met Kathy.  She & Georgene did lotsa chattering at the last mini, so our past may be catching up, courtesy of this SOC gang.

Are you & the mule plowing that 40 acres in Bonham today?

Coasty Don L., I was asked by Coach Norman Jett to take Bay Watch Capps under my wing in the fall of 1965. I told the lad to show those shy ladies his good side, and ask them to cruise Keist Park. He learned well, he's got 6 kids......

Talking about the homeless Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae tried to help out, backed by big brother. Give the two CEO's a big hand and 29 mil BONUS for a job well done from the tax payers 85 + bil dollar bail out. Easy to say homeless needs should be in a local agenda. Mr Grump on TAXES

Susan -- Happy belated birthday!  Hope that you had a great one. I enjoyed getting to talk to you at lunch with you (and the all the other girls) at El Fenix a couple of weeks ago. I know that with this wonderful cooler weather we are having -- it just makes any day better.

Rod and Linda -- Happy Anniversary and many more.

Sarah -- So sorry for the loss of your mother.  Mine passed away 8 years ago and I still miss her every day.  I pray for your healing and your family's loss.

Yvonne -- Glad you had minimal damage to your home, and that your kids are ok.  It's amazing what we humans can do for each other in a crisis-- we can rise to the occasion when called on to do so.

It is good to have water, electricity phone & our internet back up and running. We are home, our children are here with us as they do not have power or water, yet, at their home. They were able to stay with my sister in College Station this past week.  We are amazed at how the clean up is going.  Good people working so hard and such long hours to help get our lives back to normal!  Huge trees uprooted and amazingly - the dead ones that needed to come down are still standing! We have great neighbors that helped us. We still have 2 trees in our backyard that were semi uprooted to deal with - but nothing compared to so many folks. This was a step back in time for our grandchildren.  They learned that life could happen without T.V. and computers.  It brought neighbors together - helping each other.  I wish a very happy anniversary to Rod & Linda. Our son, Bob, just did a show in Eugene, Oregon this past week.  Happy Belated birthday to Susan!! And, J.D. - I'm sorry you were having problems- glad nothing was discovered. Sam & Sarah, I'm so sorry for your loss.  This G.B. moves quickly & I know that I've missed some important news - & will try to catch up later. Stay safe -& have a great weekend.

J D my rowdy boys are coming to Lambeau Sunday nite. I know you will wear the silver and blue in that ugly crowd of Cheesy Heads. After the Boys Win I know the good folks of the tUNDRA will show the best side of the moon as a Lambeau tradition as the visitors bus leaves Lambeau.

Talking about the moon : i remember McGee driving in circles around the DQ while i mooned the patrons. i don't think McGee was a stable person in those days.

Thank you all for the birthday wishes!  They just made my day!

The only thing about the homeless bothers me is when cities decide they need to get "those people" off the street, meaning the homeless are an embarrassment.  I agree that some of them are there because they want to be, but they don't bother anyone too much, do they?  Talk about elitist!
