Comments: KarenMG is the first with the correctomundo answer on Strother Martin. She wins an evening of dining and dancing with Strother, not to exceed $19.95 in value. I was looking for a video clip of Strother, but got distracted by this classic scene. If you can tear your eyes off "Lucille", see if you can spot a young Dennis Hopper in the bar-ditch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aO3aWRUmoSs
Comments: I vote for Hud and The Hustler as Paul Newman's best acting. However, I really did like Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
Comments: "Cool hand Johnny" "BINGO ! since ur from the US of A but can you shoot" Percy Garris in Butch and Sundance played Caption in Cool Hand Luke all behind the face of Mr. Martin. Butch and Sundance is the best movie ever made, Hud was his best acting work on my side. Newman's Own is my salad dressing that Geo my wife buys. I know the money we spent over the many years was in good hands. He was a King of Men
Comments: Strother Martin uttered that quote. He also had a role in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid with Newman as well. Great character actor.
Comments: Back in 1967 I was approached by my good friend Stu Rosenberg about the idea of playing the title role in his movie "Cool Hand Johnny". Unfortunately, I was three weeks away from leaving for Basic Training at Fort Ord, CA. The part eventually went to Paul Newman, the movie was released with a slightly different title and the rest is history. I coulda been a contender! Okay, today's Paul Newman Movie Quiz: Name the actor who made famous the following phrase ... "What we've got here is ... failure to communicate". (be sure to say it with the proper twangy tone)
Comments: I have more than one favorite Paul Newman movie ... The Verdict, Absence of Malice, The Sting, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Color of Money. And probably a few of the less well known ones that I can't remember the names of.
Comments: CNN.com has the following question posted: What is your favorite Paul Newman film?
Comments: RN- The Bushman is looking good almost twice as good as the Nance and Harry's lead of 535 voted in policy makers in DC. Once again who is going to weed out the crooks and scammies, hold the cost and keep us safe. DL- bests make that a fleet of boats. we just need a leader with common sense and a heart for the people that's all !!!
Comments: Don, I just read about Paul Newman. I read that he had cancer, but was still surprised. It is a shock!
Comments: A sad shocker - I didn't know he was ill: http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/Movies/09/27/paul.newman.dead/index.html
Comments: Don...for the most part you're right. I'm really not all that political (the 76% was referrring to Bush's 24%+- approval rating).
Comments: I think that boats going to need a designated captain. There ain't gonna be any tea party goin on.
Comments: JD - I wouldn't swear to it, but I think RN sees your chain hanging out & is already yanking on it. He's prior-Navy, like you, & knows as well as most of us that McCain cannot operate a PC - not because he's a techno-dunce, but because permanent 'Hanoi Hilton' injuries prevent him from typing & other tasks requiring manual dexterity. He & Obama are otherwise worlds apart on most things political, but neither is a run-away candidate. Many folks I've spoken with have a hard time believing that these are the best choices our system can offer. I think a majority of voters are stuck in the middle, wishing we had 3 or more choices; some of them also wish we had a 1-person, 1-vote system, instead of all the caucuses, primaries, conventions, delegates, electoral college, blah-blah, etc. – they don’t call them ‘parties’ for nothing.
I haven't heard 76% used in any serious claim that included what American voters favored, with the possible exceptions of: (1) overwhelming use of military force to ensure mission success & prompt return of our troops home w/o further political delays; (2) seriously securing our borders & enforcing immigration laws; (3) doing away with political parties, voting on issues only & converting all political jobs to civil servants who will carry out the will of 'we the people' - or be fired & replaced immediately (not 4 yrs later); & (4) redistribute that $85B (as in Billion & Bailout) amongst our legal citizens who paid those taxes to serve their country - not the 'good old boy network' (includes politicians, lawyers, lobbyists & big business), social 'deadbeats' (foreign & domestic) & a catch-all for anything/anyone/anywhere living off our leg illegally – well past time to twist the t*t shut!
OK, I guess that makes me fair game now for not taking SNL's advice & holding my g/b tongue. I would, however, Pool Guy & Buddy, be proud to sail that boat (or flotilla of boats) into the Potomac & carry-out the new T-Party (as in Take your sorry a**es out of here or we'll Toss ‘em overboard)! ~ Your Commodore-in-Waiting ![]()
Comments: Memo To McGee: I believe you are right about the likelihood of there being a third political party here in four more years. However, by then China will pretty much have bought us out for mere yuans on the dollar and our future taxes will be shipped off to our new leaders in Beijing. Our grandkids will be taking lessons in Mandarin, and you and I will be able to stretch our retirement incomes due to the relatively low cost of rice and the substitution of bicycles as a primary means of transportation. We will sip our tea together and whisper of the days when we worried so much about the backward Muslims that we didn't notice the far greater high-tech threat from the Orient.
Comments: My fellow Americans, just remember my dear friends, there will be a major 3rd political party in this country in 4 years. It started with a boat full of Oak Cliff hard heads on a vessel piloted by Coasty Don L., lead by a pool guy that can't make a 3 ft. putt. Just call me if you need me...... |
