Comments: I am conflicted on the auto industry "bailout". It is truly one of the few manufacturing industries we have left in America, which I think is tragic. We are very close to having everything we buy being produced overseas. That makes us extremely dependent on the rest of the world for everything. It has been reported that there are about 3 million jobs (directly and indirectly) that will be affected. There are a lot of small companies that provide parts and services for the industry. The average cost for a hourly worker outside the auto industry in the US is about $28.00 an hour. The cost for an auto worker outside the "big three" is $48.00 a hour. For the big three workers it is about $78.00. These are not "skilled" workers. I think the big three need to go through chapter 11 so they can rework all the contracts that are killing them and causing a $20K car to cost $30K. At the same time, management pay has to be capped. No bonuses, no golden parachutes and no "traveling meetings".
Comments: Any ex-military or hunters or sharpshooters interested in forming a company to provide escort services to the shipping lines? Riding ships through the Gulf of Aden, defending against pirates. No bag limits or license required!
Comments: Just looked at the new grandones -- Louis and Donna, great looking little ones. They have beautiful smiles. Aren't grandkids just so soft and squishey to squeeze and love.
Comments: Toni - The judge in the court room was Susan Hawk. Very attractive -- short stylish hair cut, bleached light blonde. Judges have changed (along with everything else). Since I was sitting on the back row in the court room, I couldn't exactly gage her age, but I figure in her 40's. Anyway, the whole "criminal" experience was interesting and an eye-opener. John S - it took me a few seconds to do the math on Dale's son -- he'd probably like the zoo, too.
Comments: New first-time Grandones are posted. Take a peak on the Pride & Joy pg!
Comments: Charlene and Bovie - I am so sorry to hear about your Mom. Please know that you are in my prayers and I am thinking about you.
Comments: I've been busier than a one-armed paper-hanger today! John S, thanks for sending the pictures. Looks like a lot of fun was had by all! Bovie and Charlene, please accept our condolences. Please know that you'll be in our thoughts and prayers. Linda P., those expensive interpreters can be requested by a Defendant, and we taxpayers foot that bill. What a country!
Comments: Jack - One question was asking to name 3 prominent people that you do not admire (not being family, friends). In answer to that I named Madonna, Ted Kennedy, and Rev. Jeremiah Wright. On the spot, that's the best I could come of with. They asked about if judging a person should should include their background, genetics, environment, upbringing, etc.) Without saying no, I wrote that after a person is grown that they decide which road to take. One question was whether a law enforcement officer told the truth more, less, or the same as the average person. I said the same as the average person. When the prosecuting attorneys talked to the jury pool about that, some folks started law enforcement officers less than regular folks and it was due to some experience with the police. There were other questions, too about me/relatives being in jail, charged with a crime, deferred adjudication. Has anyone in my family been in law enforcement. It was an interesting and enlightening day. I don't think I'll ever be chosen for a jury, too white.
Comments: I'm here too. I've been pondering Linda's post about the questionnaire. What other questions are there? What happens if you do not answer them? I think we should not answer any questions except those regarding the requirements for jury duty. I hate all the time they waste, including "shopping for jurors" at the courthouse. I think I have posted my opinions on this before, so I'll quit now.
Comments: Rick, I'm still here too. Last week I had coffee with Dale and his 420 month old son Brian. They're so cute at that age.
Comments: Rick -- I'm here; just had lunch. What a beautiful day. Friday, I went to the Dallas Zoo with a friend and her 23 mo. old granddaughter. It was a great day to be outdoors.
Comments: Testing Testing 1..2..3 Testing 1..2..3 Yep the guest book still works. Where is everyone?
Comments: Charlene and Bovie -- Charlene I'm so sorry in the loss of your mother, but it's comforting to know that your mother is not in pain any longer. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this sad time. I was on jury duty all day today in the criminal courts. It was a murder trial, but not a capital murder trial. When we first got in the court room, all the lawyers were standing and there was a Mexican man sitting with headphones on his head. At first I wondered why he was wearing headphones, but it was quickly explained that he was the defendent on trial and that he could not speak English, so there was an interpretor sitting behind him speaking into a device translating everything said to the young man. As for the questionnaire I filled out in the court room, would a lawyer choose someone that listed Laura Bush, Billy Graham, and Oprah Winfrey as 3 prominent people that they admire? I wasn't chosen for the jury.
Comments: Charlene and Bovie, You are in my thoughts and prayers. It is never easy to lose a parent.
Comments: Love and sympathy to Bovie and Charlene in the passing of her mom. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. |
