Mike Fugate, if you're still reading the GB, I just want to thank you for your heart-felt note. Took me three tries to get through it. We all feel quite emotional about Brandon.

We all love your parents dearly. I really don't know them all that well; but I have always had great respect for them...even when we were in school. They are good folk. And, just know that our love for one another extends to their families, as well. So, you are also special in our hearts.

I have no doubt that Brandon is in Heaven and loving every moment of it. He comes from a good family who I know taught the love of our Lord to him.

We are still praying for the recovery of Brandon's earthly body and pray that you take great comfort knowing where your fine son is now.

I hope you will come with your parents to one of our upcoming mini-reunions. I would love to meet you. Please give your parents our love. They are such strong Christians.

OK, everyone. Watch out if you are driving in Duncanville. The dreaded Gary Dagley might run you down.

Connie and I had some business finishing up the sale of my aunt's car to one of the managers of Golden Corral in Duncanville, today, and decided to eat there. Who was walking out of the Defensive Driving class there? You guessed it. Our own Speed Demon Dagley. I saw him walking through the restaurant (I think to leave) and when he looked my way, I pointed at him. He did a pretty big double take, never expecting to see me there. I told him we brought a gun to protect ourselves. haha!

We had a short, but very nice visit. You just never know which SOCite you will run into.

Gary, you're a fine man. I am glad I know you.

By the way, I was walking through Grace Presbyterian Village (on Ann Arbor) and saw our own Mr. Manton eating lunch. I started to go into the dining room to say hello; but, I didn't want to interrupt his lunch and was in a hurry to get my aunt and take her to the dentist. Next time, I think I will go ahead and interrupt his lunch for a few moments. I never had him as a teacher (wish I had), but did get to know him some when he worked at The Dallas Morning News one summer. Probably the nicest teacher at SOC for MANY years.

What an amazing person Don Gaines was, so kind, so gentle, and so loved. It is painful to think of all the good people we have lost from our group.
My heart goes out to Brandon's family, such a terrible loss of a young hero trying to save his friends, he certainly comes from good stock.
Ada, bless you girl, you're getting your little grandbaby girl, and congratulations for your 38 years of sweet loving marriage.
JD---big hearted guy---hang in there baby---your candles are burning.
Sandy Joe---be strong brother, you are a rock to your family and friends.

Was sorry to hear of Don Gaines passing. It's my loss that I did not know him, but so many of you classmates did, and have said many wonderful nice things about him.  My condolences to his family.

JD -- Glad that you are doing better.  It won't be long before you'll be shoveling snow again.  It sounds like there is a lot of it up there, too.  Here, yesterday, it was a very warm and beautiful day; got some work done in my garage and finalized Christmas shopping.  Now time for wrapping.  I wish my dogs and cats could wrap.  Toni, have you taught your dogs to wrap?  If so, let me know how you did it.

To all the men who will carry Don Gaines tomorrow...you will be carrying one of the finest men I have ever known...he was unselfish, big hearted, and strong like a bull...and not once have I ever heard him complain about or regret the curves that God kept throwing his way.

If I could get there...I'd help...but will say a prayer and light a candle tomorrow for our friend.

And thanks for your thoughts in fighting this health issue I have been dealing with for some 10 weeks...my artery was 80-90% blocked and we found it by accident...the heart surgeon that did the work advised me that I am one lucky man...but I knew that with friends like you...

So sorry to hear of Don's passing.  Like Susan, I did not know him personally, but always recognized his smiling face as he went from class to class at SOC.  Prayers go out for Virginia and his family as they go through this time.

I'm very sorry to hear of Don Gaines' passing, as we all are.  He & I go all the way back to Oliver & Storey before SOC.  I posted a note in the DMN obit guest book for his family & Virginia.

Regrettably, I'm committed here today & tomorrow; otherwise, I'd head up there to attend Don's funeral & offer to help pallbearers.  My older son, Greg, is coming home from Iraq (again) Sat., so my thoughts & prayers will be with those at Laurel Land.

Carolyn Hill...I've thought of you so many times.  I remember our treks to the musicals and somehow I remember your mother putting ammonia on the stove to remove the smells in the kitchen...what a memory!  Great to hear from you.

Shortcake phoned me to tell me about Don Gaines.  I read his obit in the paper this morning.  Jack/Sandy, please convey my sympathy to his family and to Virginia.  Through all the adversity, he always had a smile on his face.  What an honor for the SOC guys to serve as pallbearers.

As you all know, I lost my oldest son in 1984, two weeks before Christmas, and for the most part, I have kept myself in check through the years, but there has been so much sorrow this holiday season that I find myself in tears each and every day. There are not enough words to express the sorrow I am feeling for everyone who has lost a loved one recently, or may be losing a parent, or even encountering unexpected illness during this holiday time.  My heart goes out to you and your families, and please know that you are remembered in my thoughts and prayers.

Happy Jack, Bruce and I are the happy parents of five beautiful Cavalier King Charles Spaniels who allow us to live with them - Duchess, Lexie, Prince, Clancy and Lady!  Why do you ask?

Go Cowboys - SNL - HD/Plasma brings them right into your living room....best seat in the house...
