Comments: Mr. Nance...thanks for catching my glitch on Tommy Sorrell...I have made the necessary corrections on the Military site...please go and review...then send me more complete info on you and Mr. Arnold so I can complete your pages. Thanks again. Ada...thanks for the candle lite and happy anniversary to you and Joe...I'm getting better but my neck is now a size 28 instead of a 17.5...sound like my waist size as a sophomore...LOL
Comments: Toni - can't remember if we were or not.....it has been way too long.
Comments: Shortcake, weren't we in Rainbow with a Barbara Gaines? That name surely rings a bell! It's always a good feeling to connect the dots with all of our families. Linda P, haven't quite figured out how to get the dogs to wrap the gifts but they will have no trouble tearing up all of the wrapping paper when it's all said and done! If you haven't heard, Bruce is the gift wrap expert in the family...you should see his handiwork! We're down to our last gift to wrap...and after shopping and wrapping gifts for nine grandchildren, we're pooped! Ada, better late than never....belated anniversary wishes to you and Joe! Merry Christmas to one and all....
Comments: Thank you all for our anniversary wishes. We spent Friday evening driving to Boston in a blizzard to pick up Joe's Mother. It snowed all weekend and we have over a foot on the ground....plus it is colder than a witch's *** in a castiron ***. Baby, it's cold outside. My Texas sis in law sent us some cake balls....have you had them....I had to send them to the office to get them out of the house.....yummy!
Comments: Thanks Jack for finding out Don's bro was younger and his name was Darwin. I know Jyou will definitely remember that name!!! Yes JS, Barbara Gaines is Don's sister & was from the Cl of '62... I met her Fri nite at the visitation. Geeezzz it was cold tda while I was doing all my last minute errands and buying groceries!!! I felt like I was frozen by the time I got all the bags brought in & the car unloaded.
Comments: Ada, I hope you and Joe are staying safe and warm!
Comments: Thanks for the Gaines info, Jack. I see Barbara Kay Gaines in the Class of '62 Den.
Comments: Don's brother was younger and was named Darwin. Don's sister, Barbara, was from the class of 62 or 63. As far as I could gather he was not related to Bruce. While it seemed very strange to see Don and him not smiling, he did look at peace and out of pain. Bovie, did you ever get your toilet set back in the bathroom?? Was it setting out on the lawn?? Understand you are now an EXPERT on the effects of dental floss on plumbing systems!! Any advice for the rest of us??
Comments: Just got caught up today on the GB. Been in California since the 17th and not returning home until New Years Eve. Hope this finds more of our SOC friends well. If not, may the ailing get well soon. Condolences to all of our lost ones families at this time of the Christian season that is supposed to be a time of celebration. I know it's hard to celebrate those who have passed, but I'm sure they are all waiting for us with anticipation just as much as we miss them. God's blessings and a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all.
Comments: Thanks John. Give it a week or so & I'll ask Virginia again What Don's brother's name was and I bet she'll remember.
Comments: Regarding Harlie Bruce Gaines, Class of '63: My gut feeling is that Bruce G. and Don G. are NOT related. I've hiked all over the internet trying to find any sort of connection between the two. Found nothing. Bruce died in Jan. 2001. He was living in the Waco area and was the Executive Director of the Central Texas Economic Development Board (or something roughly similar to that). My best Bruce story is this: back at SOC he and Harmon (Jud) Caldwell were members of the tennis team. May 1963 rolled around and they both graduated but had no funds for college. The days of summer clicked along. Their futures looked questionable. Midsummer 1963, Jud gets a call from Bruce saying "Hey, I hear they're having tennis team tryouts at North Texas State tomorrow - why don't we run up to Denton and check it out". Both Bruce and Jud tried out and apparently did well. They each were admitted to NTS in the Fall with tennis scholarships! Bruce changed both their lives that week.
Comments: Kathleen, I don't know if Bruce & Don Gaines were brothers or not. If Bruce is still alive, then no, they aren't brothers! I know from early conversations with Don that his older brother died in about 2004 (?), but I don't remember his first name though. I asked Virginia when I saw your post on '63 GB, but she was kind of confused at the time and couldn't even remember Don's deceased brother's first name either. I think this is a question for our friend with the great memory & whose expertise crosses all the SOC classes - - John Southworth! How about it JS, Was Bruce Gaines related to Don?? But like I said, if Bruce is alive.... he isn't Don's bro! So can you help us here???
Comments: Ada Ann and Joe, I hope you young lovebirds celebrated like it's 1970! Congratulations!!!
Comments: Ada Ann, Happy Anniversary to you and Joe. Hope your day has been full of surprises. Ronnie, to answer your question, I don't know what happen to Dorthea Ashurst, They moved before graduation but I can't remember where.
Comments: I asked this question on the '63 website, but no one seemed to know the answer. Was Don Gaines related to Bruce Gaines from the class of '63? Bruce and I were in several classes together and he too was a very sweet guy. My sympathy to all of you. |
