Comments: Very impressive John. The singing was beautiful & the words hit home. Good site with some informative links. Have you marked your calendar yet?? 6-13-09!!!
Comments: Here's a catchy tune making its way around: http://www.bornagainamerican.org/
Comments: Toni, the club was fascinated with "Magic Zumwalt Memories" there's a movie there! We even have the film makers to do it. Sally your golden spirit is definitely part of the beauty of those days of heaven. And Toni's "Big A** Cadillac Cruising" MUST be documented!
Comments: Don L, I like that....virtual neighborhood...makes me feel closer to all of you
Comments: I sorta wish we all still lived in a well-established neighborhood & could've simply picked up where our parents left off. We see that sort of thing in a lot of movies that feature close-knit communities. It would be a great place to call 'home' & return to, regardless of how far away you went or how long you stayed gone. The one thing I missed most about serving in the military for 30 yrs was being constantly on the move & not really belonging to any neighborhood that I felt comfortable in. Plus, my sons weren't able to experience that, altho they got along just fine wherever we went & attended several schools along the way. At least, we all are very fortunate to have this website & g/b as the next best thing - our virtual neighborhood. SNL: Can't stop saying it enough, I guess - thanks again for bringing us home!
Comments: Yes JS, that large housing edition from TL Marsalis and down to Loop 12 was Singing hills. NOt sure what those right around TL wre called. In fact the main street coming off Loop 12 and leading into the edition was name "Singing Hills Drive". I think it still is! Wagon Wheel was the first street off of Singing Hills and that's where Vincent Chase, Wayne Pennington & Donnie Fugate lived. On up to the next st is where Beverly Love lived and the list of friends goes on and on. All my friends lived there except me. I lived on down Loop 12 just past Glendale Park on Kildare. Me, Janice Horner, Gordy Johnson & Mario Fuentes lived on Kildare as well as Gary Penn & John Prasifka from '67 & Michael Collins from '64. And yes, there are lots of great memories of playing in the street and just hanging out after school. Days gone by. . .
Comments: Tony, was Glen Oaks on the other side, west of the highway? Were the two neighborhoods on both sides of Marsailis called Glenview? Then we also had Glendale, as in the shopping center and the swimming pool--and the Presbyterian Church. Lots of Glens!! Never realized that !
Comments: John - I believe it was Glenview. Farther west was Glen Oaks.
Comments: Sally - you should have been here to take the trip down memory lane last February with Sandy McM, Linda P, Debbie Melton Coker, and me! I will remember that day for a long time to come! We had the best time driving down all the streets around T. L. Marsalis and all over OC. We were shocked with all the "No Guns and No Drugs" signs posted around all of the elementary schools - John Neely Brown, Lisbon, etc. What an eye-opener! Barbara, why don't you join in on the fun in June. You'll have a great time! Annette - you go girl! Don't tell all of our secrets!! ![]() Ada Ann, sounds like your doctors have the plan all set! Best of luck with all of the treatments.
Comments: It must be the same Don and Ron Radke that lived on Brownlee. I didn't realize they, too, moved south. Around 1956 my family moved to Calcutta Dr. (next door to McGee's favorite newspaper client, Ken Blackburn). Does anyone recall what they called that general area surrounding T.L. Marsalis? Smiley keeps telling me it was "Singing Hills", but I maintain Singing Hills was further to the east of Marsalis. Also, looking at a recent Google map, I notice Rocky Ridge now runs all the way from Laureland to Loop 12. Back in my time, it seems like it was only about two blocks long then dead-ended?
Comments: McGee, don't be so hard on yourself, you're just half right...you weren't duds (that's an old play-on-words joke). Jack, I saw the obit on Molly Bee & her picture in the NYTimes...I don't remember Lee having a sidekick at all....but she sure was a cutie and also was the 13 year old that first recorded "I Saw Momma Kissin' Santa Claus"
Comments: Professor Southworth, Don Radke is a Art Professor at University of North Texas. His brother Ronnie played football at West Texas State. Don ran with Dennis Bishop. Don and I were buds at T.L. Marsalis. He was a good athlete but lost interest in football. Too creative, and intelligent to hang with a bunch of dumb football duds.
Comments: Jack...I know, I know...was on the road and tired... Dennis Bishop told me, a few months ago, that Don Radke lives in Denton...a teacher I think but into art...doing well. He and Dennis were best of friends.
Comments: Anybody remember Pinky Lee's sidekick?? She was also a regular on Tennessee Ernie Ford's show and recorded a duet with him. I bet if you saw a picture of Molly Bee you would remember her. She died of complications following a stroke. She was 69. What a gal!
Comments: I remember in the hood a little girl that showed no mercy playing the big boys at ping pong. Slammed me every time and I was good (or thought I was). A true athlete with the ping pong table in the garage Adair Crocker |
