Comments: Wow, lots of late night posts! Congrats to Don & Kathy yesterday on 13 yrs!! Ya'll were meant for each other! Ada Ann - You had some different items not listed before, like bursting tar bubbles wit your toes in the street during a hot July or August day!! What fun! And the precious little horny toads. Used to love to find them in the back yard, put them on their back and rub their tummies. It made them go to sleep!! Don't worry about emailing me the list, I'm copying & pasting them out of the GB. There are some fantastic memories being listed & I'm seeing a few common threads on all of them. Oddly enough we haven't heard from our jocks, did those football injuries erase your memories!!
Comments: Happy Anniversary to the two wonderful couples! Sandy Mc....at Restland, do you remember getting a Nativity Scene at Christmastime...to put together? Here is my list....not necessarily in order: Fried Bologna sandwiches Horned toads Popping tar bubbles on hot days Tying string on a June Bug's leg and watching it fly around Chamelons at the Fair Watching stars and Sputnick at night Walking to school Allies...we don't have them up here Looking at lights on Christmas Eve Being totally dependent
Comments: I didn't read my post till after I posted! The Cameo Cookies, I'm sure it didn't make since. For some reason when I see them in the grocery store, it reminds me of going to the cemetery. I guess we must have bought some at one time and took them with us. I know I'm crazy. I think I made another mistake and posted our instead of out. Good night
Comments: Congratulations on your anniversaries  you two lovely couples.Don, has your son arrived home yet? Please tell him for me that I am very proud of our military and the sacrifices they make. Jack, why were you wet from head to toe, if you claim victory  Thank you guys for sharing your top ten here. Although SNL said to email her, I think it's fun to post it here so we can all share our memories. The top ten will be interesting. Bobby, I forgot about Kip's. I loved their milkshakes, I think they were call frosties. My top ten turned into 20, and like I said I could keep going. One other that I don't think anyone mentioned is the snow cone stand on Saner. Rainbow or Coconut was my favorite. Another was going our to Restland where my Grandaddy was buried across from Wildwood Chapel. We, my sister and I would play by the pond and feed the ducks and for some reason the Cameo Cookies how blessed I was with a loving family and friends. The greatest blessing is to love, and the second greatest is to be loved. Another late night at the hotel and I am trying to wind down. Richard, next month I will be in Californis at Half Moon Bay. My daughter is getting married at Oceano Hotel. Any thoughts of where to stay that is reasonable. I can't even get a discounted with Intercontinental Hotels. I will be staying a the resort for two days, but no longer. It's too $$$$$. Jack, you better start working out!!!   And Toni, you better decide which side your on.

That was 6 months before I retired from the CG in ’96. We’ve been home ever since & it’s been great!

Comments: Well, being a tad older than you guys, here is my list of indelible childhood memories: 1. Lining up for polio inoculations in elem. school 2. Sitting in chewing gum at the Wynnewood Theater 3. Hearing my dad tell me to "pull weeds til you get a blister" 4. Trips to Dr. Hamby, the dentist 5. Coach Warren rapping my hand with a ruler at Russell Elem. 6. Breaking my right arm, falling off a swing set at the Radke's 7. Inviting Nancy Bronar to the 7th grade Valentine Dance and being told "Robert Baker already asked me" 8. Enduring yet another Tetanus shot after cutting my elbow when Jimmy Holland jumped on a long rusty pipe that careened up and hit me 9. Being promised ice cream, only to find that it was conditioned first on the surprise removal of my tonsils 10. Receiving 30 days of detention hall for running away from home (and school) for two days, 3 weeks before SOC graduation Ah, times were good.
Comments: Here's my list: 1. Glendale Pool 2. Wee St. Andrews miniature golf course 3. Crest, Lisbon, Wynnewood, & Texas theaters, especially when they showed monster movies 4. Shopping on Jefferson Avenue 5. Playground at W.W. Bushman Elementary School 6. Playing outside at night on the 2700 block of Wilhurt Avenue 7. "Camping" out in the backyard with neighborhood kids in the summer. 8. Getting a chicken at Easter when you bought shoes at Levine's 9. Deerpath and Glendale shopping centers 10. Spending all of my money on candy and soft drinks at Cabell's convenience store down the street from Bushman Elementary. AND, OF COURSE, SOC HIGH!!!!

Comments: Oh please Jack - my hair was so wet that if I had a bottle of shampoo with me I could have gone ahead and washed it right there!
Comments: O.K. Here you go... 1. Deerpath Pool (Ada's Mom and Mike Malone's Dad ran the pool in the summer. 2. Glendale Pool 3. Singing Hills Riding Stables (Sandra Gorman's family owned it) 4. South Loop Drive In 5. Crest Theater (Left side downstairs) 6. Chester Clinic 7. My Grandmothers Peach, Apricot and Plum jelly's and preserves from our Orchard. 8. Jack Hawkins and I sneaking out of Church on Sundays. 9. Our Farm...even though I hated cutting and bailing the hay at the time AND FINALLY 10. All the girls I thought "I was In Love With"...at least 1 or 2 of them

Comments: Here is another perfect example of being a gentleman gets me in trouble. I didn't shoot the girls in the head because; 1. I know how much they HATE getting their hair wet! 2. I thought it was impolite to shoot in the face. Now that doesn't leave many other areas to shoot. While I was wet from the top of my head to my feet. And I was wearing shorts! Go ahead with the marsh-mellow guns. What are you going to do when we eat all your ammo?? Wonder if they still sell those ping pong ball guns??
Comments: Apparently only 7 of us have great memories of growing up in Oak Cliff... cuz I only got a Top 10 ( or more) List from 7 people!!!! Thank you to Jack, Toni, Karen Pearson, Rod, Sandra, Donna Rexroat & me for posting a list! |
