Comments: Don and Barb, what a wonderful, positive way for Michael and all your family to get past the wrenching pain of your terrible loss. It is a wonderful and much needed project that you all have undertaken and you have my support. Love you all.
Comments: Donna, Richard: Which one of A. Harris parking lots did you use?? Dad would take me to the "detached" one on Overton Road to practice driving. It was away from the shopping center and no one was ever there. Only thing you had to watch out for was the light poles. Thanks for reviving that memory. Haven't thought about that for years. Dad was a traveling salesman and had his own rights and wrongs for driving. Since we had automatic transmission cars, he believed that it was faster to use your left foot for braking. Back then, doing that during your driver test would get you failed.
Comments: Donnie, you did a great job on designing and creating the website! It is very moving! Thank you for letting all of us, your friends, be a part of this.
Comments: Donnie and Barbara, the BMF Project is such a great idea! I've wanted to do something for you guys but didn't know what. This gives me a way to contribute something. You talked about how tirelessly the rescue teams worked to find Brandon. With more money, they'll be better equipped for their work. Please let Michael know how much this opportunity is appreciated. Love you both!
Comments: As most of you know, we lost our grandson last November when he drowned in Lake Ray Hubbard and was not found until 29 days later. Through these trying times we have gone through, our son Mike had wanted to do something that could turn this tragedy into something positive and could give back to the many volunteers that aided in the recovery of Brandon. To that end, we have set up The BMF Project, a non profit organization, to raise funds to give help to these volunteers. We hope to be able to provide needed equipment to these Search and Rescue organizations that will enable them to do what they do better. We hope you will visit our website www.thebmfproject.org. Be sure to check out the events page. All you folks wih boats should join in on the fun activities sponsered by TexasBoating Magazine.Or come see us at one of the events, even if you don't have a boat. A portion of the money raised is being donated to The BMF Project.
Comments: Donna, I liked your #7. I'll bet most here learned to drive in that parking lot on Sundays...at least you & I did.
Comments: Sandy I filled out the contacts page...that info is only good for 10 more days...let you know when I get home...I had so many more memories but i didn't want to take up too much space...thanks everyone for making me feel so welcome...hope everyone is well
Comments: Donna thanks for your list of memories! Please send me your current add & a contact #. When you move you can update it again. Go to the Update Your Info pg here on the site or send to me direct. I too loved A Harris shopping Center. Louis Langford and I used t go there on Sat nights for their dance contests! We would practice several hours at my house on Sat before one of our parents took us up there. This was back in elementary sch in 5th & 6th grade, Louis and I used t go-steady back then! He gave me a ring on Christmas and I used to wear it around my neck. I still have that ring in my jewelery box!! No kidding! Now that's a great memory!! Another wonderful memory is making homemade ice cream. The kind you make from scratch and cook on the stove. After it cooled you poured it into the freezer container and added the ice and rock salt around it & cranked! When it froze you took out the blade, put the top back on & then cover it with a quilt until after supper. Some of the best ice cream I ever ate was homemade in our back yard!!
Comments: Sandy, I really enjoyed reading your list and even more than that the one in my head as I thought about what i remembered most. So here goes.... 1. Long evening walks with my granny and my friends. Never occured to us to be frightened and we were walking in our baby doll pj's. Not my granny though. 2. Friday night dances at the Beckley/Sanger gym. 3. Going to the Crest and never really seeing the movie because we were all cutting up to much. 4. Being a Boude Storey Eaglette and strutting my stuff for my school. 5. A greasy hamburger from the freezette. 6. A bunch of us kids decorating our car with tons of crepe paper getting ready for the big game. And they were all big remember. 7. Learning to drive in A Harris shopping center parking lot. 8. Fair day and riding the bus with all my friends and having the time of our life. 9. Tuesdays at Daughtery's Pharmacy when the new Teen Magazine came out. 10. Shopping for new school clothes at all the stores on Jefferson. Just to let you wonderful people know that everything i did with all my friends is a wonderful memory but the brain is getting older and can not remember like it should...all of you have a great day
Comments: Well John, although your guesses were very interesting, they were not the one I was thinking about! Can you believe it will be 5 yrs on Sat since the SOC 66 website was launched!!! My, were has the time gone!
Comments: SNL, one can safely assume that the March 14th Special Event is the annual celebration of the birthday of the idiosyncratic David Byrne of Talking Heads: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmEBlrRRMBQ Or possibly Don will slap a saddle on you and begin singing "Wildfire" in honor of Michael Martin Murphey's day of origin? Is either guess close?
Comments: SNL Well, I took you're advise and ripped one. The ladies around me are throwing things over my cube wall at me. MC Gee, not being the athlete like most of you guys, I never suffered from Jock Itch. At Zumwalt, I didn't have a clue what they were for so I put it on and used it as a flag poll to carry during band practice. Shoot Ronney, I could have used the Valium. Sarah and I went back to University Park at 4:00 yesterday to babysit Casey and Kathryn until 8:30. We went to sleep last night at 11:00 or was it 10:00? Alarm went off at 5:30 or was it 4:30? I'll be glad when this time change is over. I was late for work today, so I'm leaving early to make up for it.
Comments: SNL, I'd say the anniversary of this website...seems about right.
Comments: I tried to keep it at 10 but by doing so I realized I left out "cruisin' Kiest Park on Sundays". That was a big part of my life! I also left off Fri morning SOC Hops both at Zumwalt & SOC. One of my very best favorites!!! So go ahead, don't contain yourself to 10 .. . let it rip!!!! This master list ought to bring us plenty of memories & fun at the June get-together!!! So post your list & I can cut n paste it into Word for translation. Hey, look at the EVENTS pg. Do you know the answer???? ![]()
Comments: SNL, sorry that I haven't taken the time to compile a top ten list of the good ole days. I've just been too busy and, hence, a little brain dead. I really did enjoy reading yours and Ms. SandyMC's list and I hope others will do the same as it is fun to remember. JD, I was gonna vote for Sam Moon's Imports as the store to spend in and therefore save but I guess that really isn't an American company. I guess you will be wanting to keep the Tinactin company in business because of your "condition". ![]() |
