Comments: Some of us who went to TL Marsalis attended Clara Oliver also--but moved to TL when it opened in 56?. I had Mrs, Wilkerson for second grade. She seated us up by whom SHE THOUGHT was smartest and she always grabbed my jaw and shook it. She was just mean! I have mainly blacked that year out! Who else was in that class with me? It was awful! Was happy to go to TL and have wonderful Miss Tucker in the third grade!
Comments: My son and my grandson came in from Calif and it was great! Sarah grad from HS last Sat. But the saga continues...Sarah had another bad pap smear and is refusing a frozen section because it hurt so bad the last time. John and a friend exchanged vehicles this weekend, unbenownced to me....and Chris overturned John's vehicle several times and totalled it.Fortunately he had only abrasions and minor injuries. He could have been killed. Then John's other car, had a water hose go bad and it had to be replaced. Then I am told the radiater has a leak in it.So , we are down two cars now.People, I need your prayers!! I hope I see you this weekend but we will see.Sorry!
Comments: E&E was the term we used in the military for "escape and evasion". In this case, of E&E from the designated driver of the car pool. First, I had to identify the vehicle that was to transport the band of school kids, then pick a route around the vehicle, proceed along Idaho Ave, transition to Maryland Ave and keep from being observed/detected by paternal forces. However, once I had successfully E&E'd my way home, I was apprehended by superior forces, detained, and admonished not to be a repeat offender. The only greater one day accomplishment was when I self promoted myself from kindergarten to the first grade at Ms Ledbeter's School. One day I just pushed my desk into the first grade room and when challenged, I told them it was OK. I was subsequently promoted to the second grade at the end of the year. When discovered, by superior forces at the end of the school year, I was placed back into the first Grade at Lisbon. PS. Linda P. it is Boude Storey, Story with an "E".
Comments: JD, glad you made it in safe and sound. Wish I could join you and others for Tex-Mex tonight but it would be too late after I get off work tonight. I hear tequila is good for a cold so have a margarita while you are there tonight. Tequila is also good for a free ride to jail if you over-imbibe, so don't exceed the recommended dose.
Comments: Happy Jack, Dandy Don. Captain Capps and I loaded our teams for Friday's Da Bear Golf Game. team 1-Logan,Snowden,Towmsend team 2-McGee,Garoutte,Fugate,Gray team 3-Jonas,Medlin,Capps team 4-Browning,Hughes,Dagley,Smiley team 5-Round,Adamcik,Bolton Tee times start a 9:18, longest drive on 1st par 5, closest to the hole on 1st par 3. We'll have a putting contest at a buck a putt to start, for those interested. Botox shot par on the back nine yesterday, and Cold Cash Dagley has become a sneaky par player (when he hits to the right green). As usual the rest of us lied, used a foot wedge, and picked on each other. Life is good.
Comments: Naldo is Ron Barker. JD: I'd use Dayquill and Nightquill.
Comments: Jack, don't remember a yardstick. If I remember right (fat chance) she was very nice. I think I recall that there was a fire and a first grade girl lost both of her parents and Mrs. Black adopted the little girl. If she did have a club, I'm pretty sure I never got a lick amiss. DWS
Comments: I'm just guessing that "E7E' is service talk for escape and elude. Linda, Boude Storey was that "other" school.
Comments: FYI: E&E= Escape and Evade Betty, so good to see you joining in. Such good memories of Miss Stanley's first grade class. Were you in her 2nd grade class too? I don't know what happened to her over the summer, but she was a different person (grouchy) that next year. Dale. was it Miss Black that carried a yard stick all the time? Were you the reason? Clare Oliver's gain was Lisbon's loss. Sorry y'all didn't get to be Lancaster Avenue Scholars!
Comments: Who is Naldo, Boude Story and what is E&E (for those of us who do not text)? JD -- For a summer cold, get Coricidin, Comtrex, etc., lots of kleenexes. You'll probably be over it by Saturday. Do you still have relatives to visit in the area?
Comments: Ron (I mean Naldo) didn't realize you also went to Lisbon. Seems like many people started at Lisbon & then moved over when C.O. was built. It's a good thing C.O. was built, you're right, Lisbon was very crowed to begin with, but got better after all of the over flow left! Aaah, the playground at Lisbon . . . loved it!!!! OVA = Orange, VA
Comments: I may have missed it.... but who is Naldo and where is OVA. Also how does one "E&E"? Thanks, DWS
Comments: Betty, its so nice to know that you taught a self-contained behavior disorder class for 11 years and now you're a learning disabillities teacher. We can sure use your talents on this GB!!
Comments: Well, I woke up in Dallas this morning and appear to have survived my first night without being stabbed or shot to death...so I assume I'll be there on Sat the 13th. Looking good for Tex-Mex tonight at El Fenix-Downtown...looks like as many as 40 are going to show up and taste the wonderful food that I really have a hard time getting in the FROZEN TUNDRA. But then again you can't have it all when you've got the GREEN BAY PACKERS...owned by the people of GREEN BAY and the state...my grandson even has a stake with 25 shares...and although I'm sure Jacob has no idea what that means at 3, but some day he will... And in defense of Professor and now The Pastor Smiley...I'm not sure I ever saw him in the Principals Office and am offended that anyone would think such...cause I was there from the first day of Jr. High until graduation from SOC...actually the day before !!! And Ms McM...if you have Sarah's phone number I'll call and see if she will join us for dinner tonight...a date for sure... But then again...given my first list of women from Holmes...Robertson would be my first choice, but all others are a very very close second...do we know where she is?BTW...I left 58 degrees and the fact that weathermen are saying my wonderful state may never have a Summer this year...to discover, again, the warmth of this wonderful state with 92 degrees. Now I have a summer cold...any ideas on what I should...can buy OTC and control this runny nose? Please help...I need drugs...
Comments: I remember the days at Lisbon too. I mainly remember the old, monolithic structure, gloomy halls, and over crowded lunchroom. Then I became a "plank holder" @ Clara B. Oliver the second semester of the first grade. I believe we carpooled with Robert Dobbs, who lived down the block from me on Maryland a block or so from Boude Storey. He had an American Flyer train set setup in the attic of their garage. Its where I first saw American Bandstand, since we didn't get a TV until I was in the fifth grade. We carpooled to and fro school. I got in trouble one afternoon when I decided to avoid capture by the carpool and E&E'd the six blocks home. ![]() |
