Comments: What a fantastic hike! Tent Rocks is like nothing compared to your trip. I would have been totally wiped out also!
Comments: Kathy, my hiking days ended in May 1995 when my classmate Charlie Howarth talked me into hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon to celebrate our turning 50. We took a steep 7 mile trail down to the Colorado River. Even going downhill, it nearly did me in. The next day we took a 9 mile trail up out of the canyon. It took me 13 hours and the steepest part was the last two miles. My legs were like spaghetti at the end of the day. Most of the dialog went like this every 15 minutes: JS: Are we there yet? Charlie: No. JS: Are we half way there? Charlie: Shut up! Here's a pic of me on the South Rim at sunrise; before desperatation and panic set in: http://people.consolidated.net/swsw/gc_sunrise.jpg
Comments: John, That's what the problem is. I think I'm still 40ish!!!! If you ever make it to Tent Rocks, at least attempt the hike to the summit. It gives you a 360 view and is absolutely beautiful.
Comments: Well, we're waiting for a report from some of you fashionistas about the new movie Bruno that hit the big screen yesterday. I hear it's rated "F" for Fabulous. Bruno claims he will soon be as well known as our American astronaut hero, Louis Armstrong.
Comments: Just found out that I am being blessed with another Grandchild. Heather is only 6 to 7 weeks along. At this point thats all we know.Due probably last week of Feb.As time goes on I will let you know the particulars.Bye for now!
Comments: We're back!!!!! The trip to Kerrville and Port Aransas was great and we really had a good time with the Grandkids, but we really did miss having the 4th with you guys. I have come to look forward to that and really don't like to miss it.....but glad to hear that all of you had a good time.I will talk to to ya'll later.
Comments: WOW, Tent Rocks are very unusual looking. Don & I have hiked hundreds of trails in and around Sedona, AZ but not in NM. We think Sedona is the prettiest place we've ever seen! You can feel Gods presence there & it is awe inspiring! I wonder how those unusually & consistent formations were formed? TNX JS, loved looking at the pics. Well, it was nice basking in the glory of JS thinking I was informative, but then Ronney had to burst the bubble! Oh well, back to obscurity. On a lighter note, I have s/w Bobby Jones & we're gng to meet for lunch & he will give me the memorabilia. Nice guy, I'll ask about his sis when I see him. Gotta run . . . work is keeping me very busy . . . later!
Comments: Kathy, I'd never heard of the "Tent Rocks" area, but WOW! is it scenic. Slot canyons and unique rock formations abound. Looks like a fairly hearty hike for those of us over 60. Here is a little tour for the benefit of those who prefer "virtual" hiking: http://www.explorenm.com/hikes/TentRocks/ [sidebar: Memo to Self - Send note of apology to Ronnie McKee for giving credit to SNL for the Joetta info supplied by McK.]
Comments: Hey John, I was visiting my son and his family (3 grandone's) in Rio Rancho, NM, just NW of ABQ. Did a little side trip with the boys and hiked to the top of the "Tent Rocks" national monument. Such beautiful country!
Comments: Well, hello, Rod ol' buddy! I don't know that I have ever seen the GB this dead. You might be right. I heard on TV tonight that Michael Jackson wore hair pieces and wigs because he had a big bald spot from the Pepsi advertisement accident. I am trying to imagine him bald. haha! No matter what we think of MJ's strange lifestyle and the accusations, he did write and perform some really good music. "The Man in the Mirror" is my favorite. Too bad his life was so sad and insecure. How's things in Oregon?
Comments: Still in mournig for Michael ?
Comments: Sure is dead in the GB today!
Comments: Thanks, Pool Guy, but I'm not ready yet. One lesson and two trips to the range and I'm sore in places that I didn't expect. Only club used so far is the 7 iron. I've killed a lot of grass and moved a lot more dirt. What are those tees made of, glass?? At this rate I had better start buying them by the mega-gross. Hadn't heard from you and thought you might be on your annual vacation/golf course tour.
Comments: Pistol Pete (Steve) Gray and I are playing golf next Thursday. Course and time to be determined.Anyone with a few bucks to lose, a few lbs. to lose (it's hot) is welcome to join. Bay Watch Capps is out of town, which means we all have a chance to win. Happy Jack have you broken in those new golf clubs? We would love to have you join us.
Comments: OK, Southworth!!!! I am the one who told you about Joetta Jones, not SNL. And, the last time I looked in the mirror...I didn't look a thing like SNL. She's much bigger than I. (Uh-oh! I am dead meat now!!!! ONLY KIDDING, SANDY! DON'T HIT ME TOO HARD and PLEEEEZZZEEE DON'T SEND REYNOLDLS-WRAP OVER TO BEAT THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS OUT OF ME!!!! Ahhh. Wait, that might be fun. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHH, now I am in DOUBLT TROUBLE.) |
