Place: The Woodlands, TX Comments: The Randle Lions of Richmond are indeed a remarkable team. The high school only opened in August of 2021. The school is named for Dr. Thomas Randle who was a Fort Bend County Supervisor for some 20 years. His son, Brian Randle, was chosen as the very first football coach when the school opened. In a mere three years he built this championship team. SOC was trailing most of the game. Even suffered the humiliation of having the opening kickoff returned for a TD (never a good sign). In the 3rd quarter SOC briefly took the lead but from then on it was all Randle. Still, after all these years I feel proud the Bears made it to the finals in a division that started with 170 contending schools.
Place: Richarson Comments: Darn it, we lost by 3 pts. That last few second wide left field goal that would have put the game into overtime, missed by a mile. But they put up a good fight. So proud of our SOC Bears!
Place: Uvalde Comments: SOC lost a heartbreaker when last second field goal attempt was short and wide. 38-35.
Place: Uvalde TX Comments: SOC plays for the State Championship tonight in Arlington Texas at AT&T Stadium. The game will be broadcast on various cable television channels.
Place: Richardson Comments: It's with a sad heart that I must let you know our friend and classmate, Danny Fugate, passed away on Dec. 10. He and his wife lived in Midlothian, TX . Unfortunately, I have no further info to share at this time. He was one of the founding members of the Mystics. RIP Danny and tell David I sure miss him. Glenn Struble is the last remaining original Mystic still with us. He was from the class of '67.
Place: Richardson Comments: It seems like everyone certainly had a good time at the Girl's Christmas Luncheon Saturday. Shortcake is right, the food was so good and the desserts were irresistible. I ate so many of those candies and the pie and cookies I had a sugar high the rest of the afternoon and night!
13 of us attended and wow, after more than 50 years (no need to be exact ) after graduation, we're still gathering and still having fun. Thank you everyone for the food and the gifts and to Barbara for inviting us to her home!! Already looking forward to the Spring Mini. ![]()
Place: McKinney Comments: We had our annual Christmas luncheon for the SOC66 ladies at Barbara Fugate’s home. The house looked beautiful With all the Christmas decorations. Barbara made enchiladas and everyone else brought sides. The food was great, especially the desserts, which SNL can attest to. Pretty sure she left with six containers! The guys that were there left and went to Hooters for lunch! There was definitely a lot of talking, laughter eating. Thanks to all the ladies that brought gifts for everyone. I am sitting here looking at candy and wondering if I can eat it for breakfast! Thanks again Barbara and Sandy. You did a great job. See you at the next mini!
Place: Richardson Comments: Rusty, Good memory!! Nice to hear from you!
Place: Mancos, colorado Comments: Charles Moss' wisdom is legendary...but, in the late sixties, we refered to it as something else.
Place: Richardson Comments: Today is Saturday, last day of November. Tomorrow is December 1st. Anyone else think time is flying past them!? Hope everyone is having or had a great Thanksgiving. One week from today is our traditional Girl's Christmas Luncheon. We have 15 signed up to attend. Going to be a loud & fun time for all of us. Happy December and may we all enjoy the reason for the season and have a safe and good December with a celebration of Christmas.
Place: Richardson Comments: Tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day. We, like most of you, have aches & pains and some problems, but we should be thankful each day we get up and have another day here. To quote my good friend Charles Moss, " If I can get up in the morning and my feet touch the floor, it's a great day. I'm still alive!" Please keep our friends who aren't doing as well and suffering with great difficulties in your prayers. Jeanne Smith starts chemo today for ovarian cancer! Jimmy Hodnett suffers from Parkinson's and not doing well at all! Ada Ann is still recovering from major surgery to replace a heart valve! God Bless all our SOC Friends who aren't doing well. Enjoy whomever you may share Thanksgiving with, and remember to be thankful. Love, Sandy
Place: Regarding Update on Jeanne Smith Comments: Thanks Donnie, I was thinking of her and wandering what the result from last week were. Bless her heart, with Bill gone and now this, she needs our prayers more than ever.
Place: Update on Jeanne Smith. Comments: Barb talked to Jeannie Smith today and she went to Southwestern to see the Dr last week. They did a biopsy and she will get the results sometime this week. She is going to have her first chemo treatment the Wednesday before Thanksgiving! She sounded in good spirits! Keep the prayers going for her.
Place: Richardson Comments: I didn't see that story in the paper but was instrumental in getting the ring back to Roy. Perry's son & his girlfriend were internet savvy. Once they saw the 3 initials and the school name on the ring they went online and found our class website. She contacted me via email and told me the info. It took only a minute to pull out the list and see only one person had those initials. I told her I would contact Roy and ask for a name and number he could contact. At our 50th, a short few days later, I told the story and we all marveled at how 50 years later for our 50th reunion Roy's ring was reunited with him. I just loved how nice and caring Perry and his son & his son's girlfriend were in wanting to get the ring back to it's owner. Thanks for sharing the article John, it was fun reading the events and remembering the story again.
Place: The Woodlands, TX Comments: I may be repeating old news with this ... but today I came across a fascinating "metal detecting" treasure hunt which was written up in the September 22, 2016 issue of The Dallas Morning News. I haven't met Roy yet but I do recall his older brother Frank from the Class of 1961. Frank passed away in September, 2022. For those of you who missed it, here is the remarkable tale: https://www.dallasnews.com/news/2016/09/22/south-oak-cliff-grad-reunited-with-class-ring-50-years-after-it-was-lost-in-a-snowball-fight/ |
