Thanks all for the sweet birthday wishes here on the GB and the many on Facebook as well. I haven't retired just yet but it is only days away! Last day to work is Sunday, Aug. 1st and then I will finally have weekends off for the first time in years. Hallelujah! And as soon as I retire, I promise to finally actually put something on my Facebook page and get caught up with responses, etc. I will work part time next year but I am taking the rest of this year OFF.

Both Mike and I have to work today but he did have flowers, card, coffee and biscotti waiting for me when I got up and we are going out tomorrow night and then another celebration with my daughter (whose birthday is today also) and her family on Saturday night. I sound like Shortcake who celebrates her birthday for a long time after the actual day.

It's so good to hear that Mike Dunn and Don L's brother Doug are progressing and improving. Hope both will continue on this path.

Don, I just don't think calling in dead will work, most bosses are too smart for that, unless she has a Government job send out welfare checks. Those guys are sending a lot of money to dead people and don't know it.

Good Afternoon - just a friendly reminder that we really would like to see as many of you as possible at the 45th Class Reunion for the class of 1965.  You were an important part of our history at SOC and it would be great to celebrate with you.

Sandy has posted the notice on your Event page so please mail in your reservation soon.  We are only 7 weeks away from an memorable celebration and you will be missed if you are not there.

I know some of your classmates are coming - please join them.

Thanks so much,
Cynthia

OK - Here's the latest in the unsolved mystery of Jack "Jackie" Thomas Jr. from SOC.  I have confirmed he was born in 49.  Also that his dad, Jack Thomas Sr. owned the Feed Store & Jackie was the mgr.  Perhaps those who thought he was much older saw the dad at the store.  Also he may have not actually walked across the stage with his class as he joined the Army & may have left early as some of our guys did.  I'm again going to put a note on 67 & 68 GBs asking them to please ask around & see if someone remembers Jackie.  I feel very certain he would have been the the 67 or 68 class!  I'll let ya'll know when I get a definitive answer.

I buy bird seed at that feed store in Duncanville. It is on main street. I know the man but didn't know his name or that he was a SOCite. He was much older than us so he was probably in the early days of SOC maybe the late 50's or early 60,s. When was he in Viet Nam?

Don great to hear bro Doug is getting a much deserved vacation!  Also great to hear he's holding his own an doing a bit better!!

Regarding Jack Marvin Thomas Jr. -  I put notes on all SOC GBs from 62 thru 68.  No hits at all.  I believe the funeral home obit had the wrong year for his B-day!!  I heard from the class of 68 & he's definitely not from 68.   Also Tommy Barr had met him in person as he frequented the Feed Store Jack owned.  Tommy said Jack was definitely older than 60 something, probably 70 something.  Must be from the 50s classes.  I'm gonna put a note on the 50s GB & see if I get a hit from them as all the 60s classes don't know him.   I'll let you know when I find out.

Here's the obit on Jack Thomas, but I don't recall the name: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/dallasmorningnews/obituary.aspx?n=jack-thomas&pid=144193717&fhid=2581

I'll ask my brother Doug if he remembers, since he was SOC '68.

BTW - Doug's on a long-awaited vacation w/family in CA.  Still weighs in the 140's, but he's getting around better & appetite is picking up.

Sure John -- Dru makes you watch the Bachelorette.  Rudy watches it too, and enjoys it as much as I do.  Last night, he called the "snake" Frank a jerk.

Congrats to Dale and Yvonne on becoming grandparents again.  babies are such fun.
