Comments: Oh my Shortcake . . . you mean I knew something before you did!!!
Comments: Happy Jack - Sheila knows that I was talking about the baby not taking after you ....and everyone in the Fire Dept. knows about the baby ....and knew about it before me...they found out while I was in Colorado.....I was the last to know this time
Comments: Well I never considered myself as having an accent but when I was in Vancouver Washington last week, Marilyn and I were in an elevator and a man got on and all we said was "hi, how are you" and he said "are you from Texas". Then he said he was raised in Waco and his parents still live there.
Comments: Rod -- now those are my kind of cowboys!! They are just too cute.
Comments: Yeah Shortcake, I think I'd hold of getting my hair cut any time soon if I was you!!!
Comments: Well, Shortcake, so much for keeping it quiet. Guess I need to explain to James that some people don't know what a secret is. By the way, I'll be sure and tell Sheila what you said. Hope she will remember it next time she does your hair!!
Comments: Man, the heat is relentless here in the DFW area! 105 yesterday & forecasting 106 tda! Looking forward to Labor Day as it always cools down a bit then. Rod, those two boys are so cute! I love photos taken in those old time settings!! Ya'll have a good wk & stay cool, I'll see many of you Saturday at Vernon's!!! Ck the Events pg for the info!
Comments: Rod, your two little "pardners" are soooo cute! And the youngest looks like he really knows how to handle a gun. ![]() How's it going up North? Probably much cooler than here.
Comments: Congratulations Happy Jack - understand you are going to be an uncle again!!!!! Just hope this darling child looks and takes after James!
Comments: Put up some new Grandones & they're pretty tough looking! Take a peek at the Pride & Joy pg!! Well Jack, Toni has your number & I got your point! Now you're really screwed!!! ![]()
Comments: JD, you better think twice about that one big pocket. You might need it to carry all the compliments or loose skin. Congrats!I like him too Susan. I totally don't understand about Jack's number ![]()
Comments: Jack, Jack, Jack! It's Selleck, with two l's. This man is so gorgeous, he must be from another planet! We can at least spell his name right!!!
Comments: SNL, you missed the point, again! We are not saying we don't have a drawl. You can even hear some California in Richard's voice now. Just that it is ALWAYS over done. VERY seldom do you hear movies or TV with a Boston, New York, New England or Minn accent. (not counting Fargo) And they certainly have them too. That new TV cop/corner show based in Boston doesn't have accents. I'll bet Tom Selecks' new cop New York show won't either, But Memphis Blues sure does. At one time all the reservation centers in the US were located in Omaha. While doing some work up there I asked why. The two reasons given were the abundance of telephone lines, due to NORAD being HQ'd there and that the locals were the only place in the US with no detectable accent. Toni is Bruce's accent NV or AK??
Comments: I hate to tell ya'll this, but others, especially those in the North & Northeast, hear us differently!! I've worked for 2 collection agencies during the last 24 & a half yrs. Both had HQ in Buffalo, NY. Until I went to work for the 1st Co I'd never been past St. Louis , MO. I spent a wk in Buffalo meeting everyone & getting some training. All they could talk about was my Southern Accent!! I never thought I had an accent until I went up there! One day when I came back from lunch early, one of the reps (who had her back to me) was standing at her desk in front of a bunch of people imitating me!! I'll never forget what she said in an overdone Southern drawl . . . "Oh my, everything in Texas must be broke, cuz we Texans are always fixin' something". Yep, they never heard anyone saying they were fixin' to go somewhere, or fixin' to do something!! No, I don't think we sound like the girl in the commercial, but if they didn't exaggerate it, it wouldn't be as funny! You gotta love the dog Troy Barkman!!! ![]()
Comments: Jack -- thank you; I don't think that we sound like that either. I know which commercial you are talking about. Maybe if the casting agencies actually put a REAL Texan in those commercials/movies, we wouldn't be so incensed. You can find a hick in any state. Look at Brad Pitt in "Inglorious Basterds." Luckily he wasn't from Texas (in the movie). I just had to drag my dogs outside (to go to the bathroom); they like laying under the fan and being in the cool house, too. Now, I'm getting ready to go tax free shop a little. |
