I do not post as often as I used to here, but I do check the Guest Book most every week. My condolences to all the recent  passings of our fellow classmates.  Unfortunatley we are all getting older and that is going to continue.

Congrats to the SOC football team on thier state championship.

Finally and most important, a Happy Birthday to my twin, Sandy on our big day.  May we hve many more.   A sincere thank you for all that you have done over the years to provide a place where the Class of '66 can keep up with each other .  I know I am not alone in appreciating the work that you do.

Less than a week ago we posted about the passing of Jeannette Stokey Strickling.  Today, I must post another sad announcement. I found out tonight that Fred Hulan Meier III has passed away.  I received a Christmas card from Patty, his wife, letting me know he had passed away from colon cancer, which he had been battling for a number of years.

Last time I saw them was at the 50th.  Patty included the program from his services and he passed on March 26, 2021.  He was buried at the DFW National Cemetery. He was in the army during Vietnam and retired from IBM after 39 yrs with them.  Fred & Patty were such a nice couple and I'm very sad to learn of his passing but, grateful to Patty for letting me know.  RIP Fred.

Even though I made NO contribution to this epic win, I could not be more proud. What a great reminder for us 66ers of the great place we came from. My heart is still sitting on top of the trophy case. β€οΈπŸ«€πŸ†

Richard Carter just posted on FB that the Reunion Area tower is all lit up in GOLD with "SOC" proudly displayed.  Wow, maybe it will be shown on 10pm news.

Paul, glad to see you keeping up with the SOC boys and feeling proud. All of us down here in TX are too.  I know you aren't on FB but, it's been all about SOC since last week and since the big state win that's all you see on FB. It's the talk of the town and on all the news stations.  Everyone is happy for those hard working guys that not only play great football, but make good grades as well.  Their coach shared a tidbit the day before the game.  He told the reporter that the team has a cumulative 3.8 GPA and several on the team have a 4.0 GPA.  Impressive.  Glad to hear you got to see it and all SOC Alum are basking in the joy of the big win!

And as the report you posted said, 3 of the guys got schorlarship offers from the 3 colleges around here, SMU, TCU and UNT.  Congratulations SOC Bears!

South Oak Cliff made history Saturday, when the Golden Bears beat Liberty Hill 23-14 in the Class 5A Division II title to secure Dallas Independent School District's first recognized state championship since 1958. The win marked a monumental moment for inner-city football in the state of Texas. South Oak Cliff not only boasts a talent-laden roster, but one of the state's top coaching staffs, which guided SOC to wins against perennial powers, such as Aledo, and varying offensive schemes -- from the spread to the wing-T to the slot-T -- in its six-game postseason run to the crown.

SMU-bound quarterback Kevin Henry-Jennings completed 12 of 23 passes for 144 yards and two touchdowns and ran four times for 12 yards. He missed on a few throws, but hit big on a few others and played better than his stat line suggests in an intensely high-pressure situation. He and his SOC teammates became instant Dallas legends. Arguably the team's most talented unit -- the secondary, which features a handful of Power Five prospects -- showed they were not just cover men as TCU signee Kyron Chambers, 2023 four-star Malik Muhammad, 2023 four-star Jayvon Thomas, and 2023 three-star Abdul Muhammad combined for 35 tackles against Liberty Hill's famously confusing slot-T attack.

Funny they didn’t mention the positive impact made by the Class of 66.

From the internet:  The most iconic moment of the week was without a doubt Dallas South Oak Cliff's historic Class 5A Division II title victory vs. Liberty Hill (more on that below). That game featured the 10th-largest crowd in TXHSFB history, per Stepp, with an attendance of 45,769.

Saw the game. Excellent. Would have been nice to hear the band come on to the field to the sounds of β€œSix Flags Over Texas.” 😁
