South Oak Cliff made history Saturday, when the Golden Bears beat Liberty Hill 23-14 in the Class 5A Division II title to secure Dallas Independent School District's first recognized state championship since 1958. The win marked a monumental moment for inner-city football in the state of Texas. South Oak Cliff not only boasts a talent-laden roster, but one of the state's top coaching staffs, which guided SOC to wins against perennial powers, such as Aledo, and varying offensive schemes -- from the spread to the wing-T to the slot-T -- in its six-game postseason run to the crown.

SMU-bound quarterback Kevin Henry-Jennings completed 12 of 23 passes for 144 yards and two touchdowns and ran four times for 12 yards. He missed on a few throws, but hit big on a few others and played better than his stat line suggests in an intensely high-pressure situation. He and his SOC teammates became instant Dallas legends.
